Sustainability & Healthy Living The health-giving qualities of Bournemouth are claimed to be considerable, and its motto is aptly chosen – Pulchritudo et salubritas, “Beauty and Health”. BH Live is offering a range of health, fitness and wellbeing activities to delegates to enhance their experience in Bournemouth. We understand how important it is for delegates to have a rewarding, enjoyable and memorable conference experience both personally and professionally. Travelling, learning, networking and knowledge gathering in a new environment can take its toll on our levels of energy and enthusiasm. With this in mind, BH Live has prepared a choice of mind and body re-energising activities to enhance the conference experience. For example: Tai Chi on the Beach, Nordic Walking on the Beach, Wake Up/Wind Down Seafront Walks. BH Live has also recently opened a new leisure attraction called ALTITUDE High Ropes Adventure at Littledown Park. Bournemouth has a long-term sustainable vision with the local partnership, ‘Bournemouth 2026’, uniting various stakeholders with a shared goal of developing the town’s long-term sustainability and viability.

Green Tourism Business Scheme:

Bournemouth currently has nine accredited members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme, including the council and tourist offices. The Green Tourism Business Scheme is a national certification scheme for sustainable tourism operators within the UK. Businesses joining the scheme are assessed on a number of environmental and social criteria and then awarded the relevant award – ‘Going Green’, Bronze, Silver or Gold.

Fairtrade:

Bournemouth town is currently seeking to achieve certification as a Fairtrade town, working closely with local businesses, schools, community groups and not for profit organisations. In February 2008, Bournemouth Borough Council became the first local authority in the UK to endorse the Earth Charter, demonstrating the town’s commitment to sustainability and ecological integrity.

Green Flags:

The prestigious Green Flag Award is honoured to parks and green spaces which have achieved eight key criteria, including: healthy, safe and secure, conservation, sustainability and management. Bournemouth boasts a total of 13 Green Flag awards, including the centrally located lower, upper and central gardens, offering visitors a unique slice of tranquillity.

Blue Flags:

Bournemouth is the proud home to over eight miles of award-winning sandy beaches, which have consistently retained the International Blue Flag award, signalling beaches of the highest standards in terms of water quality, safety and facilities.

Travelling In Bournemouth:

Travelling around town could not be easier with many of the local attractions, hotels, venues and beaches situated within walking distance of each other. Bournemouth has great transport links, with two local bus companies serving much of Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and beyond. Cycling is a great way to get around, with two National Cycle Network routes running through the area, along with a number of on and off road cycle routes around the town and surrounding areas.
