About me When I first heard the word “architect” I was in elementary school. I was impressed by the word before actually know what it means. From that moment on, all I could imagine was to be one. Now, I am a passionate young interior architect, graduated from İstanbul Bilgi University. I am always interested in learning and searching new architectural application techniques, materials. Aside from my work I am especially interested in graphic design, I always try to compound them and use as an expression of myself. I get excited by making presentation of a design as well as designing it.

BARN.arch I Snowflake Tensegrity

dec 2017

It is planned to design and produce a case for BARN.arch Snowflake which is an example of tensegrity structures. Tensegrity; tensianal integrity is a design principal that applies when a discontinuous set of compression elements is oppesed and balanced by a continuous tensile force, thereby creating an internal prestress that stabilizes the entire structure. The Snowflake case is a self-stabilized box like tensegrity structures made from kraft cardboard.

Final Product

Geometric Development and Design Process The first object of the design according to the geometry of the tensegrity structure was to create a self-supporting and easily manufactured case/box. A system that was composed by vertical elements that hold the case together and the horizontal side modules.

Odakule Passage National Design Competition jan 2019 The subject of the “Istanbul Chamber of Industry Odakule Passage National Design Competition” is the reorganization of the passage connecting the Istanbul Chamber of Industry Odakule Building to the Constitutional Monarchy and Istiklal Streets in line with contemporary urban living conditions, allowing new ideas and industry to meet art and design. Group members: Gizem Yönet, Lara Baran, Serra Uludağ

İstiklal Street

İstiklal Street view from the passage

Meşrutiyet Street

The İstiklal facade, which has become the meeting point for many, sometimes a waiting area, often accommodates the crowds. But the passage itself is in a steady stream, everyone passes quickly. Thus, an accumulating and flowing model emerges. The aim of the project is to make this experience felt by people by emphasizing spatiality and spatiality.

Fluidity and Sound in Passage

Su duvarı çıkışı (akış borusu)

Doğrama

In this project, it was aimed to draw attention to both the fluidity and sound of the water by using it as a vertical water wall. The watch, which is positioned inside the water wall, is positioned to draw attention to the time in which we are all racing and consuming while living. The human flow in the passage is thus redesigned through water and time.

start-up hotel 05

Odakule Gate Start-up Hotel spring 2017 In this project we are focusing on the question of how a hotel would become a place for public attraction while being a retreat for its own guests at the same time. Here, the hotel is more than an establishment for lodging, eating and drinking; it creates spaces of interaction while providing facilities for specific groups of people. Then, sociability, conviviality and amenability become design considerations which also create competitive advantage in terms of the hospitality industry.

Odakule Gate is a complex that harbours a hotel, a start-up workspace, a daily co-working area and restaurants. The most distinguishing feature of the Gate is passage between Istiklal and Meşrutiyet streets. The aim of this design is to integrate the users with the building and create a new walkway between Istanbul’s most crowded streets. Because of that concern, the passage level pull down to -2.10m and the circulation re-organized to create a better communal area and a refreshing walkway. To bring all kind of people together and create a interdiciplinary space with this design, Gate has different kind of workspaces and event halls for every profession.

Istanbul Coffee Museum

fall 2016

It is planned to adapt the old wool yarn factory in Haskรถy, in Istanbul into a place for meeting and socializing around the activities associated with coffee. We are asked to design the public interiors of this museum comprising 1000m2 of the total usable space. The spaces worked in detail are permanent exhibition gallery, museum cafe, museum shop, entrance/reseption hall and restrooms.

Project Model Medium: cardboard, forex

Dayligth

It is aimed to be a campus where cultural activities come together because there are universities and other exhibition spaces in the area. While creating the contents of the museum, it is desirable to display all the stages of the coffee bean in the form of beverage in order. The stages of making coffee beverage divided into floors and open galeries and created fluid spaces in order to better illustrate the whole process.

cable car 07

Maçka-Taşkışla Cable Car fall 2016 In this project, we are expected to design a new cable car cabin for the line connecting two ends of the valley in Maçka Park in Istanbul. It is a public transport route which provides an aerial view of the park and the Bosphorus and the cable car becomes a comfortable alternative to the steep walkway through the park.

Final Model Medium: forex, cardboard, sprey paint and balsa wood

Conceptual Model Medium: styrofoam ball, cardboard

It is made up of two main shells which are in line with the cable car system between Maçka and Taşkışla which are crossed with each other in order to observe the environment in two directions. These shells are designed in such a way that the form envelops the person behind and directs to concentrate to the journey. Instead of abstracting the cable car cabin from the park, cortex metal is used on the exterior surface so that it can be transformed into a park object to be sight. In the interior, bamboo wooden seating elements are placed to catch a warm atmosphere.

LAPS spring 2016 LAPS is a storage and separator which is designed to be used from both sides. Besides these functions, shelves and drawers are designed in different measurements to help the user reorganize. Also an L shaped board is inserted for public use. In this project we worked in groups of 4 people. Group members: Gizem Yönet, Lara Baran, Serra Uludağ Project video: www.youtube.com - LAPS LAPS the ARMCHAIR by Ece Erdoğdu The aim of this design is to preserve the storage function and details of LAPS and turn it in to a seating unit.

Final work Istanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Architecture Lobby

Front Perspective

At the beginning of the design process, our first aim was to create a structure which did not block the view. A system that was composed by vertical elements that hold the structure and horizontal elements that hold the function. We started by the idea of an info desk than it evolved to a seperator and storage system. Top View

5. Arranging of the demounted pieces for better portability

6. Cutting of shelves and drawers From 250x125cm plywood plates

7. Joining the drawer pieces with glue

8. Polishing the wooden pieces

While creating this system we wanted to keep the public use idea and kept a board for posters and banners to be hanged. To support the idea of being public, the design also aimed to be used from both sides. Therefore the shelves and drawers are mobile and sliding through the metal structure. These design criterias led us to plywood and metal.

Temporary Living Unit fall 2014 Millions of people in the world have been displaced from their homes by force for various reasons, like natural disasters, civil wars or on-going conflicts. We are asked to design a temporary settlement for living in order to help these displaced people take refuge and recover in a more humane environment with better physical conditoions.

Conceptual Drawings

Temporary living unit created to provide the needs of the reasons that emerged after the war. The results of the war; the contaminated water sources, habitat destruction, electrical and power failure, shortage of supplies. The temporary living unit will be installed on sloping land on the stream edge because of its benefits. The benefits of the sloping land are the efficient use of sunlight, sense of security resulting from the height, private life caused by the difference in elevation and energy can be obtained from the stream. The benefits of the stream are clean water for use and consume, use in transportation, hunting and food supply and obtained energy from the stream.

Moodboards, Layouting and Photo-collages I noticed my interest in graphic design while I was preparing my presentations of my designs during school. Then I began to research about the subject and took some elective courses to improve my skills and learn more about it. Now I am using my interest to design moodboards about my projects and make some case studies for researchs. Also I started to design my friends resumes and bussiness cards.
