You will learn to direct your dog with both verbal and body language signals. You and your dog will begin to work as a team!!! If your heart is set on entering your first competition… you are almost there!!!! Entrance Requirements: Completed Foundations / Beginner Obedience, Intro to Equipment or an equivalent. Getting your dog to move out ahead and away from you will save you many steps. As our dogs become confident moving away from us their speed will increase, making distance work necessary in order for the handler to keep up. The games of Agility will be introduced and you will learn how to read a course map during these sessions. It is during the Novice Classes that you will begin to feel confident enough to enter a competition! SWIM LESSON INFORMATION
Because our courses are progressive, with each level building on the skills previously learned, the prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of the skills from the preceding level, with the exception of Beginner 1. To ensure participants are placed in the appropriate swim level, the first day of lessons is for skill level assessment. Participants will be expected to successfully demonstrate all of the completion requirements for the previous level before being able to continue on in the level they are enrolled in. Participants will be transferred up or down a level that is more appropriate and better suited to meet their skill level and needs if the prerequisite skills are not met the first day of class. Please try to place your child in the appropriate level! Lakes Area Recreation does keep track year to year – if you are unsure of your child’s placement, please call the LAR office and speak with the Aquatics Director.

A Note About Your Child’s Class Placement: Please understand that all children acquire skills at different rates. Age is often a convenient marker used to understand and measure motor skill development, however; an increase in age does not automatically result in improvement or acquisition of a skill. Differences in body size, knowledge, skills, learning styles, personalities, and experiences all affect individual skill development. It should be expected a child will repeat any given level several times before fully mastering all skills required at that level. Age prerequisites for PS1, PS2 and B1 are still in place and enforced.

YMCA Lakes Area Recreation Partnership For over three years the YMCA has had the good fortune to positively impact the lives of individuals and families through the breadth and scope of programs that focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. The needs of our community have changed, and the YMCA and Lakes Area Recreation have and will remain a central means to meeting them. We’ve always known that positive change only comes about when we invest in our kids, our health and our neighbors. The YMCA and Lakes Area Recreation are teaming up to offer comprehensive, progressive youth sports programming. The YMCA and Lakes Area Recreation are pleased to announce a program agreement. Our staff will jointly develop the progressive program curriculum and will work together to provide quality programs in the area of basketball, football and baseball in the community. In simplest terms, the YMCA will provide programming in baseball, football, and basketball in grades Pre-K through Kindergarten, and Lakes Area Recreation will focus on grades 1st through 3rd grades and beyond. The YMCA and Lakes Area Recreation are committed to jointly programming and executing quality program curriculum for each sports program. The YMCA and Lakes Area Recreation will collectively market these programs through print and online materials to share program opportunities for kids and families in our community. To register for YMCA programs, you will continue to register via the YMCA web-site or at the YMCA office, and for Lakes Area Recreation programs you will register via the Lakes Area Recreation web-site or in person at Lakes Area Recreation.
