The Lord’s Prayer (Traditional words to the Our Father)
Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

WE BELIEVE: • The Bible is God’s Word and it is the final authority for faith and life. God desires to have a personal relationship with every individual He has created. All people need to turn from sin and trust in God’s grace alone for salvation. Jesus Christ is true God and true man who gave His life on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. The Holy Spirit comforts and strengthens believers as they seek to grow in their faith and walk with God.

OUR CHURCH: • We are a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, which has identified six key principles that help guide us in our journey as a community. • We affirm these: the centrality of the word of God, the necessity of the new birth, a commitment to the whole mission of the church, the church as a fellowship of believers, a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit, and the reality of freedom in Christ. OUR MISSION: • Our mission is to be a caring family of believers in Jesus Christ, committed to the inspired Word of God, living out our faith by encouraging one another, caring for each other’s burdens and sharing the gospel with our community through witnessing in love and acts of kindness.

ilies worshiping, meeting and studying together. We believe that the church is a family of families, where the church family (composed of singles, grandparents and families) is supporting the nuclear family in their spiritual development. We do this by encouraging fathers to be the spiritual leaders (pastors) of their homes and mothers to nurture and nourish the next generation to walk with God for His glory. • We are also a church that is highly committed to the Great Commission, which commands us to make disciples of all peoples. To accomplish that task, we plan on engaging 100 percent of our members to the task of evangelism, which is the proclamation and spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ. • You will experience a worshipful blend of songs that makes Jesus the focus of our adoration during worship services. Our services are not the traditional liturgical type; rather, worshipers are encouraged to participate in singing easy-to-sing songs once they catch the melody. OUR MINISTRIES: • Some of Cornerstone’s ministries include Heartbeat Bible Studies and partner ministries with Trout Lake Camp and ZEMA (Zion Evangelical Ministries of Africa).

to the confessional standard of the Evangelical Lutheran Church.
OUR MINISTRIES: • Children’s and youth programs, Men’s Club, Women’s Circles, adult Bible study, Minnesota Missions. OUR HISTORY: • In 1874, a number of German Lutherans in Leaf Valley extended a call to Candidate August Hertwig at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He was installed on August 16, 1874, and in 1875, the congregation was formally organized as Ebenezer Evangelical Lutheran Church. • Despite all the changes through the years, however, the true purpose of our church has remained consistent. We have continued to strive to work toward God’s great plan of salvation for all men through faith in his Son, Jesus Christ. We pray that God’s grace will extend toward our church family for many years.

Several times a year, we have meals for anyone who is looking for good food and friendly people. • After church each Sunday, we have an informal coffee hour where we get to know each other better. OUR HISTORY: • Emmanuel Episcopal is one of the oldest churches in Alexandria. It was founded in the fall of 1859 by Bishop Henry Whipple. Like many frontier churches, services were held in homes. • The first church building was consecrated in 1875 at the corner of Fifth and Fillmore. The building was used until the current church building was constructed in 1966. We invite you to come and worship with us.

Not only do they provide donations and services, but they also develop relationships with those in need. • In addition, trained volunteers teach life skills classes such as boundaries, personal goal setting and money management. • Love INC’s “defining difference” is the opportunity to focus on the “whole” person and not just the need. This promotes alleviation of poverty and brokenness in our community and transforms lives in the name of Christ!

Firefighter’s Prayer
When I am called to duty, God wherever flames may rage, give me strength to save a life, whatever be its age. Help me to embrace a little child before it’s too late, or save an older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me, to guard my neighbor and protect his property. And if according to your will I have to lose my life, bless with your protecting hand my loving family from strife.

and Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.
OUR CHURCH: Redeemer Lutheran was organized by Pastor A.C. Seltz from Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria in 1948. The first services were held in the basement of the First National Bank. There were eight charter members. The Rev. Rodel Eberle was our first pastor. At the first voters meeting, the church was named Redeemer Lutheran Church and officers were elected. In 1949, a lot on the corner of Third Avenue West and Pike street in Osakis was purchased, a basement dug and blocks laid. The First Lutheran Church of Alexandria was then purchased and moved to the site. In 1950, our circuit bought some land on Battle Lake near Henning, and we had a church picnic with members from Immanuel Lutheran in Carlos and St. John’s Lutheran in Oak Hill (also being served by Pastor Eberle) on the land that today is Lutheran Island Camp. In 1961, ground was broken for a new church on the same site and the new church was dedicated on Dec. 10, 1961. We began to outgrow our church, so a building committee was formed to develop plans for an addition that included a kitchen, fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms. A ground breaking service was held on June 7, 1976. By June 5 of 1977 the addition was completed and a dedication service was held. The Redeemer Lutheran Church on Third Avenue West in Osakis today was complete. Redeemer is active in the community with our annual turkey dinner; fair booth activities, pie and cake days at the Galeon and jam/songfests led by our talented youth group.

EVENT SCHEDULE: • Annual traditional Easter and Christmas services and midsummer hymn fest. OUR CHURCH: • Spruce Hill Church is under the care of the Douglas County Historical Society. The historic church had its beginnings in 1876 on a split log table in the home of Anders Lustig, where a small group of Swedish settlers gathered to write the first documents of the Svenska Augustana Synod Forsamlingen.
80 The Churches of Douglas County • 2019
• Early church meetings were held in homes, and the first church was a log church just north of the present building, which was built in 1902. • Pastor P.E. Ording accepted the call in 1905 and was pastor of both the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church and Fahlun Lutheran for 30 years. • The church became inactive in 1967 when Spruce Hill and Faith Lutheran of Miltona merged. A board of former members and historical society members has operated the church since 1994. • While regular worship services are no longer held at the church, traditional Easter and Christmas services have been maintained, as well as a Swedish Hymn service in midsummer. • Besides the special services, the church is used for weddings, funerals and other events approved by the board. Bequests from the estates of Emil Warberg and Esther Rosell, along with other donations, provide funds for church upkeep.

After the church burned down in 1921, the congregation relocated to Garfield, on land donated by the Salstead family. • St. Luke’s is a mother congregation to Calvary Lutheran in Alexandria. • The present 1922 building was added on to in 2007 and again in 2013 to meet the needs of a growing congregation. • We are the body of Christ called by the Truth of the Gospel, enlightened by the Holy Spirit and sent to be the hands and feet of Christ.
