ALL ARE WELCOME: • We invite you to join us for worship. Come experience God’s love, mercy and grace. • Calvary is a church grounded in the desire to be a loving and caring community where, together, we can live out our faith in response to the love we have first received from Jesus Christ. • We are the people who recognize that we are all broken people. We are people who experience real life. We carry scars, and we know pain and hurt. And yet, we believe deeply that the words of God’s grace found in the Bible contain a life-giving message of hope, mercy and joy for you, for me, for all people, regardless of what our lives look like. • Please, join us! Come experience the open arms of a loving and joy-filled family of faith. We welcome the opportunity to get to know you and join with you on the journey of faith. OUR CHURCH: • We are a church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, a network of congregations deeply rooted in the understanding that we have a God who, first and foremost, is a merciful and loving God of grace, a God who loves all people unconditionally.

EMAIL: office@harvestalexandria.com WEBSITE: www.HarvestAlexandria.com CLERGY: Pastor Mike Bartolomeo, Senior Founding Pastor Kim Boutain, Youth Director Katy Zitzmann, Children’s Director Kurtis Haider, Worship Director SCHEDULE OF SERVICES: Sunday Worship: 10:30 a.m. Youth Services: Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. for grades 6-12 For more information and to listen online, visit www.HarvestAlexandria. com or find us on iTunes. OUR MISSION: • To do what it takes to reach and disciple people for Jesus Christ.

16 The Churches of Douglas County • 2017

OUR VISION: • To equip Christians to live irresistible lifestyles and to engage in influential works of service for God’s Kingdom. OUR HISTORY: • Pastor Mike Bartolomeo was led to start Church for the Harvest in the fall of 1999 as a Bible study in his home. In October 2000, that Bible study began meeting at the Alexandria Technical College on Sunday nights. Two years later, in October 2002, they had outgrown that space and moved to the Discovery Middle School auditorium until October 2006. Harvest then acquired a leased space that would accommodate the growth and ministries of the church while removing the obstacles of set-up and teardown each week. • From the beginning, Harvest has focused on reaching out to the local and surrounding communities, as well as the nation and mission fields across the world. • We invite you to see for yourself how exciting church can be when the focus is simple and people are equipped and free to go after God with passion!

EMAIL: office@cornerstoneofalexandria.com WEBSITE: www.cornerstoneofalexandria.com CLERGY: Darryl Knappen, Senior Pastor SCHEDULE OF SERVICES: Worship: 10: a.m. Sundays Amazing Grace Cafe: 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. Sundays Teaching/Application Time: 11:15 a.m. Sundays Fellowship Lunch: Noon, 2nd and 4th Sundays OUR BELIEFS: • “We believe the Bible is the Word of God, which is fully inspired and without error in the original manuscripts. This means that it is our only authority in matters of faith and conduct.”

OUR CHURCH: • Cornerstone is a family-integrated Baptist Church, meaning we believe in families worshiping, meeting and studying together. We believe that the church is a family of families, where the church family (composed of singles, grandparents and families) is supporting the nuclear family in their spiritual development. We do this by encouraging fathers to be the spiritual leaders (pastors) of their homes and mothers to nurture and nourish the next generation to walk with God for His glory. • We are also a church that is highly committed to the Great Commission, which commands us to make disciples of all peoples. To accomplish that task, we plan on engaging 100 percent of our members to the task of evangelism, which is the proclamation and spread of the gospel of Jesus Christ. • You will experience a worshipful blend of songs that makes Jesus the focus of our adoration during worship services. Our services are not the traditional liturgical type; rather, worshipers are encouraged to participate in singing easy-to-sing songs once they catch the melody. OUR MINISTRIES: • Some of Cornerstone’s ministries include Hearbeat Bible Studies and partner ministries with Trout Lake Camp and ZEMA (Zion Evangelical Ministries of Africa).

The building was used until the current church building was constructed in 1966. Emmanuel Episcopal invites you to come and worship with us.

William Bartz.

Two cornerstones mark the occasion – the original cornerstone from 1910 and a second (having marked the 1944 basement completion), which became the 1970 cornerstone. • St. John’s boasts modern facilities and single-level accessibility, with a large fellowship hall, beautiful stained glass windows, an inviting sanctuary, an education wing, a nursery and a spacious kitchen. • St. John’s has a history of 100 years serving the Garfield, Alexandria and surrounding area. OUR CHURCH: • Redeemer Lutheran was organized by Pastor A.C. Seltz from Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria in 1948. The first services were held in the basement of the First National Bank. There were eight charter members. The Rev. Rodel Eberle was our first pastor. At the first voters meeting, the church was named Redeemer Lutheran Church and officers were elected. • In 1949, a lot on the corner of Third Avenue West and Pike Street in Osakis was purchased, a basement dug and blocks laid. The First Lutheran Church of Alexandria was then purchased and moved to the site. • In 1950, our circuit bought some land on Battle Lake near Henning, and we had a church picnic with members from Immanuel Lutheran in Carlos and St. John’s Lutheran in Oak Hill, also being served by Pastor Eberle, on the land that today is Lutheran Island Camp. • In 1961, ground was broken for a new church on the same site. The new church was dedicated on Dec. 10, 1961. • We began to outgrow our church, so a building committee was formed to develop plans for an addition that included a kitchen, fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms. A groundbreaking service was held on June 7, 1976. By June 5 of 1977, the addition was completed and a dedication service was held. The Redeemer Lutheran Church on Third Ave. West in Osakis today was complete. • Redeemer is active in the community with our annual turkey dinner; fair both activities, pie and cake days at the Galeon; and jam/ songfests led by our talented youth group.

EVENT SCHEDULE: • Annual traditional Easter and Christmas services and midsummer hymn fest. OUR CHURCH: • Spruce Hill Church is under the care of the Douglas County Historical Society. The historic church had its beginnings in 1876 on a split log table in the home of Anders Lustig, where a small group of Swedish settlers gathered to write the first documents of the Svenska Augustana Synod Forsamlingen.

• Early church meetings were held in homes, and the first church was a log church just north of the present building, which was built in 1902. • Pastor P.E. Ording accepted the call in 1905 and was pastor of both the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church and Fahlun Lutheran for 30 years. • The church became inactive in 1967 when Spruce Hill and Faith Lutheran of Miltona merged. A board of former members and historical society members has operated the church since 1994. • While regular worship services are no longer held at the church, traditional Easter and Christmas services have been maintained, as well as a Swedish Hymn service in midsummer. • Besides the special services, the church is used for weddings, funerals and other events approved by the board. Bequests from the estates of Emil Warberg and Esther Rosell, along with other donations, provide funds for church upkeep.
