MENAHGA MIDSUMMER

Organized by the Menahga Civic and Commerce, the Menahga Midsummer Celebration in July offers kids’ events, music, a grand parade and fireworks. The parade is renowned for its many entries – from pageant royalty and marching bands to Shriner Club’s go-carts and Scottish bagpipers.

ST. URHO DAYS

Menahga celebrates its Finnish heritage with St. Urho Days every March. The legend of St. Urho says he chased the grasshoppers out of ancient Finland, thus saving the grape crop and the jobs of Finnish vineyard workers. His feast is celebrated by wearing the colors royal purple and Nile green. Platted in 1891, Menahga is named for the Ojibwe language word meaning “there are (many) blueberries.”

In the heart of town sits the beautiful Spirit Lake, complete with a fishing pier and sugar sand city beach.

During the summer months, free outdoor music concerts are held by the lake. “Sounds of Spirit Lake” invites highcaliber musicians to its events.

The city-owned Menahga Memorial Forest Park and Campground is located along south U.S. Hwy. 71. Its 40 acres are filled with stately pines, beautiful birch and hardwood trees. A newly created, 12-hole disc golf course is at the campground.
