VIKING SPEEDWAY

The racing season at the Viking Speedway got underway on May 8 this year, and racers and fans both will be able to enjoy the action this summer on the 1/2-mile track. The speedway has been home to stock car racing at its finest, featuring WISSOTA sanctioned classes – Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks – since 1953. Racing is normally held every Saturday night from the beginning JULY 3: Late Model Special 10: Advantage RV Modified Tour, no Street Stocks 17: NO RACING racing

Highlighting the racing season will be the Hall of Fame night on Cars August 1 as well as the Jerry Kluver Memorial Super Stock Special on August 8. The Viking Speedway is located at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Alexandria, approximately 3/4 mile west of State Highway 29 on County Road 82. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Racing action gets under way at 6:30 p.m. Pit game admission is $30, and $10 for children 10 and younger. Those children younger than 18 must have a parent complete and sign a waiver before being admitted.

Grandstand admission for regular race events is $13 for senior and college students, $15 for adults, with free admission for children 17 and younger. Admission prices in both the grandstand and the pits may vary for special events.

WINNING EDGEgo-kart racing

If you enjoy your racing on a smaller scale, then the Winning Edge Raceway, home to the Runestone GoKart Association, is for you. High flying go-kart action is located at the west end of the Douglas County Fairgrounds, where the Runestone Go Kart Association holds racing every Friday night at 7 p.m. Admission is free for spectators. The Runestone Raceway began as a dirt track with no lights, racing on Sunday afternoons. It has since evolved into a clay oval, complete with lighting, an announcer and spectator stands. It’s not unusual to find the local Girl Scout troops or the racers themselves singing the National Anthem. The racing program at the fairgrounds provides 12 different categories for young racers – Rookie Caged, Sportsman Cageless Animal, Sportsman Cageless Flathead, Sportsman Cageless Clone, Jr. 1 Cageless Flathead, Jr. 1 Cageless Animal, Jr. 1 Cageless Clone, Jr. 2 Cageless Flathead, Jr. 2 Cageless Animal, Jr. 2 Cageless Clone, Pro Open and Pro Stock. Check out future Viking Speedway racers as they begin their careers at the Runestone Raceway every Friday night at 7 p.m.
