WELCOME TO UPLIFT 2012
More than a symposium, UPLIFT 2012 is a participatory event that celebrates our deep understanding that each of us is the change – it is within us, it connects us, and it begins now.
The end-date of the Maya calendar’s 5,125-year cycle on the December solstice of 2012 has become a major focal point for ideas about planetary change. While some may view this as a catastrophic end, fuelled by economic, social and environmental crisis, a unique opportunity exists to harness this global attention into an event that celebrates the essential unity of humanity, and of all life. UPLIFT 2012 is an event created to celebrate this rare moment and herald the birth of a new paradigm of consciousness. UPLIFT 2012 brings together some of the world’s most inspirational artists and innovative thinkers to explore, inquire, share and discover together our role in the creation of this new paradigm. The event includes perspectives from many disciplines including science, wellness, art, ecology, new economics, Indigenous culture and the wisdom of youth. UPLIFT 2012 is being broadcast to an international audience via live streaming and serves as one of the anchor hubs for the global event Birth 2012 (www.birth2012.com), which was founded by leading evolutionary Barbara Marx Hubbard, unites a massive global audience on 22nd December. Given that Byron Bay, Australia is one of the most eastern points in Western civilisation, it will be the first continent to welcome the light of this new chapter of global cooperation and co-creativity. We invite you to join us for this inspiring and unprecedented event from 20th - 23rd December 2012. Four days of inspiration, celebration and positive action.

BIRTH 2012
“This is the greatest opportunity that humanity has ever consciously faced together: the effort to co-create a planetary shift in time to avert global catastrophe by helping humanity cross the gap from “Here”– our current breakdowns to “There”– our future of infinite possibility.”Barbara Marx Hubbard
“I have been a pioneer for many years, but coming to the UPLIFT Festival has awakened in me a deeper than ever sense of hope, expectation and joy. This feeling arises from the field of love being established in Byron Bay for our time together to birth ourselves and a co-creative humanity. It will be a privilege and pleasure to be there with so many other pioneering souls. It will be a global communion. My intuition is that Byron Shire will become one of the great centres for the emergence of our new planetary culture. For me, the invitation to present “Theater of our Birth”, and telling our new story from the origin of creation to the present and beyond is a fulfillment of my life’s dream. We are going to have a Live Birth together and I believe it will help “rewire the global brain.” With Love, Creativity and Oneness,
Barbara UPLIFT 2012 is honored to be recognised as the official Australian anchor for the global event Birth 2012, which will take place on December 22nd, and will unite millions of people across the world in a unprecedented celebration of peace and planetary co-creation. Birth 2012 was founded by evolutionary Barbara Marx Hubbard and is supported by a coalition of evolutionary leaders across the world as “Day One” of a new dawning for humanity. We are honored to host Barbara Marx Hubbard at UPLIFT 2012, where she will launch the Birth 2012 event.

WELCOME TO UPLIFT 2012
A WARM WELCOME FROM BYRON SHIRE MAYOR, SIMON RICHARDSON Byron Bay is both a place and an ideal. The place is a wonder of beaches and hinterland. The ideal of Byron Bay is that there is a place where people meet, elevate their spirits, celebrate community and aspire to develop a society that is sustainable, creative and innovative. An ideal that though we are many communities, we have one future. It is an ideal that sees an individual’s willingness to possess less, so collectively, we all may have more. This ideal has existed in Byron Bay from the dreamtime to modern time. It is in this Spirit, that on behalf of the people who love our place and live our ideal, I welcome everyone to UPLIFT and to Byron Shire. Simon Richardson, Mayor, Byron Shire

Bruce H. Lipton, PhD is an internationally recognised leader in bridging science and spirit. Stem cell biologist, bestselling author of The Biology of Belief and recipient of the 2009 Goi Peace Award, he has been a guest speaker on hundreds of TV and radio shows, as well as keynote presenter for national and international conferences. Dr. Lipton began his scientific career as a cell biologist. He received his Ph.D. Degree from the University of Virginia at Charlottesville before joining the Department of Anatomy at the University of Wisconsin’s School of Medicine in 1973. Dr. Lipton’s research on muscular dystrophy, studies employing cloned human stem cells, focused upon the molecular mechanisms controlling cell behavior. An experimental tissue transplantation technique developed by Dr. Lipton and colleague Dr. Ed Schultz and published in the journal Science was subsequently employed as a novel form of human genetic engineering. Dr. Lipton has taken his awardwinning medical school lectures to the public and is currently a sought after keynote speaker and workshop presenter. He lectures to conventional and complementary medical professionals and lay audiences about leading-edge science and how it dovetails with mind-body medicine and spiritual principles. He is regarded as one of the leading voices of the new biology.
Dr Hunter Adams, also know as ‘Patch’, is a nationally known speaker on wellness, laughter, and humour as well as on health care and health care systems. He approaches the issues of personal, community, and global health with “zestful exuberance,” according to Time magazine. He believes that “the most revolutionary act one can commit in our world is to be happy.” Patch Adams believes that laughter, joy and creativity are an integral part of the healing process and therefore true health care must incorporate such life. Doctors and patients in his model relate to each other on the basis of mutual trust, and patients receive plenty of time from their doctors. If you think that all sounds like a utopian impossibility, it isn’t. Patch Adams and his colleagues practiced medicine at the Gesundheit Institute together in West Virgina that way for 12 years in what he calls their “pilot project.” They saw 15,000 patients. Dr Patch Adams has devoted his life to the study of what makes people happy, and adds to his training as a physician, his experience as a street clown. In working with health and mental health professionals, he explores the relationship between humor and therapy using his unique blend of knowledge, showmanship and “hands on” teaching techniques. Says Dr. Adams, “I interpret my experience in life as being happy. I want, as a doctor, to say it does matter to your health to be happy. It may be the most important health factor in your life.”
Paul Stamets (Mycologist) has been a dedicated mycologist for over thirty years, and has discovered and coauthored four new species of mushrooms, and pioneered countless techniques in the field of edible and medicinal mushroom cultivation. Keynote Presentations: UPLIFT Stage (Main Auditorium) Barbara Marx Hubbard presents: The Theater of our Birth Thursday 20th December 2:30pm-6:00pm A dramatic “Planetary Birth Ritual” celebrates the New Story of Creation and our emergence toward the next era of evolution. Created and narrated by Barbara Marx Hubbard, the Theater will have its premiere performance and will be live streamed from UPLIFT. It will be replayed globally from Los Angeles on our planetary Birthday, 22nd December. The Theater of Our Birth initiates “Three Days of Love,” a collective commitment to help rewire our “global brain” with signals of love and creativity. www.threedaysoflove.com. The Theater will be followed by an interactive experience: “Joining Together to Co-create”. As we converge our creative gifts in “vocational dating” we foster the fulfillment of our greater potential through collaborative action.
James Twyman presents: It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I feel fine)
Anges Baker Pilgrim and Pauline Tangiora present: Stories from the 13 Indigenous Grandmother Council Friday 21st December 2:30pm-3:45pm The 13 Indigenous Grandmothers are a group of indigenous women elders, known as the revered “wisdom keepers” of their ancient cultures. Coming from as far as Nepal, Alaska, Tibet, Brazil and Africa, they act as protectors of their tribal lands, mother tongues, and traditional medicines. Having worked with world leaders such as the Dalai Lama, their wisdom, insight, and vision has touched thousands. As they travel the world together, the 13 Grandmothers have become a source of great inspiration and healing, reminding us of deep spiritual truths and calling our attention to what is most important. Join Grandma Agnes, the chairwomen of the 13 Grandmother Council, and Grandma Pauline as they share the ancient wisdom that the 13 Grandmothers bring at this critical time. They will share stories of the visions, dreams, sacred rituals and ceremony and how we all play a pivotal role in healing Mother Earth for next seven generations to come.
Friday 21st December 10:00am-11:00am 2012 marks the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. For some this is a terrifying idea, but for others it means we are finally able to create the world we have always imagined. Is it possible that we’re on the verge of a new Renaissance, and that our lives are the canvass upon which we’ll create this masterpiece? In this presentation, New York Times bestselling author and Peace Troubadour James Twyman will use music and stories to show how important you are in this awakening. Each one of us has an important role to play, but it always begins with your willingness to say YES!
Bruce Lipton presents: The Biology of Belief: The Science of Personal and Global Transformation Friday 21st December 10:30am-1:00pm We are in the midst of an incredible evolutionary event. Leading edge science is shattering old myths and rewriting the fundamental beliefs of human civilization. Cell biologist and bestselling author, Bruce H. Lipton offers a “new” biology that takes us beyond economic collapse, climate change and religious extremes to reveal that such chaos is a natural step in an unfolding process, rather than the tragic end to a broken planet. A revolution in science provides new awareness that will help us navigate this turbulent period in our planet’s history and reveals how each of us can actively participate in this global evolutionary shift. The Biology of Belief is a journey that takes you into the world under a microscope, through the history of evolution and into the subtle realms of your own consciousness. Frontier science illuminates the hidden connections among biology, psychology, spirituality and our imminent evolutionary upheaval. This dynamic presentation on how consciousness interfaces biology reveals how our thoughts, attitudes and beliefs create the conditions of our body and our place in the world. Rich in detail, yet accessible to the layperson, Bruce’s multi-media presentation offers new awareness that can facilitate our evolution from passive victims to responsible co-creators, while offering the opportunity to heal ourselves and the planet.

sustainability and better health. Paul Stamets will discuss the evolution of mushrooms in ecosystems and how fungi can help heal the environment and its inhabitants. Paul’s work with mycelium shows how these largely untapped organisms can replace chemical insecticides; be a reservoir for new medicines, break down toxic wastes, including petroleum-based products such as diesel, dioxins, and numerous other toxins into non-toxic forms. Farmers, gardeners, green architects and ecological designers, can all use these emerging mycotechnologies.

Fungi, particularly mushrooms, offer some powerful, practical solutions to many of the forces of environmental degradation facing the biosphere. Jonathan Goldman launches the 24 hour Global Chant.
10:00pm – 10:15PM The Mayans and many other indigenous people prophesised tremendous shifts and changes for our evolutionary development at the momentous time of the December Solstice, 2012. Take part in one of the most extraordinary events of our time designed to interface and interact with these vibratory shifts. Join us on 21st December as we resonate with the energies of the Winter Solstice of 2012 through sound, prayer and meditation! Jonathan Goldman and his wife, Andi Goldman will lead this powerful activation. The Global Chant will begin with breath and visualisation techniques designed to create coherence between our heart and our brain, magnifying our electromagnetic field to bring us into an alignment of compassion and love. We will then tone together the “AH” sound. This sound will be encoded with the energy of compassion and love, and the resultant global harmonic will initiate a planetary vibrational shift, as we manifest the co-creative evolution of the Earth and ourselves at this extraordinary stage of our development. While the December Solstice is a simultaneous occurrence throughout our planet, this tone will resonate and vibrate throughout the following 24 hours and more—activating each sunrise of the new day as it occurs in each geographical location. In addition there will be a Global “AH” tone occurring continuously for 24 hours on www.templeofsacredsound.org. 18

THRIVE
THE NATURE OF EXISTENCE
Thirteen Grandmothers from around the world-the Amazon, Asia, Africa, Mexico, the Arctic Circle, and the US heard a prophecy that called them forth. The prophecy told them that they must come together at this critical time in history and speak out to the world in one united voice to share their sacred wisdom. United in their belief, these thirteen Grandmothers decided to form an alliance to share their indigenous ways of peacemaking and healing with the world. As the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers, they unite twice a year to share their wisdom and practices. Can they light the way for us to a peaceful and sustainable planet?
Laya Project is a musical and visual journey documenting folk music recorded and filmed on location in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, India and Myanmar. Some of these performances are rare, and documented for the first time. The musicians are primarily from coastal communities affected by the Tsunami of December 26th, 2004. For the international team of musicians, sound engineers and camera men who came together for this unique production, Laya Project is a celebration of life, and is dedicated to the survivors. Crossing boundaries of genre while still preserving the music of the people, Laya Projects’ essence is artistic purity and simplicity, from a nonjudgmental point of view.
THRIVE is an unconventional documentary that lifts the veil on what’s REALLY going on in our world by following the money upstream -- uncovering the global consolidation of power in nearly every aspect of our lives. Weaving together breakthroughs in science, consciousness and activism, THRIVE offers real solutions, empowering us with unprecedented and bold strategies for reclaiming our lives and our future.
Why are we here, and what are we supposed to do about it? What started the Universe, and was it a mistake? Does God exist, and why does he seem so interested in our sex lives? Filmmaker Roger Nygard wrote down the toughest 85 questions he could think of, roamed the globe to the source of each of the world’s philosophies, religions, and belief systems, and interviewed people who have influenced, inspired, or freaked out humanity. Combining an investigative approach with a spiritual quest, the film is a humorous yet uplifting search for enlightenment, presenting some of the most challenging ideas and extraordinary people living today.

The Economics of Happiness Helena Norberg-Hodge 11.00am-12.00pm The Economics of Happiness describes a world moving simultaneously in two opposing directions. On the one hand, government and big business continue to promote globalization and the consolidation of corporate power. At the same time, all around the world people are resisting those policies, demanding a re-regulation of trade and finance – and, far from the old institutions of power, they’re starting to forge a very different future. Communities are coming together to re-build more human scale, ecological economies based on a new paradigm – an economics of localization.
Deep Ecology and The Conservation of Nature John Seed 12.30pm-1.30pm Deep Ecology is a philosophy of nature which sees that underlying the environmental crisis there is a psychological or spiritual disease stemming from the illusion of separation between humans and the rest of the natural world. A presentation which includes music and poetry, John Seed shows us how to nourish our ecological identity and align ourselves with Earth.
The Power of Sacred Geometry Jonathan Quintin 2.30pm-4.00pm We are in the midst of an enormous change. The old world is dying and a new world is being born. A spiritual shift is occurring. Many people around the world find themselves on the verge of something quite vast, yet indescribable. Sacred geometry can help us move with the changes rather than be overwhelmed by them. When we consciously engage with the harmonic shapes, patterns and forms of sacred geometry our consciousness is imbued with the harmony of universal order.

Rites of Passage have been stripped from societies around the world consuming communities and degenerating our social behavior and desecrating the natural world for over 200 years. Remains of the cultural instinct towards initiation and transition rites remain in authoritarian culture, in consumer-based behaviors, and also how people release the tension of living as work slaves and increasing forms of unemployment. How can we reclaim the benefits of rites of passage that have glued together societies since tribal societies began? As we gather as an international electronic dance community we will examine how our celebrations can assist in the world renewal signaled by ancient cultures for the year 2012.
EVOLUTIONARY ROOM 5 Rhythms Geash Bowler 12.00pm-1.30pm Geash has been dancing the 5Rhythms since 1999 and was trained by the late Gabrielle Roth, founder of 5Rhythms. She has taught classes and workshops in Scotland, Vanuatu and New Zealand. Her intuitive, inclusive style holds an intimate and sacred space, inviting a deep exploration into embodied presence.
Aum Meditation Natasha Hain 2.30pm-3.30pm AUM is an aspect of God — it is the divine creative vibration of the whole universe. Everything in creation is vibrating with God’s power. AUM is the sound made by the vibration of God’s presence within us and all around us. Where there is vibration, there is sound, and if there is sound, we can train ourselves to perceive it, to “hear” it, and to attune ourselves to it, thus actually heightening our own vibrations. Through absorption in AUM, we soon come to realise that the AUM is the bridge between human consciousness and Cosmic Consciousness.

Into the Source of Non Existence – Sufi whirling workshop Ora Bhala 4:00pm-5.30pm Trained as a dancer and Feldenkrais teacher, Ora has been attracted to the sacred dance of the Sufi dervish and the mysticism of Islam. She was initiated to the Mevlevi order of America and has been whirling since 2007, in addition to teaching the art to others. Ora traveled to Jordan, Turkey, America and to the desert of Egypt in search of the mystics who were involved with the whirling practice. Through mesmerising and graceful dance, Ora will address the integration of mind and body in whirling which leads to insight into the hollow shell of self and the surrender of the soul to the transcendent.

If human beings have an inherently peaceful nature, and violence is an aberration from this natural state, what is needed to bring ourselves, our neighbours, and our nations back to a peaceful state? How do we recognize ourselves and all others as part of one human family?
The New Mythology through film Sandra De Castro Buffington 5:45pm-7.00pm What are the new stories of awakening at this powerful moment in our evolution? Recognizing the profound impact of storytelling on human consciousness and behavior, Sandra offers you techniques of Hollywood’s scriptwriters and producers in crafting the most compelling stories of our time for television, film and new media. Participants will learn to tap the inner voice and allow it to speak freely, working with effective tools and techniques for creating a compelling story. Each participant will create a 2-3 minute storyline through a series of exercises from Hollywood’s creative community.
Collaborative Inquiry: Co-Creative Intelligence in Action Collaborative Action Research in the Realm of Spirit is about getting beyond spiritual authoritarianism and participating in new, co-created spiritual shores. We define collaboration as working together (with deeply attuned awareness and empathy) to enhance all our relations and embody our divinity. Our emerging global civilization will depend not on individualism, will-power and competitiveness, but on the skill of deep empathetic collaboration.
DIALOGUE: JOURNEY TO WELLNESS Marc Cohen, Patch Adams, Robin Youngson, and Paul Stamets 10.30am-12.00pm It is time to wake up from the illusion of separation and all the destruction and pain it inflicts on humanity and the earth. VOICE Celebrations Deva Premal and Miten 9.00am-10.00am Throughout the ages every culture, tradition, and religion has one common thread: the power of song. The singing voice is our most potent of healing instruments, and yet in these days of radio, television, and recorded music, it lays dormant in most of us. When was the last time you really opened your voice in joy and sang from your heart to the open sky and the stars? It doesn’t take much, just a willingness to let go into love, a willingness to drop the mind and dive into an ocean of sound. You can experience the joy of being one with others and with everything. You can feel it - because you are it!
The Universe Makes Diamonds Rak Razam 10:30am-11:30am Is the universe a ‘machine for the production of gods’ as philosopher Henri Bergson believed? Is there a loving intelligence behind the wireframe of reality that orchestrates the spacetime continuum for the greatest good of all? Has the planet been secreting Gaian exo-pheremones in the plants to psychoactively switch on the humans to the interconnected web of life? How can we tune into this whole-systems-theory way of seeing the world, where every crisis and hardship is an opportunity for growth and karmic rebalancing? How can we activate the seed within and embrace the pressures of life as a spiritual transformation? Join experiential journalist Rak Razam as he explores the idea that the universe makes diamonds of us all.
A Sustainability Pattern Language for human evolution Tim Winton
dream drone Si Mullumby
12:00pm-1:30pm
6:00pm-7:00pm Si Mullumby discovered the Dream Drone in 2004. It is a unique way of playing didgeridoo. By entering into a particular meditative space the fundamental drone of the didgeridoo divides into many frequencies, creating a tremendously warm and nourishing vibration, The Dream Drone. This sound affects everyone differently. For some they dream, for others they meditate, others just appreciate the warmth and good energy created.
The challenge of our age is to facilitate global sustainability through the creation of a truly thriving planetary civilization. The key to this challenge is our capacity to deal with complexity. We have created an increasingly large, fast paced and complex world, but our ability to coordinate ourselves has not kept pace. Pattern Dynamics is a simple tool that can be learned by anyone to overcome the challenges posed by complex systems and is based on three simple ideas: Sustainable Natural Patterns, the Power of Language, and a Sustainability Pattern Language. This workshop offers participants the opportunity to embody the insight that the patterns of nature hold the key to the principles of sustainability of any system of any type, at any scale.

HEALING SOUNDS: The Sacred Vowels As Mantras Jonathan Goldman and Andi Goldman 12:00pm-1:30pm Chakras are part of the subtle anatomy, a highly refined vibrational interface between Divine energy and the human body. Long known about in Ayuvedic medicine as well as in the mystical and esoteric systems throughout the planet, knowledge of chakras is now entering mainstream medicine. Sound, particularly our own self created sound, can affect the chakras. Vowels sounds have been considered sacred in many different traditions. In their award winning book, Chakra Frequencies, Jonathan Goldman & Andi Goldman teach a system of vibrating the chakras, which works with using specific vowels sounds in order to resonate the physical body and the chakras, bringing them into balance and alignment. In this workshop, the Goldmans will share this technique with participants so they may experience the embodiment of sacred sound within the body. The results of this will be the activation of the chakras and the ability to experience greater health and attunement to higher levels of consciousness, allowing us to keep us with the frequency shifts that continue to occur in these accelerating times.

Prayer & Basket Weaving workshop Alima Annaliese
9:00am-10:00am
10:00am-11:30am
All parents want to give their child their best chances of healthy, happiness and the realisation of their potential. There has been a huge increase in common children’s conditions such as allergies, asthma, digestive problems, ADD, and learning and behavioural problems. Parents can sometimes be overwhelmed and confused by conflicting information about how to deal with these issues in their children. In this talk Dr. Courtney explains why it is important to first deal with the essentials, including nourishing traditional diets, correct breathing, and connection with nature, and she also provides insight into why love and connection are so important in helping children to flourish and thrive.
Come weave you very own coil-style basket, inspired by ancient woven techniques, passed down through the generations. In this workshop we will revitalise pre-loved fabric strips of clothing, sheets, etc., weaving them with colour, story and prayer, weaving a sense of renewal of the old and transforming it into something treasured and special. Materials are provided, but if inspired, bring along any fabric, preloved clothing or personal adornments such as seeds, shells, charms (make sure they have a hole for attaching) that you would like to weave and thread into your basket creation. This weaving circle promises to be a relaxing and enjoyable social experience, and you will come away with a gorgeous creation made by You!
Rites of Passage Arne Rubenstein 10:30am-12:00pm Why did all indigenous societies and communities place so much emphasis on Rites of Passage? It was recognised that the stages of life meant great changes in the psyche of the individual. The marking of these points of change with a ritual or ceremony was recognised as being necessary in order to facilitate this. Birth, marriage and death were obvious times but there were many others that we now ignore in modern Western society, the most important being the transition from boy to young man and from girl to young woman. Dr Arne Rubinstein has extensively studied the topic of Initiations and Rites of Passage in communities around the world and has given workshops and lectures around Australia and internationally at seminars and conferences. Dr Rubinstein delivers highly valuable and inspiring presentations about Rites of Passage for boys and girls. He has created programs that have helped over 20,000 parents and their children to forge strong and healthy relationships for life. Dr Rubinstein was nominated for Australian of the Year in 2008 for his groundbreaking work.

Ta Ke Ti Na Reinhard Flatischler 12:00pm-1:30pm TaKeTiNa is a holistic group learning process and a profoundly new way of experiencing and understanding rhythm. It was developed by world-renowned Austrian composer and master percussionist Reinhard Flatischler. In TaKeTiNa, music, movement, communication, neurological research and chaos theory are integrated to create a new process for learning and transformation. Learning with the TaKeTiNa process develops inner presence, creativity and musicality, and opens an awareness of our individual patterns which inhibit our lives and relationships. TaKeTiNa leads participants to their innate rhythmic knowledge and connects us to the forgotten power of rhythm in nature and within us. TaKeTiNa is deeply relaxing and meditative. It requires no musical experience and invites participants to go at their own pace.
