ECO-UNESCO is affiliated to the World Federation of UNESCO clubs, centres and associations (WFUCA) and is a FETAC accredited training centre. ECO-UNESCO specialises in environmental education and training, and environmental youth work. ECO-UNESCO is a registered Irish charity (Charity no. CHY 7225).

What?
How do I get involved?
ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards is an all-Ireland environmental awards programme that recognises and rewards young people who raise environmental awareness and improve the environment. Preliminary judging takes place at regional ‘Dragons’ Den’ style ECO-Dens.
To enter the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards you need to carry out an environmental project in one of the following categories, under one of the three age groups. Award categories:
Who? ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Awards programme is open to any group of young people in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland under 18 years of age.
Where? Regional ECO-Dens take place in locations across Ireland. ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards Showcase and Awards Ceremony 2011 takes place in the Mansion House, Dublin 2.
When?

ECO-UNESCO Clubs Eco-unesco clubs
What? Get in the club! ECO-UNESCO Clubs are groups of young people aged between 10 and 18 who come together to make friends, make a difference and have fun while sharing an interest in the environment or sustainability issues. ECO-UNESCO Clubs can be a newly formed group or you can affiliate your pre-existing club (like a Scout Group, GAA Club or Green School Group) to ECO-UNESCO Clubs. ECO-UNESCO Clubs get support and advice from ECO-UNESCO staff along with the opportunity to connect with other young people from all across the country. Join ECO-UNESCO and hundreds of other young people across Ireland.
Who? All ECO-UNESCO Clubs are set up and run by young people aged 10-18 with similar interests - to help the environment and get involved in their community while having a lot of fun!

ECO-UNESCO and Toyota offer ECO-UNESCO Clubs across Ireland the opportunity to access a seed grant.
Development Fund!
Take advantage of the ECO-UNESCO Clubs development fund! ECO-UNESCO is offering a special Toyota Club of the Year Award, as part of ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Award. The Clubs of the Year Award and development fund is open to all ECO-UNESCO Clubs who enter the ECO-UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards. Environmental Workshops ECO-UNESCO provides fun and interactive workshops on a wide range of environmental and sustainable development topics, tailored for young people aged 5 - 18. ECO-UNESCO can travel to any location in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to deliver workshops for schools, organisations and groups who work with, or are involved with, young people.

ECO -Discovery
The ECO-Discovery programme consists of three workshops. This programme offers young people the chance to explore their outdoor environment to discover more about their natural and built heritage. Each workshop lasts 3 hours. The workshops are as follows:

Explore Irish woodlands in a unique and fun way. Typical destinations include Knocksink Wood, Glendalough or a natural place of your choosing. Investigate the Irish coastline in an interactive and sensory manner. Destinations include Bull Island, Malahide Beach, Greystones or a destination of your choice. Discover interesting facts about Dublin, from the natural environment and biodiversity hotspots to the built and cultural heritage.

What? The ECO-Action programme consists of a range of workshops covering a variety of environmental issues. Each workshop lasts 1.5 hours (workshop times and content can be tailored to meet your specific needs). All workshops are age appropriate. Any of the workshops in this programme can be accessed as an individual workshop. Alternatively, groups can complete the ECO-Action programme and be awarded an ECO-Leader certificate on completion of the programme. The issues covered are as follows:
Investigate the origins of waste, its disposal and look at the practical solutions to addressing the issue. Explore the importance of trees, their uses and their conservation. Learn how to make your own paper. Discover the natural world around us, how it works and the value of a healthy biodiversity to the world. Focus on the importance of water in our lives and how to conserve it. What is energy and where does it come from? Explore our energy needs and alternative forms of energy. Identify the connections between lifestyles and global issues and how we can live in a sustainable manner. Learn about climate change and help participants answer questions relating to climate change.

Urban Ecology Discovery Days
Energy Explorers Workshops What?
Interactive workshop exploring the Natural Environment of Dublin City, urban ecology and the biodiversity present within the city.
ECO-UNESCO in collaboration with SEAI will be celebrating the Dublin City of Science with a week of day-long interactive youth workshops focusing on energy.
Participants learn new practical scientific skills for identifying species, how to protect and conserve the natural heritage and biodiversity as well as learning practical ecological field work skills. The Urban Ecology Discovery Day incorporates prescribed methodologies for the Junior Certficiate and Leaving Certificate making it ideal revision and examination preparation.
Who? Young people aged 12-18 / youth leaders / teachers / anyone who wants to learn more about Urban Ecology. Ideal for educational school outings.

If so, the Green Teen Youth Club in The Greenhouse is the place for you. This youth-led club aims to offer you space to relax and debate, meet new people and find out more about yourself, to take positive action and raise awareness. ECO-Explorers Holiday Camps @ The Greenhouse! What?
ECO-UNESCO offers a wide range of exciting, fun and interactive environmental workshops for children under the age of 12. Many of our children’s workshop programmes are run from The Greenhouse in Dublin’s City Centre.
Using ECO-UNESCO’s new environmental hub, The Greenhouse, as a base from which to explore nature in the heart of the city, children explore the world around them through outdoor adventures, interactive games, hands-on activities and much more. Taking a city centre safari and treasure trail, building a bug hotel, starting a sunflower race and even launching an ECO-Rocket are some of the activities children taking part enjoy while learning about their environment and nature and having lots of fun. What’s more, they’ll get plenty of ideas to bring home with them!

Teen Summer Camps What?
ECO-UNESCO’s National Youth ECO-Forum 2012 will bring young people, aged 15-18, together to give them a voice and an opportunity to speak directly to experts and to present their own recommendations on the environmental issue of the day.
An action packed week for green teens! This is a week-long series of environmental workshops for young people (aged 12-18), with activities focused on learning about the natural heritage of various habitats close to Dublin’s City Centre. Day-trips to the Grand Canal, the River Liffey and Urban Parklands will be included in the week’s activities, along with classroom workshops creative activities on biodiversity.

ECO-Youth Choices Programme
YOUTH FOR SUSTAINABLE

ECO-Youth Choices is an alternative Drug Prevention Education programme using holistic Environmental Education as a resource. Participants learn how to channel their energy into positive action on personal, community & environmental levels.
ECO-UNESCO’s Youth for Sustainable Development programme offers a range of exciting programmes and events for young people to learn about sustainable development, development education and how to become a peer educator. The programme also has opportunities for youth workers, educators, groups, organisations and businesses.
Participants will be invited to take a critical look at their surroundings and assess how these influence them; discuss how to improve them; and act by putting into practice an environmental action-project

E DEVELOPMENT
This programme offers young people the opportunity to learn about sustainable development and development education; to develop leadership skills and to become peer educators. As part of this action packed programme, Peer Educators organise great environmental events such hikes, shows, awareness raising and even ECO-Picnics in the Park (think mini-electric picnic but greener)! Come along and join the fun each event is free and open to all!
