STUDENT SENATE MEETING BIG TWELVE ROOM SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 7:00 P.M. CALL TO ORDER Speaker of the Student Senate Schultz called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Speaker Schultz led the pledge. ROLL CALL 49 Senators and 23 Interns were present for roll. OPEN PERIOD • Dr. Frank Tracz, KSU Marching Band o New uniforms were presented o Updated senators on band uniform funds • Rachel Cunningham- Student Health Advisory Committee o Theme: Rock your Health o Lafene Video will be shown as promotion o Want student feedback • Nate Warren- K-State Athletics o Gave overview of what is happening with K-State 2009-2010 sports APPROVAL OF MINUTES Harder moved to approve the minutes. Motion seconded and passed. Privilege Fee Chair Schultz o Enrollment increase this year took care of last year’s shortfalls o Met with study abroad representative and preliminary numbers came back higher than expected. Will be sorting out in committee in the next couple of weeks. Governmental Relations Chair Unruh o Went over the 2nd half of City University Fund. Not much controversy except visitor center, upcoming meetings will have different city and university entities coming to talk to committee. o Legislative Advocacy • Beginning to formulate plan. o Committee sent 180 letters to state legislators. Senate Operation Chair Norris o Explained new By-Law revisions Campus Outreach Chair Harder o Gave recap of committee meeting for new interns

DIRECTORS’ REPORTS • Vice President Stoskopf o Well represented at the Schulz’s Inauguration o State of the University Address will be at 3:30 at Alumni Center on September 25 o EOF applications have been accepted and will be announced in the upcoming weeks o Public Relations director resigned on Cabinet and the position is now open • International Affairs Director Althukari o Internal Coordinating Council is holding an event called Coffee Hour • Intern Coordinator Rauth o Held Intern retreat • Had competitions • Par Law Bingo- Winners: tie between David Rose and Megan Sauber • Picture Competition- Winners: Alycia McClarty, David Rose, Megan Sauber, and Andrew Waldman • Bill Writing Competition- Winner: Emily Taylor • Speaker Schultz o Long term tuition strategies appointments next week o Making appointments on student committee on planning o Attended first scoping meeting on Mass Transit • Had great discussion on goals and direction and want input from students. • Speaker pro tem Oliver o Visitation Program • Timeline • Friday Dec. 4- First visitation must be received • Friday Feb. 26- Second Visitation form must be received • End of term- Last visitation form must be received. Introduced by Speaker pro tem Oliver. Fangman moved unanimous consent. Motion seconded and passed. Resolution passed by unanimous consent. FINAL ACTION Bill 09/10/05 Amendments to the Kansas State University Student Governing Association By-Laws Moved by Chair Schultz. Schultz moved Bill 09/10/05 be rereferred to Senate Operations Committee. Motion seconded and passed. INTRODUCTION OF LEGISLATION None OPEN PERIOD • Unruh-Advised senators to use hand sanitizer stations in the Union • Muir-KSU enrollment is highest it has ever been with 23,581 students • Speaker pro tem Oliver- Silver Key will be sleeping out with the homeless tonight as a fundraiser • Sune- Thanked senators for giving tours and helping raise enrollment • Brinton- Started his first club called Global Zero to stop nuclear weapons • Reynolds- Cannons at games on Saturday • Lindemuth- Passed copy of the history of the SGA banquet trophy.
