WHAT DOES IT MEANS AND WHAT MUST THE DRIVER DO?
The sign “STOP” is complemented with a white line vertical to the axis of the road and with another white line in the middle of the road and lengthwise. It indicates the position at which the driver must stop his vehicle before entering the main road. In other words, we stop behind the vertical line, look right, left and again right and if the main road is free, we proceed to enter.
In case there are no white lines, the driver again must stop before entering the main road.
APPROACHING A PRIORITY ROAD WHAT DOES IT MEAN AND WHAT MUST THE DRIVER DO? The sign “approaching a priority road” is complement with a white interrupted line vertical to the axis of the road and a continuous line in the middle of the road, lengthwise.
In this case, the driver must not proceed in such a way or at such a time which may possibly be dangerous for the driver of any other vehicle moving in the priority road or force him to change his speed or direction, thus causing an accident.

While in Cyprus a person has the right to drive a mechanically driven vehicle at the age 18, after a special amendment of the basic law in 1980, a person has the right to drive a motorcycle at the age of 17 if the motorcycle is less than 50 cc horsepower.
THE CORRECT WAY OF DRIVING A MOTORCYCLE
a
Learn to drive your motorcycle correctly and safely. The dangers of getting involved in an accident will be less if you learn how to use the brakes and drive at the turns.
USING THE BRAKES 使用刹车 . The effectiveness of the brakes on dry and well - paved asphalt roads must be 60% in the front and 40% in the back wheel. This is so, because about 20% of the load is shifted towards the front wheel to more downward pressure. Thus, the front brake must be more effective than the back one.
When you want to reduce your speed using the brakes or the gears, keep the motorcycle straightforward on the road i. e. at an angle of 90’ with the road surface.
If suddenly you find yourself driving on a road with small stones, sand or oils, try to keep your motorcycle straight forward and do not use the brakes at all because the motorcycle will slide and you will lose control. If you are forced to use the brakes on such a road or turn, use the back brake.
The most effective stoppage is achieved immediately before the wheel locks. When in case of quick stoppage only the one wheel locks, loosen the brake which locked and use it again strongly.
Never follow a bigger vehicle at a short distance because in case it suddenly stops, you will not be able to stop in time. Your motorcycle needs a larger distance for stopping. Many motorcycles are killed or injured because they hit at the back of the car they follow when the former suddenly stops.
[ 52 ]
[GENERAL DIRECTIONS FOR BETTER SAFETY] [为了更多安全的一般性指导] Drive your motorcycle always on the left edge of the road, or where are driving lanes. Never drive in the middle of the lanes. The carriage of larger vehicles prevents the drivers to see you and protect you.
Do not try to overtake other vehicles, especially larger, except if you can see far ahead in front of you. When the weather is rainy or visibility is limited by other weather conditions like fog, switch on your low lights so that you can be observable in good time by other drivers.
For driving any motorcycle you must possess a driving licence and must be covered by a Third Party Insurance. If your driving licence is a learner’s licence you must have ”L” plates of normal size, color and shape at the front and behind and you are not allowed to carry another passenger except if he is a holder of a regular driving licence for a motorcycle of the same category and if your motorcycle is half - a - horse or greater horse-power.
Motorcycles of less than half-a-horse power cannot be used to carry a passenger except if he is a child under 12 years old and sits horsily at a special seat behind the driver. Motorcycles of half-a-horse power or greater can be used for carrying one passenger sitting horsily at a special seat behind the driver.
The drivers and passengers of motorcycles more than 50 cc must, according to the law, must wear a protective helmet.
The car you are driving can easily become a lethal weapon. And its wide use and agility make it even more dangerous. In most of the fatal accidents involving motorcycles cars are implicated and bear a large part of the responsibility. Learn to respect the rights of the motorcyclists and co-operate with them on the road.
[ 53 ]
All using the road have equal rights irrespective of the size and power of the vehicle they drive. Look upon the motorcyclists with sympathy and protect them. The dangers they face are many more, because they rely only on two wheels, the chassis of the motorcycle does not offer them any protection and they are exposed to the weather conditions.
DRIVING ON TURNS 转向 Driving a motorcycle on turns presents special and serious problems which are due to the centrifugal force created by the fact that motorcycles are supported only on two wheels. Thus, when you are driving your motorcycle on turns you must lean your motorcycle and body towards the direction you are turning. Depending upon the condition of the road surface there are indicated of leaning your motorcycle and your body.
1. GOOD CONDITIONED AND DRY ROAD SURFACE . (PAVED ROADS) 1. Lean your motorcycle towards the direction you want to turn keeping, however, your body form the waist and up in a vertical position. This method gives you full control over the motorcycle and allows you to observe the road at a long distance ahead of you. Never use this method on slippery roads.
2. SUDDEN TURNS OR UNPAVED ROADS
Lean your motorcycle towards the direction you want to turn keeping, however, your body form the waist and up in a vertical position. This method gives you full control over the motorcycle and allows you to observe the road at a long distance ahead of you. Never use this method on slippery roads.
3. SLIPPERY OR WET ROADS
Keep your motorcycle at a vertical position while simultaneously you lean your body towards the direction you want to turn. This position gives to the tyres of your motorcycle the best hold on the road and the best friction resistance between the tyres and the asphalt. Be careful, however, because your visibility is reduced.
