The process of turning low bulk-density biomass into high-density and energy-concentrated fuel briquettes is known as biomass briquette. Millions of tons of agricultural waste are generated each year.
Biomass briquettes are an unconventional source of energy that is renewable, eco-friendly, non-polluting, and cost-effective. The conversion of biomass to solid fuel is also non-polluting. Because no glue or chemical is necessary, it is completely natural.
Biomass Briquettes have a high specific density (1200 Kg/m3) and bulk density (1000 Kg/m3) when compared to loose biomass, which has a specific density of 60 to 180 Kg/m3. These can withstand the rigors of longdistance travel. Loading/unloading and transportation costs are significantly reduced, as is the need for storage. Briquettes have a substantially higher boiler efficiency than firewood or lose biomass because of their low moisture content and higher density.
When briquettes are burned, no fly ash is produced. Due to the lack of Sulphur, heat recovery is possible before the exhaust is released into the atmosphere. India has emerged as one of the most vocal supporters of renewable energy. Kenya joined the approximately 30 countries that have either approved the law and implemented it or passed the law to implement it with the ban on plastic papers.
