DARREN DAILEY CHORAL SERIES

This series features new works for children’s choirs. Series editor Darren Dailey is President and Artistic Director of the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus. Over the past decade, he has made it into one of America’s best youth choruses. Under his leadership the Chorus has grown to serve over 500 Jacksonville children annually in five year-long performance choirs, multiple satellite rehearsal locations, and outreach programs throughout the region.

RICHARD BURCHARD An Irish Blessing SSAA Chorus unaccompanied Beginning simply with soprano 1 in unison, this setting builds to a four part contrapuntal Amen which is gorgeous. Then the text repeats, homophonically in four parts, with simpler Amen. The imagery of the wind, the sun, and rain makes this text a familiar and beloved one. Duration: 2:00 Medium

TOM SHELTON & CAMILLA PRUITT We Sing Alleluia Treble Solo, Treble Chorus, Flute, Violin, Tone Chimes, and Piano This piece for treble voices begins with a simple, chanted "Alleluia" and then blossoms into a beautiful expression of praise. JIM PAPOULIS The Journey of Hope SSA(B) Chorus, Djembe, Shaker, Bass Guitar, and Piano The baritone part written so that it is appropriate for changing male voices. Accompanimental parts are provided for piano, djembe, cabasa, and bass guitar. The title gives a clue to the focus of the text: a forward-looking view of what we can accomplish together through hope and unity. This inspiring text and infectious rhythms make this a must-have piece for young singers. Duration: 3:25

MICHAEL JOHN TROTTA I Will Sing to the Stars SSAA Chorus, Piano, and optional String Quartet This three-movement work (Joy; Dusk; Peace) was commissioned by the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus in conjunction with the centennial of Sara Teasdale winning the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1918. The text for this work is drawn from Rivers to the Sea which was published in 1915 and serves as a seminal example of women’s poetry in the modern era. Medium Joy
