elcome to our Spring 2021 church catalog.
To say that 2020 was an unusual year is certainly an understatement. All of us have been greatly affected by the limitations that the pandemic has placed upon us. For many, the loss of live music-making has been devastating, and yet I have been highly impressed by the many creative ways that have been utilized to provide worship services and concerts. This catalog is our attempt to help provide you with resources that will be helpful in the coming months as we continue to look for effective ways to minister, perform, and teach. We are committed to helping provide you with materials that will be helpful in several ways: • We continue to expand our offerings of downloadable publications to help with quick resources. • We are committed to responding quickly to licensing requests and providing numerous forms on our website. • We continue to produce helpful videos and interviews that are
provided on our website and on our YouTube page. • We are expanding “The Weekly” email newsletter to include a periodic “planning ahead” edition to help with the process of preparing for the upcoming seasons. • We are committed to providing publications from an ever-expanding diverse group of composers and writers that reflect not only the rich worship heritage of the church, but also address the need for racial healing and social change. • We are providing additional help for online learning and rehearsing by cultivating new relationships with ChoralTracks and My Choral Coach. As we look forward to the implementation of a vaccine and our time of rebuilding, we wish you the very best in the months ahead. We really are all in this together. Sincerely, Mark W. Partita on Jesu, meine Freude David M. Cherwien A five-movement partita on Johann Cruger’s well-known tune. The piece begins with a setting of the chorale, followed by a peaceful aria. The third movement is a delightful trio, followed by a very creative duo that is based on the fourth stanza of the hymn. The piece ends in a fiery fugue. Third Sonata for Organ Gerald Near The Third Sonata by composer Gerald Near displays the masterful compositional skills that has come to be expected from this noted composer. The Sonata begins in a buoyant 6/8 with open harmonies and a prominent pedal line. The Adagio that follows in the second movement is beautifully expressive and is followed by a fiery third movement that culminates with a flourish in the pedal. A wonderful recital piece.
