While this will save you money, you do take the risk of having your Caribbean cruise itinerary changed or worse, dealing with horrendous weather during the cruise. Some things you should keep an eye on during hurricane season, bedsides the weather when your Caribbean cruise approaches is if the itinerary has changed. Most of the time this will not happen, unless the cruise line feels that the weather will be too severe. They do not want travelers to have a bad enough time that they won’t rebook. If the itinerary is changed it will be something as excluding a port or switching a port with one that is located further in a different part of the Caribbean. If your itinerary is for an east Caribbean cruise, it might be switched to a more western Caribbean cruise. This is not always a bad thing for cruise passengers. You might not get the original ports you were looking forward to going to, but at least the weather should have increased enough that you can do some sight seeing or maybe even hitting the beaches like you wanted to do. If you are from out of town and are flying into the port city for your Caribbean cruise, keep an eye on flight times and if there are delays or cancellations. Being late to board the ship would ruin your vacation. If you miss the cruise, most of the time a refund will not be offered from the cruise line. There are some instances where the cruise line will give you a voucher to rebook a cruise with them. This does not always happen and you should check with the cruise line you are sailing on about their policies. You should hope for the best, but prepare for the worst while cruising during the hurricane season. This means to pack accordingly. While you might want to just be wearing your swimsuit the whole time while lying on the beaches, this might not be the case. Make sure to bring a jacket and other necessities that will help you through your cruise. Travel insurance can be a “vacation saver” if something does happen while on board the cruise line. If the hurricane does delay the cruise or the cruise is cancelled, instead of having to fight with the cruise line for a refund or rebooking voucher, you will just need to contact the travel insurance company and they will assist you with filling a claim. If you do decide to get travel insurance, make sure to ask what the policy for cruises during hurricane season are and what is covered. Cruising during the hurricane season shouldn’t be left out of your vacation plans. You can get a great rate at up to 30% off of regular cruising prices. Just make sure to be prepared and everything will work out fine and don’t forget to have fun.
