Curriculum-Based Education School Programs
The Elman W. Campbell Museum offers heritage school programs for students in kindergarten, to grade 3 (during the school year). Students will learn about the theme through objects in our collections and engage in hands-on activities. $3.50/child Bookings or inquiries: 905-953-5314 or museum@newmarket.ca
Grade 2: Light, Candles and Winter Celebrations
Mid November to December only
The winter solstice celebration will be explored by students and the winter celebration traditions of three different local families during Victorian Newmarket times will be compared: Rogers (Quaker), Roe (Anglo-Saxon), and Sutherland Scottish).
This program will end with a take-home craft. Students will learn how to use objects to increase their understanding of different historical cultures and traditions.

Treaties Recognition Week
November 5 to 11
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4p.m. | All Ages | FREE (monetary donations accepted). The first week of November marks Treaties Recognition Week. This is a time to recognize and honour the importance of Treaties. Learn about the Williams Treaties and see our collection of Indigenous artifacts.
Remembrance Day Display: Letters from Soldiers
November 1 to November 11
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4p.m. | All ages FREE (monetary donations accepted). The display presents a selection of letters written from Soldiers during WWI and WWII that appeared in the local paper. The letters provide us with firsthand accounts of Newmarket men, giving us a glimpse into their life as a soldier. This display is in recognition of those who fought and died in the line of duty to keep us free.
NEW featured exhibit 2023, ‘Love Local, Love Main Street’
Take a stroll back in time and check out our featured displays based on actual Main Street Merchants and Businesses from the mid-1800s to 1960s. Visitors will learn about: Shoe Cobber, Wm. Wright; Watson Jewelry; Hillsdale Dairy; Anne Mary Simpson, Apothecary; Bert Budd Camera Studio, Ontario Department of Agriculture; Joel Spillette, Canadian Tire franchise; and Elman Campbell Stationery, Books, China and Glassware, through artifacts, photographs and newspaper ads. On display until December 20, 2023. Free admission.

Friday Adult Social Bees: First Friday Of The Month. Offered The First Friday Of The Month From February To November

Fall Masterpiece
Friday, October 6
1 to 3 p.m. | $20
Join us with guest, Cheryl E. Uhrig, and create a fall masterpiece. Cheryl is a painter, illustrator, and cartoonist. Her art is intuitive, spontaneous, and full of colour. Cheryl’s works appear in newspapers, magazines, children’s books and at local art galleries. Museum staff will present a mini pop-up art display from the museum’s collection.
Painted Recipes Boxes
Friday, November 3
10 a.m. to 12 p.m. | $5/person
Share your favourite holiday recipe card and try a new recipe! Today we will be painting vintage-inspired recipe boxes to store your holiday recipe cards in. We will look at recipes from the past. Museum staff will present a mini pop-up display ‘Holiday Treasures in a Box!.’

The spirits summon you to the Elman W. Campbell Museum for some Fun & Friday Night Frights! The night begins with a candlelit reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic poem “The Raven”. Then join us for a tour of the museum as guides unveil artifacts with ghostly connections to local history, as well as their own supernatural encounters. The evening will close with some autumnal apple cider and a chance to share your own ghostly tales!
