Welcome to Frenchfield

Page 3

A good evening and a warm welcome to our visitors, Crown Newlaithes for this re-arranged Cumberland Cup 2nd Round draw and to all those who have made the journey to the Frenchfield Park tonight. No one wants to write a senior match report it seems from Saturday, or Monday night which says a lot really, however, that aside I’m committed from our friendly with Carlisle United in pre season until our last match of the season to make sure standards don’t slip, so thank you for buying this match day programme of which all funds go to the club. Meanwhile, tonight’s match, it’s a Cup Competition that is quite simply run by the Cumberland FA to all those affiliated with it. It is an open door to anyone who wants to have a go and I believe Crown Newlaithes will do just that! I have pulled out a few happy memories of the Cumberland Cup going back as far as the first time we had our hands on the silver back in 1947. On the roller coaster of football, it wasn’t that long ago that we were in the final of 2016/17 at Brunton Park against Workington and those two words ‘extra time’ and the 118th minute saw the Reds score their 2nd goal, which meant we

had come so close. Well blessed and pleased will many be to see that Carlisle United have either Workington or Whitehaven in the next round. So here we are starting again on the Cumberland Cup journey. My thanks to John France for the front cover and our ‘people shot’ on Saturday, afternoon. Pulling hair out was maybe, one way of dealing with the result! Enjoy the match and have a safe journey home. Come on you Bonny Blues!!! Lee Quinn Programme Editor Don’t forget we go again this Saturday at 3pm Newton Aycliffe.

A BRIEF HISTORY CROWN NEWLAITHES F.C.

Welcome to the Visitors

The Club was founded in 1994 after a school training session attracted lots of children, suggesting there was scope for a team at under 10 level. Initially we played at Newlaithes School, in the Carlisle Youth Under 12 League. The following season, when we moved up to Under 14, we changed grounds to Richardson Street to accommodate pitch size Between the years 1994 – 1998 we developed new Boys teams ranging from Under 10’s to Under 16’s. In 1998 Newlaithes merged with another local football club called C.M.B. to form C.M.B. Newlaithes, this giving us scope to branch out and develop all areas of the Football Club with C.M.B. who were already the owners of our present football ground, RICKERBY PARK, which now, after extensive work by our grounds staff, boasts 4 Junior and 2 Full Size football pitches. Every year we hold our own Festival of Football at our ground in Rickerby Park, held over a full weekend, there is a seperate Tournament Day each for Girls Teams & Boys Teams. Over 1000 Children of all ages, participate in these tournaments making it one of the most successful tournaments in Cumbria, if not the North of England. In 2003 C.M.B. Newlaithes were awarded the F.A. Charter Standard Community Club Award, which we are very proud to be holders of, which shows the Professionalism & Dedication of all our Members & Coaching staff. In 2007 Crown Newlaithes were awarded the North East Charter Standard Community Football Club of the year. To date we are now running seventeen teams, which consist of 10 Boys Teams ranging from Under 7′s to Senior Level, & the Girls Section, which consists of 7 teams ranging from Under 10′s to Under 16′s. Not forgetting the Coaching Staff, which stands at well over 30 F.A. Qualified Coaches and is still developing as we speak! Our Senior team was set up this year by David Barnes and Tom Friend with the support from our chairman Jim Hunter. The team is set up for the clubs under 18s to come through this year and mainly next year when they finish Junior football. The club has entered into the Cumberland county league. The club previously had a county winning Sunday team and a successful ladies team In 2006 the C.M.B. Group changed their company name to Crown
