Today signals the start of our first ever St. Benedict’s ‘Well-Being Week’ and events got off to an inspirational start with a visit from the Tashi Lhunpo monks of Tibet. The incredible monks gave our pupils and staff a morning to remember as they performed Buddhist prayers, dance and singing, as well as entertaining them with music from their drum and long horns. We were very lucky to have the famous monks to visit and the performance came about through their link to the Chalice Well. We are hoping to establish a link between the Tashi Lhunpo School and St. Benedict’s.

Other events this week include a visit from Peter, Bishop of Bath and Wells to officially open the ‘Burrow’, our new well-being space, mindfulness sessions and yoga. As part of the week, pupils will be considering different aspects of well-being and will keep a sleep and screen diary. Please help them to record how many hours they spend doing each this week.

St. Benedict’s football teams got their seasons off to a winning start this week with victories on Tuesday and Thursday. The school team triumphed over Elmhurst on Tuesday with a last-gasp 2-1 victory, featuring a great strike from Patel. This followed resilient defending from Roberts and Chant and an excellent debut in goal from Tomsett. Stalwarts Carter and Hopkins proved a creative midfield duo whilst Moon, Ng and Bailey caused Elmhurst headaches.

Thursday saw the turn of the girls’ team in the first ever Local Schools’ Girls’ Football League match. The league comprises four schools and St. Benedict’s first opponents were West Pennard. There was a mixture of nerves and excitement leading up to kick-off, but the team enjoyed the perfect start with Redman slotting home to put them in front. With Fitton and Reakesmith commanding the midfield and Christian, Pizlo and Munns defending magnificently, there was little for Jones in goal to do. Two more goals followed before half-time, with great strikes from Septer and Gawen. The second half provided more of the same; Jones swapped her keeper’s jersey for an outfield shirt and promptly struck a stunning solo effort before Redman added her second. Pennard scored a consolation goal to make it 5-1 to St. Ben’s. Thanks to the excellent supporters and to Mr Shaw and a very excited Mr Ranger.

St. Benedict’s Girls’ Team: Next fixtures: St. Benedict’s Team: 7/11/19 vs West Pennard, 14/11/19 vs Ashcott.
