del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib on Wednesday urged the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (Provincial Board) to immediately conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the recent series of killings in Tagum City for the safety and security of the residents

This developed after the recent series of killings in Tagum City including the tragic deaths of 18-year-old Nike Andyriana Kasim and Grade 1 pupil Monalisa Pagharion. Kassim’s body was found lifeless on April 25, 2023, at Purok Pine Tree, Magugpo North, Tagum City while Pagharion’s decomposing body was found in a grassy area in Barangay Apokon on April 20, 2023.

The governor requested the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to collaborate with the Philippine National Police, the Tagum City LGU, and other concerned agencies to ensure a comprehensive and thorough investigation.

“The barbaric nature of this crime has left us all in a state of shock and despair. I extend my deepest condolences to the victims’ families and friends and assure them that justice will be served. It is deeply troubling to witness the rise of horrific crimes targeting our children and women in Tagum City. These heinous acts, which have recently become all too common, force us to question the safety and security of our citizens, particularly women, in our beloved city,” Jubahib said in a statement.
