Coming April 2010: A new Beginning ...

CANADA’S Formerly The Beaver

ARCTIC vIsIons

Two groundbreaking films. Nanook of the North soared. The other was forgotten.

This is NOT your same old Beaver!

Canada’s History is the newest incarnation of The Beaver magazine. Founded in 1920 by Hudson’s Bay Company, at 90 years it is second only to Maclean’s as the longest published magazine in Canada. Originally launched as the Hudson’s Bay employees’ magazine, based largely on the fur trade, it has evolved into Canada’s ONLY history magazine.

With 44,000 paid and audited circulation and an audience of 348,000 intelligent, wealthy Canadians,Canada’s History is your way to reach history and culture enthusiasts, a prestige market for high-quality services and products. Published 6 times per year, subject matter covers the whole range of Canadian history, with particular emphasis on social history, politics, exploration, discovery and settlement, aboriginal peoples, business and trade, war, culture and sport. Every major Canadian historian has written for the magazine. Other luminaries who have contributed include Margaret Mead, Stephen Leacock, Ken Dryden, R.H. Thomson, Lysiane Gagnon, Heather Robertson and Jane Urquhart. Based on a Canada-wide survey in 2008, 47% of respondents said they were ìvery interestedî in Canadian history. It also identified Canadians under 25 as the second highest demographic with a keen interest to read about our past. Our new brand and new look will leave us better positioned for readers to discover us online and on the newsstand. It will focus on delivering a fresh, integrated approach to delivering stories and information that appeal to them both in print and online.
