Wrong Day, Charlie
by Marianne Willow
Story 5
Track 66
It’s Monday morning. Charlie’s at school. Charlie’s in First Grade at the Merry Meadow Elementary School. Right now it’s history class. Charlie likes history, but he’s thinking of recess at the moment. “Make a model of a castle for homework,” Miss Harding is saying. Bring it to school on Thursday.”

It’s Monday evening. Charlie is on the telephone. “What’s the history homework?” he asks Mel, his friend. “A model of a castle,” says Mel. Charlie says
“Goodbye,” and starts to make the model of a castle. It’s fun! Charlie makes a great castle.

Wrong day, Charlie!
Oops, I’m sorry!
It’s Tuesday morning. It’s Geography class for the First Grade. Charlie’s late. “Good morning. Can I come in?” asks Charlie. “Yes, Charlie. Hurry up!” says Miss Harding. “Look at my castle,” says Charlie. “Wrong day, Charlie!” says Miss
Harding. “History is on Thursday. Today it’s Tuesday. It’s Geography today, Charlie.” “Oops, I’m sorry!” says Charlie.

It’s time to go home. “PE tomorrow,” says Miss Harding. It’s soccer tomorrow, and Tae kwon do on Friday. Don’t forget.” But Charlie isn’t listening. He’s looking for his pencil on the floor. Ah! There it is! His pencil’s under his desk. PE tomorrow! Yes, it is always PE on Wednesday! It’s PE on Friday, too.

It’s Wednesday morning. The First Grade is playing soccer. All the children have shorts and soccer shoes. Oh no! Charlie is in his tae kwon do uniform. “Wrong day, Charlie!” says the PE teacher. “It’s soccer on Wednesday. Tae kwon do is on Friday!” “Oh!” says Charlie. All the children laugh.
Wrong day, Charlie!

It’s Friday morning. Miss Harding is writing the day on the board. “What day is it today, Charlie?” asks Miss Harding. Charlie thinks. “Thursday,” he says.

The children laugh. “Wrong day, Charlie!” they shout. “It’s Friday.”
Miss Harding gives a piece of construction paper to Charlie. “Charlie,” she says. “Make a weekly calendar.” “Why?” asks Charlie. “Because you always get the day wrong!” says Miss Harding. “Oh!” says Charlie.
