The Festival aims to be the most exciting, innovative and accessible festival of the performing arts in the world, presenting over 150 performances and events by around 70 companies. In 2010, approximately 396,000 people attended Festival events.

About the Festival in 2011 Festival 2011 brings exotic and diverse cultures from Asia to Edinburgh – travelling across half the globe to the far west.

The finest artists from China, India, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam join world renowned performers from Europe and the West for a three-week exploration of our shared passions.

Key Festival 2011 facts  The Festival runs from 12 August to 4 September 2011  Full details of the programme will be announced on 23 March 2011  Presents Asian masterpieces alongside works by Western artists who have been inspired by them  Enjoy performances by the National Ballet of China and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra; dance from acclaimed Vietnamese choreographer Ea Sola; a contemporary version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet by the Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe and much more  Offers the chance to immerse yourself in the beauty, traditions and distinctive philosophies of these cultures, both ancient and modern
