PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE SRSS and Associates, Inc. May 2008 - February 2009 From June 2008 to February 2009 I worked as an intern at Smallwood, Reynolds, Stewart, Stewart, and Associates, Inc. During most of my time there I worked on City View Center, a nine-story, 125,000 square foot speculative office building and parking deck located in Gainesville, Georgia. The rendering at right shows the main approach to the structure. City View Center is the first phase of a three phase development that is meant to set a new standard for luxury in Gainesville. The prominent siting and location of the project, and the use of materials, from the exterior curtain wall to the marble and fine wood interior applications, all convey its importance. In addition, at ninestories high, City View Center will be the tallest structure in Gainesville. The other four images show my specific contribution to the project. The top two are different views of the proposed parking deck design. I generated a 3D model of the structure for future renderings using AutoCAD. The model includes every detail of the future structure, including structural footings, expansion joints, stair railings, and door frames. In addition to the threestory model shown here, I also generated a six-story version that would likely be implemented in the second or third phase of the development. The bottom two images show the progress of the building core from early schematic design to final construction documents. I was responsible for updating and maintaining all of the plan drawings as well as optimizing the spatial layout of the core. This process required attending meetings, coordinating with structural and HVAC consultants, and constant communication with the other team members.

URBAN DESIGN Small Town Design Initiative Fall 2006 Professor Cheryl Morgan’s Small Town Design Initiative program (STDI) offers design services to small Alabama communities in need of a cohesive vision for their future growth. The program is associated with Auburn’s Urban Studio and, in this case, the Architecture/Community Planning dual degree program. Myself and three other students, lead by several members of Auburn’s architecture and planning faculty, brought the STDI program to Abbeville, Alabama. This process included extensive research of the town’s history, detailed recording and analysis of their existing built environment, and a series of open meetings facilitated by the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce. The meetings culminated in a weekend-long charette in which the student and faculty teams produced dozens of images to convey ideas for future growth and presented them to the town in a final open forum. The ideas suggest forms of growth to minimize sprawl, strategies for preserving and reinforcing the character of their historic downtown, ways to encourage tourism, and other general improvements to beautify the town and connect the people in it.

ARCHITECTURE Hudson Farms Public Library Fall 2007
The Hudson Farms Public Library was designed as a part of a larger Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) style project. Provided with a preliminary master plan developed by Dover, Kohl & Partners, my studio collectively set about translating the two-dimensional guidelines into a three-dimensional town experience. My portion of the town was two blocks located adjacent to the main town square. Within these two blocks, I had to include the town’s public library. I chose to site the library on the corner across from the square in the most prominent location. The structure is designed to be highly visible and important, a symbol of civic pride. In contrast, the infill buildings I designed are simple and subdued, as their primary function is to define the public realm of the street.
