4. Underscore (Farmer's Wife) Narrator: Jemima would find a warm little corner of the farmyard to lay eggs. The farmer's wife would never find them. "What sweet little eggs!" Said Jemima. "What dear little eggs!" (Music starts) "Good morning, Jemima Puddle-Duck", said the farmer's wife, "what are you doing all scrunched up in the corner?"

6. Underscore (Jemima Sets Off) Narrator: "What's the matter, Jemima." "The farmer's wife won't let me hatch my lovely eggs. I'll hatch them all by myself. I'll hide them very cleverly. 9a One Egg, Two Eggs Narr: Jemima Puddle-Duck came every afternoon to visit the handsome gentleman. She laid nine eggs in the nest. They were greeney white and very large. The foxy Gentleman admired them immensely. He used to turn them over and count them when Jemima was not there. "What are you doing, sir, with my eggs?" "Simply counting them, my dear madam." q = 96

Narr: "Tomorrow I am going to begin sitting on my eggs", Jemima told the foxy gentleman. "I will bring a bag of corn with me, so that I never need to leave my nest until the eggs are hatched. They might catch cold." "Madam, don't trouble to bring any corn. I'll give you a sack of oats. And when your eggs are hatched, we shall have nine little ducklings!"

10 Underscore (Jemima was a Simpleton) Narrator: "Before you begin sitting on your eggs, I would like to give you a treat", said the gentleman. "Let's have a dinner party all to ourselves. May I ask you to pick some herbs from the garden so as I can make an omelette. Sage and thyme, and mint and two onions. And some parsley. I will provide lard for the stuff.... lard for the omeletts." (Music starts) Jemima Puddle-Duck was a simpleton. Not even the mention of omelette or sage and onion made her suspicious. q = 148

11 Chase Narr: He was rather abrupt. "Come into the house as soon as you have looked at your eggs. Give me the herbs for the omelette. Be sharp." She had never heard him speak like that. She felt surprised and uncomfortable While she was inside someone with a black nose sniffed at the bottom of the door and then locked it "Quack! Quack! Somebody's locked me in!" (Music starts) There were the most awful noises - barking, baying growls and howls, squealing and groans.
With Menace!

Narr: Kep had a bite on his ear and both puppies were limping. They took Jemima home in tears because of those eggs. She had some more in June. She was allowed to keep them for herself. But only four hatched. Jemima said it was because of her nerves; but she had always been a bad sitter. 40 3 Fl.

Narrator: (directly to audience) Let's sing that song together - perhaps with the actions you have learnt. Repeat from start or from bar 15 ad lib Narrator: Old Mrs. Rabbit is a widow - she lost her husband, it's a very sad story. She earns her living by knitting rabbit-wool mittens, and she sells herbs, rosemary tea and rabbit tobacco that's what we call lavender.
