A Major Month for the North Florida PGA
Greg Koch, Ritz-Carlton Golf Club-
Grande Lakes Orlando, has had a pretty major month. Koch had quite an impressive run at the PGA Professional Championship. Sparing no effort for four days straight, he had one goal in mind throughout his rigorous week: securing a spot on the PGA Championship Team of 20. And after tying for 17th, he accomplished what he intended to do. Bound and set for Kiawah Island, there was nothing that could slow him down. Embracing the esteem from achieving the incredible feat of qualifying for his first major championship, he employed the momentum of his significant accomplishment and channeled it into his noble performance at the NFPGA Match Play Championship. After a solid qualifying round at Laurel Oak Country Club, he secured a bye in the round of 64. He advanced from the round of 32, continuing to play dominant matches, winning 4&3 in the round of 16. He grinded out a gutsy win in the round of 8, going to 19 holes in his match against David Damesworth. He went on to Greg Koch solidify his spot in the final championship match against Rod Perry. While Perry had a commanding victory, Koch displayed unwavering resilience to conclude his successful week. Continuing an impressive streak of performances, Koch landed within the top 10 of the nail-biting 2021 Stableford Championship at Orange Tree Golf Club, which had quite the dramatic ending. Following the conclusion of the final round, Tom Adrounie, Orange Tree Golf Club, and Stephanie Connelly-Eiswerth, Eagle Harbor Golf Club, were tied at the top of the leaderboard with 87 points, forcing a sudden death playoff. The playoff continued for four holes with both players birdying two out of the first three holes. It all came to an end on the fourth hole where Adrounie, in outstanding fashion, chipped in for eagle to achieve his remarkable victory. It was also quite the debut for Connelly-Eiswerth’s first championship event as a new member in the Section! If this start to the season is any indication for the rest of the year, we are all in for a treat!
