History Repeats Itself at the Winter Park Hickory Classic

Winter Park Golf Course (known to

the locals as WP9) was the site of the 2022 Winter Park Hickory Classic.

The Winter Park Golf Course

traces its origins to 1914 when Harley A. Ward and Dow George were commissioned to lay out a 9-hole course on 25 acres at the north end of

Winter Park, a charming little suburb of Orlando created as a haven for

snowbirds seeking more hospitable temperatures in the cold months.

So that description of hospitable temperatures didn’t quite make it easy for the tournament on January 22nd and 23rd with temperatures in the low 60’s with blowing misty rain. I heard many comments that it was fitting that they were playing Hickories… because it really felt just like Scotland. 46 men and 8 women tee’d

it up in the Winter Park Hickory Classic hosted by Bill Geisler and the Florida Hickory Golfers.

History did repeat itself for 2 individuals in the field. Will Peterson

took 1st place again in the Men’s Open Division and Marci Likens finished a second year straight on top for the Women’s Net Division.

Do we hear a Three-peat for these great players of 2023?

Men’s Gross Division:

1st Place Will Peterson 2nd Place Bo Turocy 3rd Place Wally Armstrong

Men’s Net Division:

1st Place Jeff Shafer 2nd Place Jim Davis 3rd Place David Webster

Women’s Gross Division:

1st Place Bailey Wiegandt 2nd Place Beth Chambers 3rd Place BJ Hayden

Women’s Net Division:

1st Place Marci Likens 2nd Place Kendall Capaz 3rd Place Rosemary Pabst
