With the Jewish holiday of Passover just around the corner (Passover begins APRIL 5), many people choose to serve wines that are kosher-certified. So, just how different is kosher wine from the non-kosher stuff?

“When it comes to taste, there’s no difference between kosher and non-kosher wine,” says Jay Buchsbaum, Executive VP Marketing and Director of Wine Education at Royal Wine Corp. —

Private Collection

Cabernet-Merlot:

The Carmel Private Collection Winemakers Blend is made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This wine has fragrant aromas of blackberry and plum, with hints of spice and a long, lingering finish.

Chardonnay:

Barkan Reserve the top kosher wine purveyor in America. “In fact, many kosher wines are award winning - beating out their non-kosher competitors for top varietal prizes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and rosés as well.

An elegant, complex and fullbodied Chardonnay with flavors and aromas of oak, apple and pear. The wine is crisp and lingers on the finish.

There’s a common ‘urban legend’ that wine is rendered kosher after being blessed by a Rabbi –that is incorrect. For a wine to be made kosher there are strictly supervised purity guidelines that need to be followed from the moment the grapes enter the winery to when the wine is bottled,” adds Buchsbaum. www.kosherwine.com

Fermented to dryness and made no added sulfites, the wine opens with notes of wild sun ripened blueberries, black raspberries, and brambly boysenberries. The mid-palate explodes with cherry pie filling, and the structure is silky, soft, with just the right amount of age-worthy tannins.

Light in body, with on the nose and palate orange blossom, fresh strawberries, cactus pear and. Fresh, floral and fruity with good acidity.

To be considered kosher, Sabbath-observant Jews must supervise and sometimes handle the entire winemaking process, from the time the grapes are crushed until the wine is bottled. Any ingredients used, including yeasts and fining agents*, must be kosher.

This pleasantly sweet sparkling wine has a moderate crimson reflection with delicate floral fragrance of honeysuckle and raspberry aromas. The sweet palate of strawberries and melon make this a wonderful wine for desserts and fruits or simply for enjoying it on its own.

Dark cherry red in color. On the nose raspberries, red cherrries, hints of bell pepper and tobacco. Mediumbodied, the palate displays a smooth texture with an array of red forest berries, graphite and tobacco leaves with hints of anise and spices.
