AICA and CCA to Conduct Joint Cattle Evaluation

Positive impact for both Associations

In years gone by, the American-International Charolais Association (AICA) and the Canadian Charolais Association (CCA) ran their national cattle evaluations together. For reasons unbeknownst to this author, the practice of running joint evaluations ceased at some point in time. However, in recent years the AICA and the CCA have once again begun discussions of merging their genetic data and running joint evaluations. When I joined the AICA in November of 2021, the AICA Fall Board Meetings were held in Louisville, KY. Craig Scott, General Manager of the CCA, and Doug Blair, consultant to the CCA came to Louisville to join in the discussion of reinstituting a joint genetic evaluation. As a newcomer, I thought this was a great idea to help promote international trade between Charolais breeders in Canada and the U.S.A. I naïvely thought we would begin joint runs in the Spring of 2022. Afterall, our geneticists at the time, Bill Bowman and Sally Northcutt, had overseen a test run of merged data from AICA and CCA in the summer of 2021. In their opinion, the results of the test run were very favorable. They were optimistic a joint genetic evaluation between the AICA and CCA would soon be initiated.

AICA and the CCA to discuss animals who were dual enrolled in both associations as well as an international identification system with standards set forth by the International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR). Sean McGrath spent several weeks identifying Charolais cattle who were dual enrolled in AICA and CCA herdbooks. Mike Brooks developed a system to assign unique ICAR numbers to each Charolais animal registered in the AICA and the CCA. Meanwhile, Kelli Retallick-Riley and André Garcia realized they needed to change a portion of the system at AGI to accommodate the number of digits included in the ICAR numbers being generated by Mike Brooks. With good intentions to conduct a joint-run in early August, the discovery of Progressive Ataxia in the summer of 2022, changed the focus of the AICA and CCA for several months. With bull sale season quickly approaching in Canada and the U.S., the decision was made to delay a joint run until the Spring of 2023.

In February and March of 2022, Bruce Mitchell, AICA legal counsel, and I spent several lengthy Zoom meetings with Craig Scott, General Manager of the CCA and Adrienne Waller, legal counsel for the CCA, going over details of an agreement between the AICA and the CCA to conduct joint genetic evaluations. During those meetings, I realized some members of the leadership team at CCA desired to have an additional test run prior to conducting a joint evaluation between the two Charolais associations. In the summer of 2022, while traveling in the UK with delegates to the World Charolais Congress, I had several opportunities to visit at length with Craig Scott and Darwin Rosso, former president of the CCA, who were very encouraging about the progress that had been made towards renewing a joint genetic evaluation between the AICA and the CCA.

In late June of 2022, Kelli Retallick-Riley and André Garcia from Angus Genetics Incorporated (AGI) initiated an e-mail exchange with Sean McGrath, genetic advisor to the CCA and Mike Brooks, computer programmer and developer for the

and the CCA. In March, Kelli Retallick-Riley and André Garcia met with leaders of the AICA and the CCA to present their findings, including correlations from test runs conducted this spring. While changes will be witnessed by breeders, especially in those lines where genetics are being shared north and south of the border, the advantages of combining these datasets leads to more impactful genetic evaluations due to increased number of records. Once a joint national cattle evaluation is run between the AICA and the CCA, Charolais breeders and users of Charolais genetics will be able to make more informed breeding decisions across U.S. and Canadian cattle. Cattle marketed between the U.S. and Canada will have directly comparable Charolais EPDs under a joint evaluation. With the increase in trade between Canadian and U.S. Charolais breeders in recent months, I am optimistic that comparable Charolais EPDs under a joint evaluation will have a positive impact on the sale of Charolais genetics between Charolais breeders in Canada and the United States.

AmericanInternational Charolais Association

The AICA is the official registry for Charolais and Charbray cattle in the United States. Charolais cattle were first brought to the U.S. in 1936. In 1957, the American Charolais Breeders Association and the International Charolais Breeders Association merged forming the present AICA. Membership in the AICA is obtainable when the applicant has ownership in at least one animal, and has paid the initial membership fee of $125. AICA annual dues are $100.

Junior National Entry Deadlines

The 2023 AIJCA Junior National Show & Leadership Conference will be held in St. Paul, Minn., July 2-7. Early registration deadline is May 10 and late registration/ownership deadline is May 20. All entries will be completed online at www.CharolaisUSA.com, complete registration and event details begin on page 33 in this issue.

Female Enrollments

Female enrollments for 2023 are open January 1, 2023. Regardless of the program you choose, your active females should be enrolled. There are 2 enrollment programs:

WHR – Each active female is enrolled at $16 until April 1. For the $16 you get the registration and transfer of the calf born in 2023. You will also get EPDs on unregistered calves with weight data in valid contemporary groups. The enrollment fee goes up after April 1.

PPR – Each active female is enrolled, however there is no fee attached to the enrollment. You will pay the traditional registration and transfer fees as you register and transfer the calves, depending on the age of the calf. EPDs on unregistered calves is not part of the PPR program.

Export Your Data for Sale Catalogs

Under the “tools” tab, you will find a new “Data Export” button. This data export gives you the flexibility to export data on animals in your herd and use those data files in your own management packages. You can download and save the files directly to your computer in a CSV (can be opened in Excel) format. There are many options within this feature including selecting the type of animal to export and specific data.

Record your 2023 born calves using AICA’s online system. Add the data as the calves are born; continue to update the records as you add weaning and yearling data. Register the calves at any time by adding their name.

Animals Held in the System

If an animal is registered online and held in the system, you can transfer that animal at any time. If an animal was registered online, but wasn’t held in the system, it will not be able to be transferred online. You will need to fill out the back of the certificate that was mailed to you and send it back to the office to be transferred.

KEEPING THE CUSTOMER IN MIND.

What began as a search for what would be more economically viable for the family ranch has now turned into a multi-generational family ranch. Curtiss and Brenda Nipp never thought the combination of their youngest son’s FFA project and a need to make their small commercial cattle operation sustainable would develop into what is has today. Curtiss is a third-generation cattleman, raising cattle on the same piece of property his great-grandfather did in Southern Oklahoma. Growing up, Curtiss’s family didn’t have a large cow herd. Their small family farm consisted of a dairy cow, 20 commercial beef cows, and around 50 acres of cropland the 17 brothers and sisters harvested by hand.

“I saw some of my neighbors and good friends using Charolais bulls on their herds and thought to myself if those bulls are working for them, they surely will work for us.” said Curtiss. Shortly after that he found an unregistered Charolais bull from a local order buyer and quickly got him out with some cows to test his theory. At

this time his cowherd was mostly Brahman influenced cattle. “We had your run of the mill cow herd for those days. Some with horns, very few black, and most of them weren’t easy going,” said Curtiss. Nine months later his first calves hit the ground and he knew there was no turning back. Curtiss remembers thinking “If the calves were that good out of an unregistered bull, what could they be if I had a registered bull?” It was just a few short months later and two more Charolais bulls were on the Nipp homestead.

After several years of using Charolais bulls on commercial cows, Curtiss wanted to purchase a few Charolais females. At the time Curtiss’s youngest son Travis, was in high school, “I thought it would be a great opportunity for him to add to his FFA project.” Four Charolais females joined the herd that spring. The next year Curtiss added 20 more purebred Charolais females, and the year after that an additional 10. This was the start to a dwindling brahman influenced crossbred cowherd

Curtiss strives to produce a variety of bulls that meet the demands of his customers. “I know, no two cow herds are the same. So I try to offer bulls that will work on every cowherd phenotypically but really maximize your profits when you match your cowherd with the proper EPD profile,” said Curtiss.

and the start to a purebred seedstock operation. “I saw the demand for good Charolais bulls coming into place and decided to act on it,” said Curtiss.

As Curtiss was getting his feet wet in the purebred industry, a life changing event occurred. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the fall of 1995,” said Brenda. Life suddenly became much different for the family as Brenda was taking radiation treatments to battle her cancer. Oldest son Justin was in college and recalls “I would come home from school and drive mom to the city so to be with her for her treatments.” While Brenda was battling cancer, the family juggled their cattle, Curtiss’s water well service business, the boys’ school, but also Brenda’s flower shop. “I remember making flower deliveries in dirty work clothes after work,” said Curtiss.

Twenty- seven, two-hour one-way trips to Oklahoma City for treatments was what it took for Brenda to ring the bell.

In 2000, Curtiss dispersed the last of his commercial cows. Curtiss said, “It wasn’t always easy. We had a couple bulls that were the type that gave Charolais bulls a terrible reputation, we paid attention to those genetics and quickly altered our program.” He knew the Charolais breed had its flaws but was willing to figure out what worked within those cattle. “I knew the Charolais bulls I wanted to market had to be something I would use on my cowherd, so I paid close attention to performance early on.”

“I think the way I got into the breed is the reason I focus on the success of our customers,” said Curtiss. Curtiss understands the importance of needing bulls that can endure harsh environmental condition during the breeding season and a need for calves that are going to maximize profits. “Knowing the cattle we are producing must first be functional and profitable is something I like

to keep in mind when I am making breeding decisions,” said Curtiss. “I’ll never make a breeding decision that could result in a failure just because of a calf’s sex. If I use a bull, he better have the ability to produce not only quality bulls but also productive females,” said Curtiss.

Understanding his customers’ needs is what his operation is structured around. “We build cattle from the ground up,” said Curtiss. He said, “Our cattle must be a complete animal, consisting of good structure, appropriate phenotype and EPD’s that indicate they will add value to their offspring.” Knowing the Charolais breed is already known for their high growth performance, Curtiss likes to keep in mind the end value is on the rail. “We have started ultrasounding our bulls to get an indication of how well these cattle can truly perform for our customers,” he said. “I think it is important to look at the carcass traits as a group and not just one specific trait as cattle are graded off both quality and yield,” said Curtiss. He then said, “We have been told our bulls have some of the best ultrasound data for Charolais bulls and could even compete against other breeds, and that means we must be doing something right.”

Therefore, we must produce bulls that not only add pounds but add them at a higher quality end product,” he said.

CHAROLAIS SPOTLIGHT

How long have you been in the Charolais breed and how did you get involved?

Alex – This is my sixth year showing cattle and being involved in the Charolais breed. My Dad found a composite Charolais steer as my first 4-H beef project. We traveled to Des Moines for our first Junior National and found the Charolais family to be very welcoming.

What other activities do you participate in?

Alex – I am involved in the Maine and Chianina Associations and show steers nationally. I am finishing my freshman year at Gibson City Melvin Sibley and am active in 4-H, FFA, livestock judging, soccer, church, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. I enjoy helping on the family farm every chance I get.

What is your favorite memory that you have made working with Charolais cattle?

Alex – I have met some really awesome people through showing cattle. There are lots of memories, but some of my favorites are being selected in 2021 as 4th overall intermediate showman, spending spring breaks at Will Blanker’s house working cattle, time at the stalls with friends, dinners out with our Charolais show families.

What is your cattle operation based on? And how do you stay involved in the junior Charolais Association?

Alex – My family and I are working to raise high quality Charolais show heifers. We do this by flushing and breeding past show heifers while buying eggs and pregnancies of some of the elite Charolais cows.

Who has been your role model in the Charolais breed?

Alex – Will Blankers and Trent Bertchse. Both have helped me learn to be a better showman, taught me how to fit, introduced me to fellow Charolais breeders and partnered with me on cows and bulls. They have shown me patience, challenged me to try new things, corrected me when I was wrong, and are helping to develop me into the herdsman that I hope to be.

What are your future goals?

Alex – I hope to be competitive at the national level. I would love to follow in Will and Trent’s footsteps and be Junior Herdsman of the Year. When I become old enough, I plan to run for the Junior Board. I want to continue to build my herd and am working to find some pasture nearby that allows me to not only have more cows, but learn about pasture management.

Leadership Conference Session Highlights

Holly Hoffman was the last remaining member of the Espada Tribe and the last woman standing on Season 21 of CBS’ hit reality show “Survivor Nicaragua”. Through that experience, and others throughout her life, Holly was inspired to share her message of survival.

University of Minnesota Meat Science Laboratory Intermediate & Senior Session

The Meat Science Laboratory, located in the Andrew Boss Laboratory of Meat Science (ABLMS), is a modern meat processing facility capable of processing both red meat and poultry species. In addition to the extension, research, and teaching capacities that the laboratory serves, fresh and processed meat products are also made available for purchase by the university community and interested parties, and some products may be featured in other university dining venues and events.

At the Meat and Dairy Salesroom, consumers may purchase meat products that have been processed in the Meat Science Laboratory as well as dairy products made in the Pilot Plant in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition.

Life Lessons Learned

At Junior National in the show ring and contest rooms

Hello! My name is Mattie Harward and I am from the small town of Richfield, North Carolina where my family runs a commercial cow/ calf operation, two livestock auction markets, and a livestock video auction. Additionally, my sisters and I have a purebred cattle operation as well. Through our different ventures, we strive to help farmers in our area by marketing their cattle to the best of our abilities and also providing the best genetics we can for them. My sisters and I grew up showing cattle across the country and some of our best memories were made in the show barn preparing and traveling to shows as a family and for that, I am forever grateful.

With that being said, my favorite time of year is here, summertime! Summer means junior nationals are right around the corner! Each year, juniors come from all over the country to compete and share fellowship with one another in one location. Because of junior nationals, I have made connections and friendships that I know will last

at one goal, try again, but at least you know you gave it your all.

You only regret the opportunities you did not take. So seize every opportunity to try new things and step out of your comfort zone. If it was not for going to the leadership conference at my first junior nationals, I would have never met one of my closest friends.

Make the goal to meet someone new or make a new connection. Someone once told me that your network is more valuable than your net worth. Those people you meet and the friends you make are going to be with you for a lifetime. Surround yourself with people who want to see you succeed. It is important to find those mentors that you can look up to for guidance, support, and knowledge. Find those mentors that you can call to ask questions, learn from, push you to accomplish goals, and who will support you.

Be kind and humble with everything you do. There is no denying we all like to win. However, we

a lifetime and these friendships all started because of the shared passion we had for Charolais cattle. For many juniors like myself, we look forward to this week all year long, preparing each day for the cattle show as well as the contests that are provided. Everyone comes from all over to compete in the show, showmanship, and contests. Through competitions and leadership conferences, juniors can learn many skills and make many connections that turn into lifelong friendships. Like many juniors, junior nationals will always hold a special place in my heart.

I am writing this article as my junior career is quickly coming to an end. I will be forever grateful for the lessons and opportunities this industry has taught me, but as I look back at my time competing in the show ring and contest rooms, there are a couple of life lessons I have learned that I would like to share.

Give it all you got all day, every day. Even on the days, you do not think it matters, it does. Set goals for yourself and make sure that you push yourself to accomplish those goals. Even if you do not succeed

can not forget that winning is not everything. It is important to have kindness on those days that you lose and to be humble on the days that you win.

The American International Junior Charolais Association is a wonderful organization and provides juniors with many opportunities. This association has given me the skills, tools, and knowledge to be successful. By competing in contests I have learned various skills like communication, knowledge of the beef industry, and the importance of teamwork. By showing cattle I have learned the value of responsibility, hard work, and what it means to win and lose. Finally, I have learned that the Charolais breed is filled with wonderful people and mentors that strive each day to not only provide the best genetics but also opportunities for juniors to develop their own skills to be successful. I encourage you today to step out of your comfort zone and talk to anyone in the Charolais breed to see how you can get involved in this incredible breed and association.

Obituary

Jamie G. Fred, 75 of Rose, Neb. passed away February 9, 2023 under the outstanding care of the Burwell Community Memorial Health Center.

Jamie was born March 9, 1947 in Valentine, Neb., son to Diane Jane (Hoagland) Fred and Glenn J. Fred. Prior to their move southwest of Sargent, Neb. to the K.C. Ranch, their family spent some time right after Jamie’s birth on the Eatinger Ranch in Brownlee, Nebraska. He later spent his grade school years at Somerford District #35 and graduated from Sargent High School in 1965.

Jamie then went on to graduate from North Platte Community College.

Jamie married Kay Louise (Richardson) Fred on March 13, 1971. They had two children, Holly and Stoney. They worked on the K.C. Ranch for five years. During this time, they took a few registered Charolais cows and put them out on lease, while working for Slagle Angus, Sargent, Neb. Slagle’s encouraged them to get into the registered Angus business, which became the start of their involvement with the two breeds. They then called Williams-Williams Ranch of Johnstown, Neb. home for nine years before leasing a ranch from Dr. Dean Gilg of Newport, Nebraska in 1985. They then went on to purchase their current ranch in Rose, NE in 1991.

Jamie’s family was one of the first pioneer breeders of Charolais cattle in Nebraska. It was easily said that cattle were his passion. They had private treaty bull sales for several years before having their first bull sale in 1988 which led to an annual sale including not only bulls, but later heifers and online club calf sales for the next 34 years, ending with the last sale in 2022. Along with this they showed and sold cattle at the Denver Stock Show, Rapid City Stock Show, Nebraska State Fair, and the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic where they consigned for twenty-one consecutive years. Jamie was a member of the American Angus Association, Nebraska Angus Association, American-International Charolais Association, Nebraska Charolais Association, and the Sandhills Cattle Association.

Along with the cattle, Jamie team roped in his younger years belonging to the Mid-States Rodeo Association, Johnstown Roping Club, and the Rock County Roping Club. Through the years he enjoyed following his kids in all their endeavors whether it was 4-H, school sports, rodeos or roping’s. He had a life time of wealth in family, good neighbors, and a host of friends.

Jamie is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Holly (Mike Bacon) Boswell, Okla., and son Stoney (wife Jenny), and granddaughter Gracie-Mae, Wittmann, Ariz., and step grandchildren Endie Bacon, Boswell, Okla., Charley Newton, Wittmann, Ariz., & Calvin (wife Sabrina) Newton, Wittmann, Ariz., sister Tami McIntosh, Sargent, Neb., brother-in-law Kurt Richardson (Sue Schmitz), Phoenix, Ariz., and several nephews. Jamie was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Diane Fred, and brother, Myron Fred.

Obituary

Steven Michael Keppen, 74, of Volga, S.D. passed away Thursday, March 9th, 2023 at Avera McKennan Heart Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Steven Michael Keppen was born on February 26, 1949, in Chester, S.D., the son of Clare and Mary (Wilkinson) Keppen. He grew up in Orland, S.D., and graduated from Orland High School in 1967. Steven continued his education at Dakota State University in Madison, S.D. where he played college basketball for the Trojans and graduated with a degree in mathematics along with his Master’s Degree from South Dakota State University.

Steven was later married to Myrna Poppe on October 3, 1969 in Madison, S.D. They lived in Madison, S.D. before moving to Volga, S.D. in 1971.

Keppen taught mathematics for 43 years at the junior high, high school, and collegiate levels. He began his teaching career at Sioux Valley in Volga, S.D. while also coaching basketball for the Cossacks. He then taught mathematics and computer science at Dakota State University. Steven spent most of his education career instructing AP classes at Brookings High School where he was an AP Teacher of the Year and received the Siemens Award for Advanced Placement.

Outside the classroom, Steven raised Charolais cattle on their ranch alongside his two sons. Steven’s greatest joy was being grandpa and great grandpa. He loved spending time on the ranch with his grandkids doing chores, calving, and showing Charolais cattle. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids participate in their school sports and activities. Steven cherished anytime he was with his grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Steven also enjoyed flying his airplane, hunting, fishing, and watching sunsets over Lake Poinsett with a Lord and Pepsi in his hand. He was always watching the Sioux Valley Cossacks, SDSU Jackrabbits and the Celtics games and listening to the Minnesota Twins. Steven was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the American-International Charolais Association, and the South Dakota Charolais Breeders Association.

Steven is survived by his wife Myrna of 54 years of Volga; two sons, Greg (Janell) Keppen of Volga, and Benjamin “BJ” (Katie) Keppen of Harrisburg; his grandchildren, Keah (Nick Hardin) Dixon, Mattisyn Keppen, Braxton Keppen, Halle Keppen; great granddaughter, Ava Hardin, his brothers and sisters, Lynne Kupris, Randy (Kathy) Keppen, Ray (Pam) Keppen, Charlie (Michele) Keppen, Beth (Joe) Chounard, Kate (Chris) Funk, Robin (Pat) Kerrigan; brother and sister-in-laws, Patti Milley Keppen, Larry (Wanda) Poppe, Kathy Poppe, Rod (Kathy) Poppe, Ranae (Greg) Fritz and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clare and Mary Keppen; a sister, Donna Oines; a brother, Jim Keppen; his father and mother-in-law, Eldon and Elaine Poppe; brothers-in-law Delane Poppe and Dave Oines; and niece, Stephanie Washburn.

Obituary

Michael “Mike” Clayton King, 75, Westminster, S.C., passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023.

Mike was born February 8, 1948, in Anderson, SC to the late Harold Bleckley King, Sr. and Ruth Prater King. Mike attended and graduated from Oakway High School in 1966. Upon graduation, King joined the Navy and served for 23 years. During this time, he earned an Associate in Science Degree from the University of the State of New York in 1988. Mike went on to retire from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander. As a Vietnam Veteran, Mike was also an Ordinance Specialist attached to the “Ghost Riders” on the USS Constellation Aircraft Carrier, 1968-1969.

Mike was a member of the South Carolina Charolais Association and raised registered cattle on his farm, Nubbin Ridge Farm. His love of farming and animals, big and small, began when he was a young 4-H member winning many awards showing his Jersey cows. Mike was very pleased to qualify “Century Farm” status for the family’s Nubbin Ridge Farm, in Oakway, where generations of the King family, had lived and farmed since 1916. In addition, Mike was also an active member of Bethel Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon Hudson King; children, Michael C. King, Jr. of Oakway and Shannon Rebecca Patterson, and grandchildren, Hannah Grace Patterson and William Jude Patterson of Greenwood, S.C. He is also survived by his brother, Harold B. King, Jr., (Rachel), of Wrightsville Beach, N.C. and sister, Julia K. Davis, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., along with many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, Michael is preceded in death by his sister, Gerry Volberding and brother, James F. King.

The family would like to thank the NHC Healthcare Parklane staff of Columbia for their loving care of Mike during his final days. Also, special thanks to the Rev. Jeremy Dean and the Bethel Church Family for their support and prayers.

Obituary

Rosemary Orth, 77, of Seaton, Illinois passed away on Saturday, March 25 in Monmouth, Illinois.

Rosemary was born July 10, 1946 to Jim and Margaret Orth in Monmouth, IL. She grew up on the family farm in Seaton, Illinois and attended the Seaton schools and later worked in the cafeteria with Margaret serving home cooked meals to the lucky kids that attended the schools.

Rosemary was pivotal in creating an awareness of the need for a special education department at the school. Rosemary spent her youth, just as her older brother Neil did, showing their Hereford cattle at the Mercer County Fair. The Mercer County Fair was the highlight of every summer for Rose and even after she was too old to exhibit in 4-H she still took her latch hook creations as well as her John Wayne collections.

To say Rosemary was a creature of habit would be an understatement. She had a set schedule every day and rarely veered from it. She enjoyed it when her nephews and niece would come to visit as long as they didn’t disrupt her Lawrence Welk or Little House on the Prairie TV shows. It didn’t matter who was with her or what they were watching on TV, when her last show of the day was over, the TV was turned off and she would go to bed. Another item on her weekly schedule that was seldom missed was attending Norwood United Presbyterian Church every Sunday. Rosemary enjoyed the fellowship and the extended family the church offered. There is no doubt Rosemary was strong in her Christian faith and was a firm believer in always doing the right thing and simply being a kind person that enjoyed the company of others. Rosemary, much like her father, loved Hereford cattle and Boxer dogs. A couple of her favorite dogs included Dude, Bubbles and many others.

Rosemary also had the best memory of anybody we ever met. Once her nephews and niece were older and away from home, Rosemary would be the one to call and remind everybody that not only did somebody have a birthday coming up but would also remind them of how old the person would be. And she was always right! A few years after Jim passed away in 2000, Margaret and Rosemary relocated to the Courtyard Estates in Monmouth and later to the Legacy Estates. Her final home was the Monmouth Nursing Home.

The family wishes to thank all these communities for their warmth and welcoming care. Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her brother, Neil (Diane) of Kansas City, MO and her nephews, Brian and Scott (Michelle) and niece Jamie (Matthew) as well as her great nieces Sydney Orth, Raegan Orth, and Brighton Lane and nephews Coleman Orth and Cooper Lane.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Charges dependent upon stage of production will be invoiced to advertisers who cancel previously submitted advertising.

DISCOUNTS

A 5% discount for all advertising will be given if prepaid for one year. No agency commissions allowed on breeder rates.

CLOSING DATES

All advertising copy (including photos) must be in the Charolais Journal o ce by the 25th of the second month preceding publication, i.e. Jan. 25 for the March issue or the rst working day thereafter. A $100 late fee will be applied to all late advertisements. Proof deadline: 20th of the second month preceding publication, i.e. Jan. 20 for March issue.
