The concept for the Universal Design Kitchen was derived from incorporating the same idea of layering from the first project to this design. When looking through one elevation, the void and transparent glass appear to be one, creating a square. On the opposite side, the translucent glass emphasizes the idea of the square being repeated throughout the model and in the center, the square metal mesh appears ambiguous in shape, from the different wood joints.
56
The design for the kitchen emphasizes this idea of layering through glass and light. The translucent glass window in the partition and the transparent exterior window create ambiguity. This is also repeated in the ceiling, where the false ceiling, artificial lighting, and the skylight create a sense of obscurity.
