Masonry SCOPE NARRATIVE This scope includes the supply and installation of all types of masonry systems including stone, clay, concrete, cinder, adobe or glass, or other manufactured masonry units installed as a non-load bearing veneer, or in single and multiple wythe masonry assemblies that are either load or non-load bearing construction, including associated accessories integral to the wall assembly. This scope for supply and installation includes and excludes the following items regardless of where they may appear in the tender documents unless specifically noted otherwise in this scope: TRADE DEFINITION INCLUDED 1. 2.

Concrete Masonry Units, including blocks and veneer units; Clay Unit Masonry, including brick and adobe veneer, clay flue units and tiles, or structural clay and terra cotta blocks and bricks; 3. Refractory brick when forming part of a masonry heating receptacle or appliance; 4. Glass Unit Masonry, including blocks and bricks; 5. Natural Stone Assemblies, including marble, granite, slate, travertine, and limestone cladding panels and stone veneers, attached to structural substrates utilizing mechanically fastened anchors, or with ties and mortar; 6. Manufactured Unit Masonry, including calcium silicate and cast bricks, blocks or stone and another manufactured unit masonry, not described above; 7. Thin Veneer Assemblies, cement adhered using mesh or lath, and scratch coat installation systems, and including attachment girts and cementitious sheathing panels forming a part of thin veneer assemblies; 8. Building envelope components including weather, air and vapor membranes, and rigid or semi-rigid board insulation integral to masonry wythes, veneers, facings and cladding including; a. Cavity wall flexible sheet or liquid applied weather, air or vapor membranes, behind masonry and when masonry is the last component being installed, including connection to work of the preceding trade where required. If connection is required by any trade following the masonry installation, then the masonry contractor provides a minimum of 200 mm of compatible overlap material beyond the exterior point of the masonry system; b. Cavity wall insulation including adhesives, anchors, and other fastenings and attachments, behind masonry, when masonry is the last component being installed; c. Loose fill or foam insulation forming a part of masonry assemblies. 9. Masonry laid with mortar containing bonding agents regardless of being pre-laid or otherwise: a. Mortar; b. Concrete and grout fill in masonry only. 10. Flashings: a. Built-in metal flashing - supplied by others; b. Non-rigid and fabric flashing when built into masonry. 11. Caulking (other than firestopping): a. Masonry to masonry and; b. Caulking of joints in masonry or masonry to other materials, including caulking when it forms part of the expansion or control joint, when masonry is the last work being installed. 12. Accessories for masonry or similar type blocks, which are integral to the masonry assembly including: a. Anchors and ties; b. Z-girts, rigid or semi-rigid board insulation and cement board integral to thin veneer assemblies; c. Weep holes and venting devices; d. Wire reinforcing to mortar joints up to 9-gauge (3.8 mm) wire ties or similar type ties; e. Reinforcing steel placed only in masonry - supplied by others to the job site, clearly tagged and identified as to end use, See Reinforcing Steel (Concrete Reinforcing) – Supply, Included; f. Tying reinforcing into cages for masonry when shown on drawings as supplied by Reinforcing Steel (Concrete Reinforcing) – Supply Included, see Reinforcing Steel (Concrete Reinforcing) - Installation, Excluded; g. Precast concrete band courses, copings, sills and heads which are an integral part of masonry cladding, including board insulation and weather, air or vapor membranes behind these items; h. Damp proofing membrane in masonry.
