HELLO FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO

SHERRY JORDAN

The beginning of a new decade brought on many changes for the Edmond Chamber. We began the year by celebrating some of Edmond's finest at our Annual Awards Banquet, where we also inducted five new members into the Edmond Hall of Fame. At the banquet, we introduced our new mobile app and our updated website, tools that we hope will improve our member's user experience. With the help of the City of Edmond, we will soon launch a Diversity and Inclusion Series with the mission to recognize the talent, expertise and knowledge of Edmond's diverse workforce as we move towards being a more inclusive community. In 2020, we've welcomed two new staff members who are eager and motivated to bring on positive change. They've brought expertise and fresh ideas to the table and we're excited for the work they're doing. Two thousand twenty marks my sixteenth year working at the Edmond Chamber and my fourth as President and CEO. I say it all the time, but I love my job and I'm encouraged by the progress that we've made as a chamber, and as a community. It is truly my pleasure to serve this community that is unlike any other.

ABOUT THE

EDMOND CHAMBER

The Edmond Chamber exists to protect the interests of Edmond businesses by giving them a place to extend their network, advance ideas and promote their products and services. For more than 114 years, the Edmond Chamber has worked hard to fulfill our mission to be the voice for business, and to enhance economic opportunity and quality of life in Edmond. The Edmond Chamber is proud to be one of only three chambers in Oklahoma to be designated with a 5-Star Accreditation by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Accreditation indicates that a chamber of commerce operates under effective organizational procedures and contributes to significant positive change in the community. To achieve this standing, we performed an intensive self-assessment of our operations in nine areas of work, including governance, government affairs and technology.

WHY EDMOND IS AMONG OKLAHOMA'S

MOST LOVEABLE COMMUNITIES

There are many factors to consider when evaluating a community; crime, schools, cost of living, job opportunities and amenities are among the top. However, everyone knows there are a thousand other elements that make a community great. For many, Edmond has been home for decades, but the community has welcomed many new faces. In fact, the Edmond Economic Development Authority reported more than $1.4 billion in residential home sales in 2019. With current growth trends, Edmond is expected to pass the 100,000-population threshold in the 2020 Census. Growth is evident to residents but is also being noticed statewide. Edmond landed in first place for Niche.com's Best Place to Live in Oklahoma. The website takes into account schools, crime, nightlife, family-friendliness, housing and diversity. They also collect reviews from residents and Edmond has 158 five star reviews. Take a look:

"Edmond is such a great place to grow up...I have not met anyone who lives in Edmond that does not absolutely love it here. Edmond is safe and a great place to grow." "Edmond has been my home for the last 21 years...Edmond has been a wonderful place for my family, and I am passionate about how great our community is. The public-school district is renowned for being the best in the state, crime rates are very low, the location is just 30 minutes from downtown OKC, and there is a surplus of good, kindhearted people.

It's no coincidence that so many restaurants are opening second locations in Edmond's charming downtown area. The Mule, an OKC original, opened its second gourmet grilled cheese restaurant in December and has been busy ever since. Just across the street, Frenzy Brewing Company is planning to open in May in the historic E.A. Bender building. Homebrewers since 2011, owners Matt and Jeremy know a thing or two about brewing great beer. Look to the left to see a pour of their New England IPA, Unspeakable Things. Edmond welcomed its first climbing gym with the opening of Blocworks in February. The bouldering gym is open seven days a week and is complete with a patio for members to enjoy. The most buzzed about addition to downtown is Edmond Railyard,

a multi-use food hall featuring six restaurants, a craft bar and office space. From tacos to chicken wings, the family-friendly space has something for everyone. Hott Wings, a spin-off of Eddie's Bar and Grill, claims to have the best wings in the state - and no one's arguing. Their chic, boutique bar is the perfect spot to catch the big game or simply enjoy a night out. Craft cocktails, local beer and an expansive wine selection can be found at 1884. The venue is open to all ages, but also has an adult-only mezzanine that includes an enclosed cigar lounge. It’s easy to spend a day in downtown, but there are several other districts and pockets of the city that shouldn't be overlooked. Fifth Street is home to the UCO Jazz Lab, a world class entertainment venue with a relaxed, New Orleans-inspired atmosphere. New developments are coming soon to the area including the new Park 17 building that includes two stories of modern living space with a Nashville-style chicken restaurant on the ground level. More than 370 miles of Route 66, aka the Main Street of America, run through Oklahoma. Travelers of the Mother Road pass through Edmond where they'll see the state's first public schoolhouse, the 1889 Territorial School. The city proudly boasts its rich and colorful past and works hard to preserve its historical sites. With more than 39,000 photographs, documents and artifacts from the days of Oklahoma Territory and the 1889 Land Run, leading up through today, the Edmond Historical Society and Museum is a phenomenal resource for history lovers. Home to antique shops and niche boutiques, hiking and biking trails, classic and unique dining options, colorful murals and meaningful sculptures, as well as a strong sense of community and hometown spirit, it’s easy to love living in Edmond.

JOE CARDENAS "Hidalgos is my favorite place to eat because they are accommodating and will customize your dish to your liking. They're also very community-oriented."

MELISSA BAKE "My go to place to shop is Plenty Mercantile. From babies to your best friend, there is truly something unique for everyone! The selection is vast but not overwhelming. We are so lucky to have this unique and locally owned shop in our community. In addition to all the goodies, the shop folks are always friendly and very helpful."

ZACH RUSSELL "My favorite place to take company is Louie’s. We go there all the time for lunch or dinner. The food is great, they have excellent happy hour prices and trivia night is a blast!"

SOMER THOMPSON "There are so many reasons why ShowBiz is my favorite place to go for fun. The theater seats are so comfy, they have good food and drinks, a fun atmosphere, great staff and it's in a convenient location. It's fun for kids and adults!"

SMALL BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

FROST AUTO Established in 1987, Frost Auto Accessories and Design was built on the foundation of quality work and friendly service. The owner, Wayne Frost, was working for a local auto dealer when he realized he had a passion for the industry and he wanted to be his own boss. He got started by putting white walls on tires, a popular trend at the time. From there he learned how to apply pinstriping, graphics and paint protection film. As his skills improved and client base grew, he transitioned from offering services out of the back of a pick-up to getting his first standalone building. Two years ago, Frost bought the property at 4646 Rhode Island Avenue and converted the former home into an office and garage. Their honest reputation and quality service sets Frost Auto apart from their competition. “I think one thing that makes a business great is providing a good service and treating people how you want to be treated...If you do that, they’ll continue to come back.”

CONGRATULATIONS LEADERSHIP EDMOND

CLASS XXXV

Leadership Edmond is a nine-month program, coordinated by the Edmond Chamber to identify, educate and develop a select group of Edmond citizens for positions of community leadership. Class XXXV is presented by Edmond Electric and the day session sponsors are MIDCON, Frankfurt Short Bruza Associates, P.C., Mercy and Francis Tuttle Technology Center. Class XXXV graduates on April 30, 2020 at the Hilton Garden Inn and Conference Center. The graduation sponsor is Evans and Davis. The alumni of the year will be announced at graduation.
