April Murphy My passion for art began as early as I can remember at a little round yellow table full of art supplies in my bedroom (thanks to my parents who nurtured this talent as a child). And even though it remained a passion throughout my early life, when it was time for college and beyond, I decided on graphic design as a career at TCU. It wasn’t until 2008, when a first-ever layoff landed in my lap that I turned to art again. With full intentions of looking for another position in marketing and design, I picked up a brush and started painting for a creative outlet before starting the job hunt. To my delight, my work started selling and the rest is history. How about that? You can make a living as an artist! As I honed my skills, I began doing festivals and hanging work in galleries. The turning point for this second career of mine was being chosen as the featured artist for Bayou City Art Festival in 2016, a top-ranked art event in the US. Other opportunities followed that, including commissions for Memorial Hermann Greater Heights, KPRC Channel 2 News, and Cizik Eye Center. And most recently, I will be the featured artist for the Edmond Fine Arts Festival at the beginning of May! This good fortune has paved the way to the charity side of things‌ I am so grateful for what has come my way and the best way I know to give thanks is to turn that around to others. My other passion is animals and while I don’t have the fortitude to fight in the trenches for them (bless those that do!), I can raise money. Projects have ranged from Paws for a Purrpose (a state-wide art project) to 12 Reasons (a Keep Houston Beautiful year-long personal fundraiser) and now my latest addition as one of three lead artists for AFTA (Artists for the Animals) in conjunction with Dog Lodge (check out doglodge.org for more info on this amazing facility!). I have a beautiful studio at Winter Street Studios in Houston, TX and am thankful for every artful day because I get to go to the studio and make something, and at the same time, make a difference.

In 2018, Kyle Dillingham & Horseshoe Road were one of the featured performers at the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellows Concert in Washington, DC, to honor their good friend and Fellow recipient, Manuel Cuevas. Cuevas has been attributed as being the man who put Johnny Cash in black. “Manuel has been such an inspiration to me, so I wrote a song for him, You Inspire The World: A Song for Manuel,” said Dillingham. “It was the highlight of my career to perform the song at this prestigious event to honor my good friend. The host of the event, Grammy-winner Martha Gonzalez, and everyone in attendance were blown away by our tribute!” Cuevas has also outfitted such legends as Elvis, Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan and Kyle, Peter and Brent are honored to be added to his client list. “We were also selected for a coveted performance at the 2018 CMA Fest in

Downtown Edmond Arts Festival 2019 Nashville, which was another highlight of our career,” Dillingham said. “After our performance, we had the chance to play for Charley Pride in his dressing room at the Grand Ole Opry and hang out with Blake Shelton and others backstage! What an incredible experience.” That same year, they also opened for Grammy Award-winner, Lee Greenwood, at the renowned Neewollah Festival in Independence, Kansas. The band has been selected to participate in the 2018-2019 American Music Abroad season, organized by The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and The Association of American Voices, with a tour through Kosovo and Kuwait. They were chosen as one of fifteen ensembles, standing out in an applicant pool of nearly 300 bands. “We are so excited that we’ve been accepted to participate in the upcoming AMA tour season! Having already performed in 37 countries, we look forward to this opportunity to take country music, once again, to new frontiers,” Dillingham said. “Whether at home or abroad, we have an important opportunity everyday to change peoples lives with our music.” With an eclectic musical style ranging from Blues to Bluegrass, Gypsy Jazz to Western Swing, Country, Rock and Gospel, Kyle Dillingham & Horseshoe Road blend them into an earthy genre of music that is uniquely Oklahoma. “From Bob Wills to our original Americana-flavored new songs, get ready for a high energy, uplifting musical experience,” said Dillingham. In 2017, Dillingham and his band completed a two-week Silk Road and the Fiddle tour in China representing Oklahoma and the United States with a musical celebration of cultural relations and performances. “We were the first ever Americana/ Country band to perform in the region of Gansu Province where we toured,” said Dillingham. “We were also one of only four to be granted a meeting with Gansu Governor, Tang Renjian, representing our state with a letter from Governor Mary Fallin. Governor Tang gave us a hearty two thumbs up for his first-ever personal serenade we gave him during our official meeting! We were proud to represent the United States at the International Expo that was also attended by around 40 ministry-level lead

delegations,” said Dillingham. Kyle Dillingham & Horseshoe Road have also taken the stage with The Charlie Daniels Band, The Oak Ridge Boys, Roy Clark, Hank Thompson, Lisa Ling, Vince Gill, Jimmy Webb, Toby Keith and Thailand’s Pop Superstar, Tik Shiro, and have performed with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, China’s Lanzhou Symphony Orchestra and the Amici Symphony Orchestra, among others. Dillingham, an Enid native, has electrified and energized audiences around the globe. He picked up the violin when he was nine, and eight years later, he gave two featured performances at the Grand Ole Opry. Honored by Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry, Dillingham was selected as a recipient of the 2009 Governor’s Arts Award, acknowledging his life’s work as a violinist, vocalist, musical ambassador for the state of Oklahoma and for his gift to connect with people throughout the world. Dillingham was also a featured performer for the King of Malaysia, the Princess of Thailand, Singapore’s National Day Celebration, and he was televised throughout all of China. A frequent visitor to Washington D.C, he has performed for the Japanese, Thai, Romanian, and Saudi Arabian Ambassadors, to name a few. Dillingham is now managed by legendary impresario, Jim Halsey, who has guided the careers of many great performers including Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Clint Black, James Brown and many others. As a Creativity Ambassador, he performed as a part of the Creativity World Forum in November 2010, where he received a medal of honor and took the stage with Hanson, Leona Mitchell and other Oklahoma natives. “We’ve performed for kings and princesses, and we’re ready to bring that same passion to one of the best festivals in the metro.”

Founders Kristy and Randy Payne with their daughter collect much needed items for children in foster care.

Fostering Sweet Dreams is a non profit that provides tangible needs such as beds, car seats, high chairs and strollers to kinship foster-care placements along with unexpected traditional foster-care placements. Kristy and Randy Payne were so moved by the needs of foster children that they’ve made it their life’s goal to help and started this organization. Since March 2016, the Fostering Sweet Dreams Foundation outreach has been providing children, and those who care for them, necessities such as beds, car seats, high chairs and strollers. The organization has impacted 1750 children to date. Although a bed or a car seat might not be someone’s idea of a luxury item, they are in great demand. Many times Fostering Sweet Dreams is able to fill the gap and provide items needed for kinship foster care, teens aging out of foster care, domestic abuse victims or to keep children out of foster care. The Paynes believe supporting foster families is key in allowing, in many cases, for placement to happen. Visit the hospitality tent at the Downtown Edmond Arts Festival to buy a ticket for a chance to win a basket of items donated by the merchants of the Downtown Edmond Business Association. All proceeds will go to the Fostering Sweet Dreams Foundation. For more information, call: 405-697-4744 or visit fosteringsweetdreams.com

Sue Meyers I grew up in Michigan but have been in Oklahoma for 33 years and love it here. I have lived all over the U.S. but Oklahoma is where I consider home. My first job out of high school was as a cabinet maker. My mother, who was very out of the box in her day, got me the job. My dad always let me hang out with him in his shop in our basement. Growing up with all older brothers and being daddy’s girl I learned a lot of skills women typically do not learn. After working as a cabinet maker I enlisted in the Air Force and became a Missile Systems Analyst analyzing nuclear missile computers and electronic systems. I was the only woman with 82 guys in my shop at my first duty station. I spent 9 years on active duty and four in the Reserves and am a Desert Shield/ Storm veteran. I am also the mother, my greatest job ever, to four beautiful children who are very supportive of their mom even helping me when I have deadlines to meet. They are also highly skilled as I have taught them many of my skills from the time they were little. Even though I have a lot of “men’s skills”….I love being a woman. After leaving the Air Force and then the Reserves I acted as general contractor on our first home. After the concrete and framing was complete I did most of the finishing work. I learned how to weld at the same time and built our ranch’s pipe fences. For my second welding project I built a 70 x 120 Indoor Arena with one other person helping me. I designed the arena, built the frame, all of the stalls, tack room, stocks, etc. I have been privileged to build some really cool projects such as a full-size Star Wars X-Wing Fighter…fully interactive with lights, sound, etc. I only had a small plastic model to use as a guide. After that one I really knew

I could build anything in wood or steel. I have also built a couple full size sleighs. I trained horses for about 20 years but still worked on many projects in the interim building more barns and steel projects. In 2007 I went through a life changing event which led me on a path to do woodworking and welding full time. When the 2013 big 5 tornadoes hit I volunteered full time to help victims rebuild their homes, barns, fences, etc. I started my Disaster Relief Ministry “Rebuild Ministries.” My skills are immense with woodworking, welding, framing, cabinet making, trim work, electrical, plumbing, duct work, insulation, tile, flooring, drywall, concrete countertops, etc. After 22 months in the Disaster Areas I dove deep into the woodworking combining my welding skills to create beautiful furniture. A lot of my work is Live Edge Furniture but I can literally build anything. I have shipped my furniture from the East to the West. Some of my custom work is in corporate offices in Oklahoma City. Some of those are in homes and restaurants right here in Edmond. I entered 6 of my pieces in the woodworking and woodturning in the Oklahoma State Fair. I won three firsts and three seconds including “Superintendents Choice” for one of my tables. I have spent over three decades in woodworking and I cannot state how much I love woodworking, turning, welding, etc. It is definitely my passion. I use part of my profit

to help the homeless, single moms and others who are in need. I love seeing the smiles on my customer’s faces when they see their custom pieces and I love when people appreciate the craftsmanship, creativity and skill that goes into my pieces. I love combining my talents to create artistic unique pieces….creating art with wood and steel. I also make smaller items that are beautiful and unique like artistic pizza cutters and ice-cream scoops. Check out a lot of my creative artistic furniture and items at my new website www.susieqzshop.com.
