Think about it... LibertyFest has many different events generally beginning in June through July 4th. You can volunteer for a few hours and be a part of one of the best events Edmond has to offer. It's Fun And Easy!
Since the start of LibertyFest in 1972, our town has celebrated the Fourth of July with grandeur through our American spirit. This year, we are excited to introduce new ideas and changes while continuing the traditions set by our predecessors. I thank our volunteers and sponsors for their continued support. Today, volunteer leaders have come together to put on the 51st LibertyFest festival. We look forward to seeing all generations come together to celebrate our great nation.
May we all look to preserve liberty through the study of our nation’s history and come together to celebrate our similarities and differences. As a wise inscription at the National Archives Museum proclaims, "The heritage of the past is the seed that brings forth the harvest of the future."
I hope to see you at one of our patriotic LibertyFest events as we celebrate “Our America, Spanning the Generations.”
Highest Regards,
Dr. Eriech Tapia LibertyFest President 202314

On July 19, 2022, 38-yearold, Edmond Police Sergeant. C.J. Nelson tragically lost his life in the line of duty.
C.J. joined the Edmond Police department on July 20,
2009, after serving 2 years as a police officer in his home state of Hawaii. A proud member of the Edmond Police SWAT team, and Motorcycle unit, C.J. loved interacting with our community, and especially loved showing off and explaining his police motorcycle. C.J. volunteered each year to help organize safety for the parade and help lead the motorcycle unit at the beginning of the parade. When he wasn’t serving Edmond, he could be found spending time at his gym, and was an avid member of CrossFit. Above everything, C.J. adored his two children,
to me. She is the reason I joined LibertyFest several years ago and inspired me to run for office. I am heartbroken and will miss our long conversations about LibertyFest.”
-LibertyFest President Eriech TapiaEmily, and Connor, and his wife Jenefer. The Edmond Police Department, the City of Edmond, and the Edmond community are indebted to C.J. Nelson and his family for their sacrifice. Sergeant Nelson’s passing leaves a hole in the lives of those who loved him, and in the community of Edmond that will never be filled. 519 EOW 7-19-22.
LibertyFest lost one of its longest and most dedicated committee members this year. It was heartbreaking for us and the community.
"We are heartbroken to learn that June Cartwright passed away. For years June headed up our public relations team. In 2002 and 2009, June served as our president. She worked tirelessly to make sure our events happened, always serving with a smile. She was a mother
June would bring her committee members a treat either during the planning of LibertyFest or right after it was over to thank them for their contribution. It was usually a homemade sweet like cookies or fudge. And there was always a handwritten note thanking each person specifically for what they had helped her with that year.
As the newspaper that publishes the official LibertyFest program and guide, she collaborated with our staff for the last 18 years to produce the publication. Instead of wasting her time with the guy in charge, she would go to the back of our office where all the folks who
do the real work at this paper sit. She knew them all by name and all about their families. She always brought treats for the entire office as well.
Our staff loved working with June. She was fun and made things easy on us. She could push a deadline from time to time but always with love and kindness in gathering the information from the other LibertyFest committee members and getting it to us.
We will miss our friend and Edmond will miss her contributions. The good news is that so many of us had the privilege of working with June Cartwright that we learned how to just get things done.
Her lessons included not to worry about who got credit just make the project or event you are working on the best it can be and always take care of our community.

It is time once again for Edmond to host the largest and certainly the best 4th of July festival in the State of Oklahoma and beyond, LibertyFest. It is now beginning its 51st year of celebration and no community celebrates their patriotism like Edmond folks. It is an honor that Edmond Life & Leisure has once again been selected to produce this official program for LibertyFest. We look forward to seeing you at all the magnificent events for this fantastic 51st year of celebration.
We also owe a giant thank you to Citizen’s Bank of Edmond for being the Premiere sponsor for this big event. "LibertyFest is truly one of the best line-up of celebrations in Oklahoma. “Citizens Bank of Edmond is proud to be a headlining sponsor of LibertyFest and we look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors at the events throughout our community, celebrating our great nation,” said Citizens Bank of Edmond CEO, Jill Castilla. Castilla will be this year’s parade marshal. She has brought security and soundness to the oldest, locally owned bank in Edmond as well as recognition and innovation from around the nation.
Edmond’s July 4th Festival is a non-profit 501(c)3 operation made up of individual volunteers from the Edmond area. Its purpose is to produce a series of family-oriented events around the 4th of July to celebrate the birthday of this great nation and the heritage of Oklahoma. As the host city of LibertyFest, Edmond highlights a series of events that help enhance the quality of life in Edmond, show pride in the community, support for non-profit and civic organizations, and provide educational opportunities.
The big heroes for LibertyFest are all the volunteers. They contribute hundreds of hours to making this weeklong celebration easy for Edmond to enjoy. The work and planning for LibertyFest events go on year-round. Volunteers take time away from their families and other responsibilities to make sure we all have a pleasant and safe experience at these events.
We have lost some longtime members of the volunteer team for LibertyFest including our beloved June Cartwright. For over thirty years she has brought so much to the planning and organization of the celebration. We miss you June!
We wish you and your family a safe and happy Fourth of July and hope you will join us in our Edmond LibertyFest Celebration. It is certainly a fitting tribute to our fine nation. It is one of the best celebrations in our great United States. Our family looks forward to seeing you along the parade route and at all the other events.

Today, individuals across our nation are celebrating a significant milestone in the history of America – the day our nation declared its independence. The Fourth of July is a day to honor our Founding Fathers, whose courage and vision laid the foundation for the freedoms and democracy we have today.
As one of the state’s first higher education institutions, we celebrate the diversity of our community and the values that bind us together – freedom of thought, expression and the pursuit of knowledge. We are committed to contributing to our country’s future by helping our students become engaged citizens who think critically and understand the power their voices can have in shaping our future, one that will span generations to come.
As an integral part of the Edmond community, the University of Central Oklahoma has been a proud contributor to the citizenry of this great state for 133 years – we look forward to the next century together. From the sounds of the patriotic anthems played by the musicians in the concert on the Central campus, to the parade that winds its way through the heart of our city today, ending the celebration with the delight of brightly colored fireworks bursting in the air above, we wish you a safe and happy Independence Day with your friends and family.

In its 10th season, Heard on Hurd is credited for sparking the revitalization of downtown Edmond and has resulted in more than $65 million of economic impact to the Edmond community. Jill also developed Edmond’s first and largest co-working space, Vault 405, to support small businesses and entrepreneurs. Vault 405 recently celebrated its fifth anniversary and remains a thriving and growing community. Jill, in partnership with the Independent Shopkeepers Association, established RiSE, Retail Incubator for the Shopkeeper Experience, this program provides shopkeepers an opportunity to set up a pop-up retail space for a nominal fee to experience the process of maintaining and operating a physical retail space.
As a pathway to economic mobility and educational progression, Jill enlisted as a Private in the U.S. Army at 19. She continued to serve in the Oklahoma Army National Guard as a construction surveyor and, later, as a civil
engineer. Upon marrying a U.S. Army officer, Jill relocated to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where she completed a B.S.B.A. in Finance at Hawaii Pacific University. As President and CEO of Citizens Bank of Edmond, Jill continued to support her husband’s units as a military spouse. Jill was nominated by former Senate Armed Forces Chairman, Senator Jim Inhofe, to serve as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army. Inducted in 2019 and reporting directly to the Secretary of the Army in two administrations, Jill continues to serve the U.S. Army in this three-star protocol role.
