SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, MAY 27TH BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM REJOICING IN RESTORATION Father of the Afflicted Scripture: Psalm 34:1-10, Hebrews 2:5-18 A Christian girl soaks her pillow with tears. Her prom date drives away with another girl who won't refuse him. An unemployed father hangs his head in shame, Christmas won't seem so merry because he refused to lie for the good of his company. A faithful family spends another night in the shelter, speaking publicly about one's Christian faith is not welcomed in their village. The apostle Paul referred to himself and the other apostles in very unflattering terms, as the "scum of the world (I Corinthians 4:13). Through the years, many followers of Jesus have felt much the same. They stuck to their faith whether popular or not. They have proclaimed Christ unswervingly even when it led to abandonment, poverty, and homelessness. This world does not claim them. It does not appreciate their integrity and commitment to purity and truth. But God claims them. He recognizes them as his children, for he is the father of the afflicted. In the midst of rejection and scornful treatment from the world, it can be hard to sense God's parental love. We are more likely to feel anger and resentment. In times like these, we can know that the pain is only temporary. We are encouraged by those who have been there and persevered. We can use examples like David and Jesus, who faced affliction, experienced God's favor, and left behind a powerful witness and testimony. Jim West will teach this comforting lesson. Come early to hear and enjoy Fretta Moore at the piano at 9:15.

VESPERS THURSDAY, MAY 24TH 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL Villa Voices will present their Annual End-of-The Year Musical program.

VESPERS THURSDAY, MAY 27TH 3:30 PM BRILL CHAPEL Vespers speaker will be Rev. Jessica Higgins, Epworth Villa Chaplain. 5

INQUIRING MINDS FRENCH IMPRESSIONIST PART 4 MONDAY, MAY 28TH 7:14 PM WELLNESS CENTER MODERATOR: FRANS VANANTWERPEN After the Group of Impressionists split apart, Durand Ruel, a French art dealer stepped in. He had always believed in Impressionism and acquired many of their paintings. In an effort to sell the paintings, he organized an art show in New York City in 1886. This show was the breakthrough for the Impressionists who were now able to enjoy the rewards of their long labors. But for how long would they enjoy it?

THANK YOU RESIDENTS & STAFF The Art and Craft Show is behind us, and what a great event it was Even more people participated this year than two years ago. We had an enormous variety from Epworth Villa’s staff and “old” and new residents, all displaying their talents. A big thank you to all involved in helping out in many ways to make it happen I received lots of compliments from visitors and residents about the artistic quality we have here at Epworth Villa. Again, thank you to everyone who gave their time and talent, and to the ones who visited the show, to bring us all closer together, sharing what we can do within our Epworth Villa community Would it not be great for anyone creative to get busy and use our fully equipped art and quilting rooms to start creating new art and crafts for the next show? Sonja V., Resident *A BIG THANK YOU GOES TO SONJA FOR ORGANIZING AND COORDINATING THE ART SHOW. IT COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT YOU 6

Thank you to each of you that donated, not only clothing but so willingly helped out delivering clothes from the floor lounges to the collection room. The room was filled from wall to wall. Skyline is always so grateful for Epworth Villa's amount and quality of donations. Your thoughtfulness has truly helped Skyline reach their goal of "Impacting lives, empowering those in need, and addressing the roots of poverty in Oklahoma". Their director, Rev. Deborah Ingraham, will be our Vesper speaker on June 14. Plan to come hear her Skyline "story". Your donations are a part of it. Religious Life Committee
