MISS BROWN TO YOU FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5TH 7:00 PM GRAND BALLROOM Mary Reynolds and Louise Goldberg who make up the duo of Miss Brown To You like to perform folk ballads from the misty hills of Kentucky or a sophisticated jazz standard heard through a New York doorway. Steamy blues from New Orleans, circa 1920, or a swinging two step at the dance hall, where Bob Wills is on the stand, or a samba igniting the hills of Rio de Janeiro. Miss Brown to You refuses to be confined to one style or one period. Instead they prefer to the horizon of every genre they play, even while upholding the traditions of the musicians that have inspired them in the past. http://www.epworthvilla.org/events/ Click link for past issues of Epworth Villa Happenings

SUNDAY SCHOOL SUNDAY, OCTOBER 7th BRILL CHAPEL 9:30 AM
GOD DESTROYS AND RE-CREATES
Genesis 6:9b-21
Control-Alt-Delete Many of us have become familiar with a term that would seem nonsensical before 1981: Control-Alt-Delete. When a Windows-based computer freezes up and you can't do anything or just can't stand to wait, the keystroke combination Control-Alt-Delete will bring up the Task Manager. That feature allows the user to shut down a frozen program or reboot the operating system; for Mac users, the equivalent is Command-Option-Esc. In a perfect world, computers would always run without a hitch. But since we don't live in a perfect world, we sometimes have to stop and start over when a system doesn't do what it's supposed to. Our lesson this week involves a “Control-Alt-Delete” scenario from early history. God had created a perfect world, and he created humans to share it sinlessly with him. But Adam and Eve spoiled the system by eating the forbidden fruit. That started history's downward spiral. God realized the only way forward was a reboot, a fresh start with a renewed creation. Come early to hear our own Fretta Moore bless us with her piano mastery of the hymns at 9:15am. Tracy Wilson will lead this lesson.

She explains everything you need to know to host an authentic Southern funeral, such as: “Can you be properly buried without tomato aspic?” “Who prepares the tastier funeral food, the Methodists or the Episcopalians?” Even if you haven’t been born south of Omaha (NE), this book will charm and entertain. HOLIDAY GIFT CAMPAIGN IS UNDERWAY Did you lock your fob in your apartment? Again! Aren't you grateful for those gracious security people? We see them walking the halls, driving around the campus, or staffing the desk, keeping us safe. But did you know they are often called to serve above and beyond the call of duty? One resident decided to vacuum one evening and suddenly the belt on her vacuum cleaner broke. Fortunately, she had an extra. Unfortunately, when she tried to install it, she wasn't strong enough to stretch it to fit. What to do? Call security! And sure enough, he came, put on the belt and put the vacuum cleaner back together. Thank you security. Another resident told of coming home and finding a bird in her cottage. What to do? Call security. And he came and chased the bird until it flew out. Thank you security! Our staff often goes above and beyond the call of duty (or their job description) to help us. Do you have a story to share? I won't be using names, just the situation where a staff person from any department went "above and beyond". Call me at 623-3759. In the meantime, give generously to the Holiday Gift Fund so we can let our staff know in a tangible way how much they are appreciated. Checks may be made out to ‘Resident Association’ and placed in mail-box # 326. Jimette M. Chair, Holiday Gift Committee

I CAN ONLY IMAGINE Poignant faith-based drama about a hit song's inspiration. Although he found faith at a young age, life wasn’t easy for this composer. A troubled home life and a career-ending football injury along with an influential teacher pushed him into a music pathway. He hit the road in an old decrepit tour bus chasing a dream with a new band entitled Mercy Me. The band begins a journey none of them could ever have imagined illustrating that no one is ever too far from God’s forgiveness and love. RATINGS: PG Run Time 1hr 50min
EVTV MOVIE WILL BE SHOWN On EVTV Channel 1960 SAT. 7:00 PM AND WED. 8:00 PM SAT., OCTOBER 6TH AND WED., OCTOBER 10TH
THE MONUMENTS MEN During World War II, the Nazis steal countless pieces of art and hide them away. Some over-the-hill art scholars, historians, architects and other experts form a unit to retrieve as many of the stolen masterpieces as possible. The mission becomes even more urgent when the team learns about Hitler's "Nero Decree," which orders destruction of the artworks if the Third Reich falls. Caught in a race against time, the men risk their lives to protect some of mankind's greatest achievements.
