Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium Saturday, October 21, 2017 • 8 pm Tuesday, October 24, 2017 • 7:30 pm Friday, October 27, 2017 • 7:30 pm AN INTENSE ROMANTIC DRAMA After 30 years as an iconic work of Canadian theatre, Quebec playwright Michel Marc Bouchard’s Les Feluettes (Lilies) premiered as an opera at Opéra de Montréal in 2016. Praised by critics and audiences for its lush, romantic music, Lilies explores a passionate love story between two young men in early 1900s Quebec. Innocence quickly turns into deception and murder as the star-crossed lovers struggle through their feelings against the norms of society. Kevin March’s lavish and cinematic score “harkens to 19th century Romantic composers” (Times Argus), featuring “waltzes, old-timey songs, French Canadian folk tunes and quotes from Claude Debussy” (Times Colonist). The highly anticipated Alberta premiere of Lilies is the perfect celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary — don’t miss the opera that received standing ovations from Montreal and Victoria audiences! Sung in French with projected English translation Featuring the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra Join us for complimentary Opera Talks in the lower-level lobby 45 minutes before curtain. A HILARIOUS MUSICAL ADVENTURE Set sail on the voyage of a lifetime with the quirky crew of hms Pinafore! This worldwide favourite Gilbert and Sullivan operetta puts a nautical spin on the classic “boy meets girl, girl’s grumpy father gets in the way” story. When lower-class sailor Ralph Rackstraw falls in love with Josephine, the Captain’s daughter, mayhem ensues as the two lovebirds try to elope… while at sea! Edmonton Opera presents a delightful production of this topsy-turvy journey, reimagined in the extravagant 1920s Jazz Age by Cinderella director Robert Herriot. With jazzy new musical arrangements and foot tapping choreography, you are invited for an evening of spectacular entertainment aboard the hms Pinafore! Sung in English with projected lyrics Featuring the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra Join us for complimentary Opera Talks in the lower-level lobby 45 minutes before curtain. Often regarded as the crowning masterpiece of Mozart’s Italian repertoire, Don Giovanni combines elements of comedy, tragedy, and the supernatural in a riveting theatrical experience. Baritone Phillip Addis, adored by Edmonton audiences as Figaro in 2014’s The Barber of Seville, will bring his “physically commanding, vocally authoritative energy” (Opera Canada) as Mozart’s mysterious hero. Featuring stylish designs by Bretta Gerecke and Deanna Finnman, this bold new production of Don Giovanni promises to steal audiences’ hearts.
