STAND with BURKE

THE CAMPAIGN FOR EDMUND BURKE SCHOOL

STAND UP FOR WHAT BURKE STANDS FOR. There are moments in life that require us to stand up for our beliefs.

Fifty years ago, in the midst of turmoil in Washington, D.C., Burke was born from one of these moments. And the same beliefs that inspired our founders remain equally important today. Intellect. Inclusion. Integrity. Respect for the dignity and humanity of all people. And the responsibility to make the world more just.

For decades, Burke has given students the knowledge and courage to stand up and make positive contributions to the world. Now that Burke is 50 years old, it’s time to ensure that we’re here for at least another 50 years by updating our campus and strengthening our long-term financial outlook. We invite you to join us and stand up for what Burke means to you.

WE LOVE OUR LOCATION IN WASHINGTON, D.C. AND WE WOULDN’T WANT TO BE ANYWHERE ELSE. The city is an important part of our identity and our curriculum. And we want to make the most of our campus, especially the historic Mooskin-Roth Hall. The chief goal of the Stand with Burke Campaign is to optimize our space, allowing for more effective student collaboration and conversation while keeping Burke competitive in the world of D.C. independent schools.

STAND UP FOR OUR FUTURE.

Burke has come a long way – from 17 students in a rented townhouse to a student body of 300 on a campus straddling two buildings. Over the years, parents and friends have given generously, but now it’s time to stand up and solidify Burke’s financial stability for the future. With a more robust culture of philanthropy, we can continue to make curricular and physical improvements, retain and attract expert teachers, and secure our place as a leader in progressive education.

The Annual Fund Like most independent schools, tuition alone does not cover the true cost of a Burke education. The Annual Fund is an essential source of flexible funds that ensures we can deliver all the hallmarks of a Burke education: An advisory program that ensures all students are known and well-supported Faculty and staff who are experts in their subject matter and adolescent development

We designed the Stand with Burke Campaign to include annual giving. This ensures that we can continue to maintain and grow our current programs while raising funds for renovation. Therefore, all gifts to the Annual Fund throughout the course of the campaign will be counted towards Stand with Burke.

Rich arts and athletic programs An innovative learning environment that fosters an intrinsic love of learning and includes advanced technology, field trips, and student-directed projects Social justice woven into the curriculum at every level

STAND UP FOR OUR STUDENTS. Burke has always focused on the whole student, believing that emotional, social, and physical well-being are crucial to academic success. The Stand with Burke Campaign and your generosity will provide new spaces for students to play and work together, allowing athletes to build strength, friends to enjoy a spontaneous game of basketball, and classmates to work on projects outside.

The Side Yard This outdoor courtyard will be a great place for pick-up basketball or some al fresco studying.

Fitness Center No longer confined behind temporary dividers, a new, safe, and state-of-theart training center will elevate students’ athletic performance.

Locker Rooms

Athletics Office

Modern, welcoming, and clean locker rooms will allow our student-athletes to stay focused on the competition.

Coaches will have space to manage teams; meet with students and parents; and oversee students in the adjacent gym, fitness center, and new Bengal Den.

STAND UP FOR OUR COMMUNITY. In Burke’s lively and inclusive community, students and faculty learn from one another through conversation and collaboration. Our goal is to build more gathering places into our campus to enhance the strong relationships between students and faculty and amongst classmates.

The Amphitheater In the front of Mooskin-Roth Hall, the new entryway will feature beautiful and inviting landscaping, add a new outdoor classroom, and enhance ADA accessibility into the building.

The Bengal Den Previously unused space in the lower level of Mooskin-Roth Hall, the Bengal Den will include tables and chairs, newly installed windows, and lounge furniture for student dining, dialogue, and studying during the day.

There was a time that you needed Burke, and now, Burke needs you. “There was a time that

you needed Burke, and now, Burke needs you.

“Each one of you has made Burke the school we hoped it would be. Please join us to ensure that the school you helped us build is positioned to thrive for another 50 years.”

DICK ROTH AND JEAN MOOSKIN, BURKE’S FOUNDERS

INNOVATION “We’ve been so fortunate to have found a school where kids are known and valued for exactly who they are, where learning is engaging, and where every child has the opportunity to develop as an academic, an athlete, an artist, and an activist.

PROGRESS

We’re proud to stand with Burke and give back to the school that has done so much for our families.”
