Dear EDSA Friends and Colleagues,
The 45th EDSA Meeting & 8th EDSA Congress took place in Bucharest, Romania during the second week of March, 2010. The attendance for the event was more than 350 students from 21 different countries around the world, thanks to the good promotion made by the Local Organizing Committee. Special thanks to the organizers – led by Cristina and to the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” Bucharest, Faculty of Dentistry. We were honored to welcome representatives of important dental associations, who shared their ideas and experience with us: • Association of Dental Education from Europe (ADEE): Prof. Winfried Harzer – President, Prof. Damien Walmsley - Treasurer • European Federation of Periodontology (EFP): Prof. Uros Skaleric • World Dental Federation (FDI): Dr. Gerhard Seeberger – President Elect ERO (European Regional Organization) • Association of Basic Science Teachers in Dentistry (ABSTD): Dr. Andreea Didilescu – Senior Lecturer The EDSA also collaborates with other students’ associations. In Bucharest we had the pleasure to have with us representatives of: • International Association of Dental Students (IADS): Pavel Scarlat – International Scientific Officer • European Pharmaceuticals Students' Association (EPSA): Tomaso Piaggio – President and Fokion Sinis – Vicepresident. Partner representatives from Colgate, GC Europe, Planmeca, Listerine and Procter&Gamble showed the interest to work with us and held presentations about the latest developments in the dental field. With the support of W&H and GC Europe we managed to organize a hands-on class, which was highly appreciated by the EDSA delegates. We hope to continue working together with them and develop new projects.

We thank all of them very much for their involvement and for all the support given to EDSA. Discussions about the current EDSA projects and potential new ideas were held. Students were distributed among different working groups and together managed to establish common ideas as follows: The new issue of the EDSA Magazine was presented and distributed among all the delegates attending the event. With the support of the Wiley-Blackwell publishing house, the publication will reach the European dental schools as well. Congratulations to the hard-working team who made this possible: Andrew Sullivan, Quynh Nguyen, Neja Jurjec, Chris Wooldridge and all the Delegates and partners sent in articles. The EDSA Prevention program coordinated by Ana Stevanovic is ready to be implemented and will start with a pilot dental school - Leeds, UK in June 2010. The working group on Dental Ethics gathered again and discussed all the steps of the project and established the dental schools that are going to be involved. The project is developed in close cooperation with the World Dental Federation (FDI). The scientific program will include introduction to the Minimal Intervention (MI) Treatment dental procedures, the same topic as the 1st edition. The content of the Dental Guide Manual was revised by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) and with the support of ADEE and Colgate, W&H, Planmeca and Saratoga 3000 copies of this Manual are in production now and all European dental schools will soon receive up to 10 copies. The joint project with E-Human is ready to be implemented, students interested in participating received the CDs and the online survey is ready to get their feedbacks. The EDSA Volunteer Work working group continued the discussions and is focusing more on the implementation of the project in Brazil. A new potential project, Research activities, was discussed. The EDSA would like to work together with the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) and create a database of European and American dental schools that are ready to receive and send students for a one month period, in order to share experience and ideas and to improve cooperation. The EDSA General Assembly approved the active participation of EDSA during the ADEE Meeting in Amsterdam with 3 Special Interest Groups: "Student and Staff Mobility", "Current problems of European dental students", continuing the work of the past year, and also with a new topic - “Dental Ethics”. The EDSA Vision Song Contest was an interesting event and all the countries managed to show their talents on the scene. For the first time, Romania was the winner, Russia and Austria being the first and second runners-up.
