The first printed edition of the EDSA Magazine in 3 years was presented and distributed due to the successful collaboration with the publishing house Blackwell-Wiley. Congratulations to the hard-working team who made this possible: Marija, Andrew, Maja and Plamen and to the vigorous Delegates whose articles were published. All students throughout Europe should have already received the Summer edition of the EDSA Magazine and appreciated the amazing job you have done. Pilot copies of the Dental Guide Manual were presented and it is a privilege that this publication gained the support of the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE), and the dental companies: W&H, Planmeca and Saratoga. 3000 copies of this Manual are in production now and all European dental schools will receive up to 10 copies by the end of October.

After many years of close cooperation, a joint project with E-Human was initiated where all dental students throughout Europe will gain free access to their software, a teaching aid in the dental educational process. The EDSA Volunteer Work established a few potential sites to focus on for Summer 2010 among which are Parma de Majorca, Brazil, Serbia and Tanzania. The EDSA Prevention program will start with a trial dental school, which will be most probably Leeds, UK, this autumn and after its evaluation, the program will be introduced to more dental schools. Working group on Dental Ethics gathered for the very first time and discussed the introduction of Ethics Theme day in one pilot school this autumn. The project will be held in close cooperation with the World Dental Federation (FDI). EDSA has also finalized all details regarding the first Training for dental students in the headquarters of GC Europe in Leuven, Belgium. The event will take place during the first weekend of December and the scientific program will include introduction to the Minimal Intervention (MI Treatment) dental procedures. Worth-mentioning is the active participation of EDSA representatives during the 35th ADEE Annual Meeting. Two Special Interest Groups were held on topics "Student and Staff Mobility" and "Current problems of European dental students", which will continue their work next year in Amsterdam by proposing possible strategies on improving the exchanges and students' environment.

EDSA Executive Committee 2008-09, Emiliya, Vedran, Irina, Brian, Marija, Sebi and Lena
Once we entered the exhibition hall, we were shocked by the vast area filled by dental companies. We knew that the forthcoming days are going to demand a lot of hard, but fun work . Numerous meetings with company representatives were scheduled as we progressed through the fair.
Girls just wanna have fun!
However, some appointments were planned beforehand. For instance, we met Europe's manager for Colgate, Richard and for GABA, Robert in a cosy restaurant on our first evening. Not only was the food delicious, it was also agreed upon a prolonged sponsorship from Colgate. Furthermore, we were lucky to attain same positive result with W&H. Those are necessary funds, without which EDSA could not persist!
Another highlight of the visit was the meeting with the management for GC, where promising results were achieved. The very first Training for dental students is going to take place in December in the GC headquarters in Belgium. Official meetings, also, took place with Wrigley's, Zhermack, Kerr, and the EDSA Magazine publisher Blackwell-Wiley. Furthermore, we had official meeting with FDI Executive Director and Board Members, where several joint projects were put on the table for further discussions. The management of IDS were introduced to us, and whilst enjoying a stunning view over the town in a skyscraper, we were promised a booth on the forthcoming IDS in 2011. This will allow EDSA to reach more companies and students on future fairs, thus giving EDSA an even more profound name.

ager & Meisinger Hands-on Training in Oral Implantology
During the last years, Hager & Meisinger company has been organizing hands-on workshops in dental implantology for German dental students. Recently, EDSA has started cooperation with the company and got a chance to send one representative to the workshop which took place in D?sseldorf from the 2nd to 6th September 2009.
This Hager & Meisinger event was also a place for promotion of European dental students' association among German students. As an EDSA representative, I had a chance to give a presentation on EDSA projects and events and present the new issue of EDSA Magazine. Within the social part of the programme, different activities, such as barbecue, skiing in an indoor ski hall and dinner in a traditional German restaurant, were organized.
EDSA Newsletter I Summer-autumn Edition 2009
Hager & Meisinger hands-on training was an excellent opportunity for gaining a deeper insight into procedures in oral implantology and improving students' basic surgical skills. As a result of cooperation between EDSA and Hager & Meisinger company, hands-on workshops in English and at reasonable prices should be offered to students from different European countries in the near future.
The basic knowledge in the field of dental implantology was provided in the form of lectures given by German and Swiss lecturers. The first two days of the course were devoted to history and development of dental implant surgery, minimally invasive approach, computer-guided implant placement, old and new techniques and materials as well as indications for their use. In addition, plenty of interesting clinical cases were shown. Knowledge acquired during the lectures was applied in the practical part of the course while working on animal tissue samples. Students were divided into small groups and had a chance to practice different suturing techniques in oral surgery, baloon-assisted sinusfloor elevation, bone spreading and bone splitting, work with devices for piezoelectric surgery, placing implants and taking impressions. In the end, students received certificates upon successful completion of the course.

uring 6-9 May in the Palace of Culture and Sport, Varna was held the 14th Congress of Balkan Stomatological Society and 9th Scientific Congress of Bulgarian Dental Association. The chancellor of our university - Prof. Anelia Klisarova, MD, PhD, DSc was president of the Local Organizing Committee so many of the students from Dental Medicine Student Association - Varna were able to participate in entire organization of the event. The Scientific program of the congress included lectures on Prosthodontics. Prevention dentistry, Orthodontics, Pediatric dentistry, Periodontology, Oral and Maxillofacial surgery and Endodontics. Actually we were able to attend various presentations in different fields of dental medicine distributed in two lecture halls. At the time of the congress there were four sessions of poster presentations, presenting 352 studies. Dental exhibition of the congress introduced to the dental medicine society on the Balkan Peninsula with the latest technical and pharmacological products.
After all the presentations and lectures one lesson came to the surface. All presenters, doctors, and students came to the conclusion that is unwritten law and is the modern aspect of dental medicine - it is necessary a complete healing-plan, responding to the contemporary requirements. That impose upon dental medicine doctors to have plentiful amount of knowledge in general medicine as well as in dental medicine. Only this conception will give the patients long-lasting, functionallyfitted, and aesthetic treatment.

11 "stuDENT" 2009, BUCHAREST, ROMANIA
L
eague of Students in Dental Medicine Bucharest holds each year, at the end of March, an International Congress for students and young doctors. The 8th Edition of congress - "stuDENT 2009" took place between 26th and 29th of March and hosted 300 national students and 100 young dentists who had the opportunity to update their medical knowledge during the 2 days of the event. The main aim of this scientific event was to put together hundreds of students who manifest their interest and thirst for medical sciences in dentistry. All of these have in common their eager to implement or to take part of research programs, to present results obtained at the end of their projects and they want to communicate to others notable aspects useful in their practice, all these being made without neglecting their daily classes. Their work reveals details and results that bring an important contribution to progress in dentistry, everything being done under the mentoring and supervision of the professors of the university that they represent.
EDSA Newsletter I Summer-autumn Edition 2009
On the other hand, students are informed about new material, techniques and devices that are meant to raise the efficiency in practice and to perform an optimal treatment to patients. Workshops, lectures and presentations were offered to participants to enrich their medical education. Young doctors benefited of all these activities, being in the same time a chance for them to keep in touch with the academic world.
LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA
T
he congress programme included as well lectures from different fields in dentistr y like oral implantology, pedodontics, oral-maxillo-facial surgery and medical imagistic, presented by great personalities in dentistry world in Romania and not only. Particular clinical cases, special methods of treatment and highly professional techniques were exposed in detail, thus playing an important role in students' formation as a future top practitioner. Even if the scientific sections kept students hours in the amphitheatre, local organizing team prepared also relaxing activities, parties in popular clubs and teambuilding activities in order to stimulate participants to develop new friendships and to make connections between students representing different university centers. The award ceremony and official closing dinner took place at a grand hotel in Bucharest and brought together students, great professors and mentors as well as dental companies staff. Next year edition of the congress will be a special version of "stuDENT": 8th EDSA Congress will be hosted by the League of Student in Dental Medicine Bucharest. n Slovenia we have a very good organized student organisation SIDSIC (Slovenian dental student's int. committee). On our web side students can find literature for exams, experiences from older students, message board etc.. We make life more interesting for our students with different activities during the whole year. At the beginning of the year we had elections and SIDSIC got new leadership with president Andreja Kra?ovec. We are doing our best to continue with great work previous headship started. So, what do we do beside study dentistry? In winter time we started with organising night sledding in Kranjska Gora. In March EDSA & IADS meeting held place in Ljubljana as well. We are trying our best to make study of dentistry more interesting. We would like to connect our students so they would feel more relaxed at our faculty. Our main goal is everyone would feel great being a part of big happy dental family.
There were 28 scientific presentations registered, divided in Preclinical and Clinical sections. Students had to choose between Romanian and English to perform their oral presentations, those who prepared an English version were given special prizes. Students were encouraged to make a remarkable presentation, the prizes given at the end of the event being a good motivation. All the scientific works were evaluated by 5 members committee, one for each section, represented by university professors and lecturers. There were chosen 3 projects per section that received prizes for their applicability in practice and useful contribution to the progress in dental field. In addition, the general sponsor of the congress decided to give a special prize the most impor tant prevention project presented. Congress coordinators: Mariana Caramida, 3rd year dental student Alina Dragomir, 5th year dental student
Visit us on the web www.sidsic.com.
After that motivation weekend happened like every year before. 50 students went into mountain cottage and we spent wonderful time together. The main point was to encourage fresher to become active in SIDSIC and to get to know each other better. In the morning we had different activities connected with EDSA and IADS. In the afternoon we had winter games involving sledding and parties in the evenings. It was really unforgettable Twice we changed our lecture room into the cinema. We spent evening watching a movie together. Once we organised bowling and for the first time we organized student theme parties. We started with "Black & White" party and continue with "Red love" party. Participants had to dress up into colours connected with the main theme. We really had fun.

13 DUBLIN DENTAL SCHOOL & HOSPITAL
T
rinity Dental Hospital has been a busy place since January, and naturally enough it hasn't all been hard work!!
Firstly we had the annual Irish Dental Ball, where the students from the dental hospitals of Belfast, Dublin and Cork all came together in Cork for the weekend. There was a night out organised for the first night and then the following morning we all dragged ourselves out of bed to attend a couple of informative talks and to get our hands on as much of the dental 'goodies' being given away as possible. The weekend ended in great style with everyone looking their best at the ball. It was a night not to forget for those who could remember it!! Continuing on from before Christmas, the DOVE committee organised a number of events aimed at raising money to send the 4th years away on elective during the summer. One of the more memorable nights organised was the Oscars night, whereby a number of awards were presented to the select few who were considered by their peers to be the 'elite' within the college. The 4th years travelled far and wide during the summer, with some going to Thailand, some to Morocco, while a brave/foolish few decided to risk Swine Flu by going to South and Central America.
Within the hospital during the last year there has been a movement away from paper charts towards electronic charting. This progression has been met with a mixed response, as some of the students have initially found the computer system a little complicated and confusing. However, as the year came to an end, students seemed to be becoming more comfortable with it. There are also plans afoot to refurbish and reorganise the hospital, some of the more interesting plans include the updating and relocation of the library and the reorganisation of some of the clinical areas. There are also plans to increase the size of the common room as at the moment there is inadequate space for students and staff to sit comfortably and eat their meals. Since the last EDSA meeting, Mo, Brian and myself have continued to promote the EDSA to our class mates and also to the staff within the hospital. There has been a lot of interest and there is a widespread belief that being actively involved in Europe and sharing information is both beneficial and important. We are looking at ways to encourage people to take part in the summer scheme in the future. With summer exams on the horizon the students needed distractions to help fight off the stress and we weren't short of these distractions. Firstly, the hospital football team progressed all the way to the Trinity cup final, where they regained the trophy winning the match 8-0, the celebrations started straight away and continued long into the night. There was also the Trinity Ball, which marks the end of the academic year for most students in Trinity, many top bands performed at it, and it was a great success. Finally, there was 'Finals Night', this is a night out to celebrate the final year students finishing their exams, and we all celebrated long and hard with them. It has been a very busy 6 months!! In March we attended the EDSA meeting with Lisa Tan, who is now an ex-delegate now to our dissapointment. This was our first meeting. From January we became the new representatives of ACTA. It was a good opportunity for us to meet many people of several European countries. The LOC was very hospitable and everything was very well organized. In short: we expected to have a wonderful time and this meeting surpassed our expectations, so our admiration and respect goes out to the LOC of Ljubjana.

he following day we guided them through our school, during the elections day, a day in which Greek students elect representatives for various school committees. As the university is closed this day, we only managed to show them the building and to guide them trough the campus (in an extremely hot day). Afterwards we went out for some more traditional food and drinks and also for coffee in Panorama, one of the best places in Thessaloniki with a great view of the city and the sunset. During the next day the group visited places near Thessaloniki, some very nice beaches in Chalkidiki returning back at night. Friday was the last working day, so we rotated with them in the various clinics and laboratories of the school, discussing how things work here and the various differences between Greek and Romanian schools. Several students and postgraduates presented their line of work and the program in general. We also visited one of the two student clubs were food is served for university students. The group enjoyed Thessaloniki's vivid social nights and the surrounding seas during the next days. The point is that programs like EVP bring close people from the same science although from different countries, letting them know how interestingly similar they are. We really wish that more students will follow them visiting Thessaloniki!
The Romanian group of dental students arrived at Thessaloniki on Tuesday May 12. This was actually the first EVP program we had and we were quite anxious about it. The group consisted of 5 people, 2 guys (Waal and Vlad) and 3 girls (Tara, Helena and Elena) all of them 6th year dental students from Bucharest. We joined them in a traditional Greek tavern on the side of the old port of Thessaloniki at 23.30 and we started talking about the city and our schools, comparing the programs, the hours and the people. They pointed out the nightlife of Thessaloniki and some interesting people they met on the road. It was a common joke that Greek sound like Spanish and that Thessaloniki has a very warm atmosphere both literally and actually.
