put a lot of time and effort into the project and have really contributed to its success.
The aim of the Smile Project is to provide oral health care and education to non-dental students in the University of Leeds. The first part of the project was to hold a promotional
event,
sponsored

Gamble. We set up a stall in the university union where we signed students up to receive free dental checkups in the Leeds Dental Institute. We also put up posters and handed out flyers and free gifts, including manual toothbrushes, all over the university campus to generate excitement about the project. All the volunteers wore tooth fairy outfits and “smile project” t-shirts to create a fun atmosphere and try to dispel the generic image of the scary, drilling dentist. Behind our stand we played the infamous "I love clinics"

throughout all Europe and EPSA is definitely among the “European training net”; the Individual Mobility Project allows students to work abroad in a paid internship that can be performed within the different areas of pharmaceutical profession. EPSA has continuosly been striving towards cooperation with other students’ associations – such as EDSA – and has been sucessful at achieving that goal. In the upcoming months both EPSA and EDSA will cooperate with each other in different ways – by help spreading each association’s work through different vehicles of information (such as Newsletter, website, etc), by having representatives of each association in
EPSA Office at the PGEU building in Brussels, EPSA is based in Brussels and has its office in the building of the Pharmaceutical Group of European Union (PGEU). The EPSA Vice President of External Affairs works there permanently and lobbies within the European Union to promote the interest of he European pharmacy students. We hold four events during the year, and General Assemblies take place at two of them. EPSA’s main event of the year – Annual Congress – takes place during April, and Autumn Assembly takes place in October. During these events there are held trainings, workshops, scientific poster contests and many interesting lectures given by professionals from different areas among the pharmaceutical profession. Besides the educational part, the congresses also provide our students the experience of feeling the “EPSA Spirit”: Meeting new friends, new cultures, new ways of living… leads you to this amazing feeling of being European!

CROATIAN DENTAL STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES
Since the last issue of EDSA Newsletter, students of Zagreb School of Dental Medicine were actively participating in various project at the local and international levels. Besides several Tooth Fairy workshops, organised in kingergartens in Zagreb and Split, we developed a project for evaluation and improvement of oral care in intensive care units. Over the past several months we have also been working on setting up a new project aiming to provide an increased awareness of oral hygiene issues for people in retirement homes. In 2010, our dental school started collaboration with an

students' association, I would single out the "Dental Karaoke Party" that took place in November in an Irish pub and gather a number of singing talents.
Participants from the association could improve their knowledge about oral health and their skills of maintaining oral hygiene while students could hear about problems that people with disabilities face in obtaining dental care as well as their suggestions on how to improve services for them. In October we welcomed and hosted a group of international

At the moment our association (USDM) is working hard on organising the 2011 Summer Camp in Zadar, Croatia and organising the 1st Virtual World Congress of Dental Students, taking place online, May 9-11, 2011. The virtual congress will be an excellent chance for students from all parts of the world to attend virtual key note lectures on new technologies in dentistry and flexible learning, to present eOral presentations and ePoster presentations and to be awarded. Best papers will be published in Acta Stomatoogica

AISO MEETING, ITALY The Italian Dental Students Association (AISO) is considered one of the most important students’ groups in Italy. Our association’s strenght is not only related to the power of AISO’s “voice” inside the Italian Dental debate, but is above all connected to the great network which links all our local branches. This “network”, made of people extremely motivated in their activities, reaches its greatest moment during the National Assembly, which was this year hosted in Naples. The city under the Vesuvio is a special place you can’t imagine till you stay there. When you land at the Capodichino Airport you can immediately feel a great

A small crew hit the BDSA Conference this year to rave it up -thank you Cardiff! A bunch of students ventured out to the Alps on an Easter expedition which gave us a great opportunity to try out something a little different with a hangover-skiing! We’ve given the H&T course a little taster of SUDSS with a 3-legged bar crawl and our annual messy pub golf!
The new SUDSS committee were elected in March – congratulations to Ben Veale the new President who made a brilliant decision to kick off with a karaokethemed Handover social with several interesting interpretations of Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing’!
We’re just about to bid farewell to our 5th years as they get their finals results and are preparing a few summer socials along with dental fun for our new batch of Freshers in September! Looking forward to getting more involved with the EDSA!

September 22nd – 26th Day One My travelling partner Aida Ajan and I (Nicole Nova) from Stockholm arrived on a sunny day in Munich airport. We took the train to Bad Endorf and had a nice journey passing the southern countryside of Germany. As we stepped out on the platform one could smell the fresh air of the countryside, and inevitably the obstacle of an internally processed, nutritionally-drained

However, the dinner we got ourselves there before moving on to Seebruck, was indeed the most delicious and gigantic schnitzel I’ve ever had. The taxi-lady drove us to the front-door of the Chiemsee Akademie in Seebruck, and we received a name-tag and the keys to our room in Hotel Post (approximately 7 min walking distance from the academy).

each table. Speaking of huge, the beer glasses holding one liter were so big and heavy I had to use both hands to lift it. I didn’t even finish half of it until the next round of another liter came. Phew! According to an unnamed source the beer had six percent alcohol, so you do the math – plenty of ethanol in peoples’ veins! Anyways, so why this fuzz about the beer? Well, for one thing, it is only made in Munich, and only once a year! In Las Vegas there is an Oktoberfest copy-variant, but they have to import the real beer all the way from Munich to call it an Oktoberfest. Speaking of patenting! Also, this year was the 200th year anniversary!

Day Four Workshops! All of them were really educative. It’s one thing to hear about the different surgical methods, and to have a go on your own! We were divided into groups of about ten people and there were six stations. All groups rotated between the tables, which basically lasted almost the whole day, because we spent about an hour on each station. Implantation – drilling and fixing a Titan screw in a jaw model. We were allowed to keep them as our own. Nice! Sinuslift – on a pig head using the balloon method. Very effective! Later that day, we had a little quiz about what we’ve been taught these past couple of days. I think most people did alright. In the evening there was the endceremony where we received our diplomas and partied for the last time in Seebruck. The hard part was the good-byes of course, but one thing is for certain: we all had an amazing time in Seebruck and will look back on it fondly! Being the first time that Maxillo-Faziale

During the UNECD meeting, we discussed the problem with governement and French Dental Council. All students agree to work a year in a zone lacking dentists, just after our 6th year of studies. This measure will provide 1000 young dentists every year in these zones. It was not an easy decision but we are aware of our role in public health. Furthermore our studies are totally free, so it’s a way to refund society!

The Faculty of Dental Medicine Timisoara is mostly known because of the Prosthodontic Department, but we do not exclude other fields of dental medicine and we would like to establish partnerships in scientific research or other programs with colleagues from other countries. We are also open to the idea of organising
a

our
colleagues from EDSA. The management of the association is assured by president Sorin Mihali, vice president of the director’s office Ciprian Roi, vice president of the executive department Ana-Maria Curtean, secretary Roxana Jicarean and scientific adviser Simina Lugojan-Toma. We are continuing to carry out projects that will help and support the students of Dental Medicine School in Timisoara and in the future we hope to cooperate more with our colleagues from other universities in Romania and abroad and develop together social and scientific programs. .
