COMITATO
LINGUISTICO
ITALIANO PER STRANIERI DAL 1986
History and reputation
The COMITATO LINGUISTICO was founded in 1986 as a non-profit cultural club under the name “Sprachkomitee” for the promotion of the German language in Italian schools in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Embassy in Rome. The name “Sprachkomitee” was then changed to “COMITATO LINGUISTICO”. At the beginning the purpose of the “COMITATO LINGUISTICO” was that of organizing cultural exchange programmes with Germany and Italian language courses for German speaking clubmembers. However, the courses were soon opened to all interested parties and today the COMITATO LINGUISTICO organizes courses exclusively for Italian as a foreign language all year round. Our objective is to teach in a friendly environment with a professional approach. It is very important for us to have personal contact with the students; the administration staff and teachers are always available to offer support and advice. The COMITATO LINGUISTICO is the only member of ASILS in Umbria. Our courses are recognised as “Bildungsurlaub” by the Federal State of Hamburg and meet the requirements of CSN, the Swedish National Board of Student Aid.
Location
The Comitato Linguistico is located in the historical centre in modern, panoramic and well lit facilities with air conditioning in summer and free internet access (WLAN) for our students. All bus routes stop in front of the school, which is just five minutes walk from the famous Corso Vannucci.
Teaching
The tuition is clearly structured and oriented to the Common European Framework of Reference. Modern text books combined with material conceived purposely for our courses are characteristics of our flexible and modern teaching method. Vocabulary work, grammar, phonetics, conversation, games etc. will help you to acquire an indispensable linguistic understanding for your studies or work. The classes of students are small: the average class size is seven, the maximum twelve students per class, which allows our teachers to assist and follow your learning step by step. Each group is taught by two tutors who coordinate with each other. From the very first lesson, the teaching language is Italian, however upon request we can offer tuition in other languages.
Lessons
The lessons are held from Monday to Friday and the duration of each lesson is 50 minutes. On national holidays (06.01, Easter Monday, 25.04, 01.05, 02.06, 15.08, 01.11, 08.12) the school is closed, however lessons are made up. On the first day of the course (from 9.00 o’clock on) we check your understanding of the Italian language which enables us to determine which course is suitable for you. The lessons begin on Tuesday.
Teachers
Our enthusiastic team of qualified, native Italian-speaking teachers will help you to communicate in Italian focusing on your needs and your aims.
Our students
Our school attracts students of all age groups from various countries around the world. The minimum age for enrolment in any course is 16. Younger learners, who must be accompanied by their parents, can attend junior courses that offers lessons suitable for their age.

Perugia is the most beautiful city in Central Italy besides Florence and Rome. It is an ancient hill town with spectacular views across Umbria and it is an ideal starting point for excursions - to the nearby city of Assisi, to Lake Trasimeno with its beautiful islands, and to important cities such as Arezzo, Siena or Spoleto. Rome and Florence, the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian Sea are all within a two-hour drive. The Etruscan walls, the narrow medieval streets and magnificent buildings characterize this city of 180.000 inhabitants which has a centuries-old university tradition. The atmosphere and life in Perugia is that of a small metropolis that attracts foreign and Italian students. Perugia is still very much a liveable city - it’s not too small and, at the same time, not too big but big enough to have an impressive nightlife and a variety of events that attract tourists to it: ‘Eurochocolate’ and Umbria Jazz being one of the major events of the year attracting jazz lovers from all over the world.
