Main School General Information The General English Centre, which takes students aged 16 and above, is based in the heart of the town, at Rodney Lodge. There are normally 60 to 100 students learning English at inlingua Cheltenham at any one time, coming from all over the world. However, in the summer the number increases to 160 students.

The LSP 20 is ideal when you want to learn at a slower pace but at the same time gives the flexibility of leaving the afternoons available for your own programme or time to relax at the school using the internet, reading, studying or watching TV. Please note: It is very difficult to teach complete beginners in a class situation, therefore we offer one to one classes for the first 3/4 weeks before transferring you into an elementary class.

inlingua Cheltenham has a long tradition of helping students achieve the necessary language level to gain entry to undergraduate or postgraduate courses at university. We refer to the Academic paper, as required by Higher Education institutions in the UK, when teaching our IELTS preparation courses.
inlingua Cheltenham has 10 years experience of dealing with young adults who are required to achieve an IELTS or Cambridge language level before entering an English public school for GCSE or A Level. We recommend that if you require this option, that you choose the LSP30 programme as described on page 4. We can also help in the academic preparation fo r the e ntr anc e te s t. Many o f o ur language teachers are qualified to teach academic subjects and content, necessary for the entrance test which our major Public Schools require.

Choosing the IELTS preparation option will provide you with a course designed exclusively to get the IELTS grade that you need. inlingua Cheltenham works closely with a number of universities in the UK and can give advice and assistance if you wish to join an undergraduate or postgraduate course in the UK.

Tailor Made Group Courses
Over the last few years inlingua Cheltenham has seen a significant increase in year round group courses specially Tailor Made for the school, college, university or company. The reasons why this has happened is many fold. One of the reasons is that Cheltenham, being in the Heart of England, is a wonderful location for half day and full day excursions with so many towns, cities and places of interest within an hour of the school. A second reason is that we are a relatively large school with 28 classrooms and an equally large host family network of over 500 beds. If you are interested in organising year round groups with us, we are happy to arrange courses to suit your personal requirements. Courses are available for ages from 11 to 65 and for any group size. Children under sixteen will be taught in closed group classes as we are a 16 plus language school. inlingua Cheltenham is a ‘one stop school’ in the sense that we can, if you require, arrange
everything for you on arrival in the country such as, transfers, tuition, accommodation, local transportation, excursions, activities, insurance etc. Alternatively, if you wish, we can offer just a basic package of tuition, transfers and accommodation and leave the rest for you to arrange. We are very flexible and versatile and can work with you to give you the best options for your group. The Tailor Made courses can be designed for any length of time; five days, one week, ten days, two weeks etc. The choice is yours! All programmes are individually priced and unique for that group. Your course can be on a theme, topic or whatever you wish. We are happy to arrange courses to suit your personal requirements. Below are some of the courses we have done during the last year. Who is TKT for?
What does TKT involve?
TKT gives teachers a strong foundation in the core areas of teaching knowledge needed in the English language teaching classroom. It is ideal for all teachers, whatever their background and teaching experience, and is also suitable for people who would like to teach English but do not yet have a teaching position. There are no formal entry requirements. However, anyone wishing to take TKT is strongly advised to have at least an intermediate level of English Level B1 of the Council of Europe's Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) — e.g. PET, IELTS band score of 4.
Most teachers are likely to follow a preparation course before taking the test but you can also prepare yourself through your own reading and study, if you prefer. TKT has three core modules. These can be taken together in one e x a m s e s s i o n o r s e p a rately, in any order, over three sessions. Each module consists of a test of 80 objective questions, lasting 80 minutes, which require you to select the correct answer and mark this on a computerised answer sheet.

The Trinity Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CertTESOL) is a TESOL or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate designed for those with little or no experience of teaching English. It equips candidates with the basic skills and knowledge needed to take up a first post as an EFL teacher. It gives an introduction to the theory and practice of contemporary English teaching and an insight into the challenges facing the learner and the role of the teacher. The Cert TESOL is accredited in England by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority at Level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework. It is accepted by the British Council as an initial TESOL or TEFL qualification for teachers in its accredited teaching organisations in the UK and in its own teaching operations overseas. Credits are also awarded towards degree programmes offered by the Open University in the UK. This course is available for non-native Teachers of English as long as they have an IELTS level of 7.0 or equivalent and pass the interview conducted by the school’s validated Trinity College Trainer.

Assessment Assessment procedures: Assessment for the CertTESOL can be provided only at those organisations whose courses are currently validated by Trinity. Trainees are given clear guidance at the start of every course as to how their w r i t t e n a n d p r a c t i c a l wo r k i s b e assessed. All Trinity validated courses are visited at the end of the course by an independent moderator appointed and trained by Trinity.The moderator talks to all trainees in groups and then individually. Independent assessment: From October 2003, all trainees have been interviewed by the moderator for a period of fifteen minutes to discuss their work for the Materials Assignment (Unit 4). The moderator assesses them as Pass or Refer on this Unit. Trainees must prepare carefully for the interview.
Moderation of other written work: Moderators read a representative sample of all written work produced by trainees, including journals for teaching practice, guided observation, unknown language and the learner. Validated by Trinity College London, this is an internationally recognised qualification that allows teachers to work anywhere in the world. It is the essential qualification for Native Speakers who wish to teach English as a Foreign Language or for Overseas Teachers of English. Minimum age: 18. This intensive course is continually assessed and in the final week students sit a written exam in language awareness and phonology and take par t in a moderation interview

Teaching Business English
Further Certificate for Teachers of Business English
(FCTBE)
(London Chamber of Commerce and Industry – LCCI) The FCTBE is available as a joint course with the certificate in TESOL over six weeks at a discounted fee. Alternatively you can take the one week course on its own. This course is available for native or overseas Teachers of English. In response to the increase in demand for Business English teachers, we offer a one-week intensive programme. To gain a formal qualification, the course concludes with a written exam paper accredited by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Examination Board. Most course participants have, as a minimum, an initial English teaching qualification (such as the Certificate in CertTESOL or CELTA) or a similar qualification from their own country.

International Foundation Course
Our unique International Foundation Course is based on the ABE Business Management certificate programme. It is a 24 or 36 week course and consists of the following topics plus IELTS preparation. To gain entr y to the university of your choice you need to successfully pass each of the subject areas below and gain an IELTS 6.0. The Business Management programme incorporates the latest developments in the subject area. Although all of the units have been revised, many retain a similar title. How to apply Please send in a Curriculum Vitae and a Letter of Motivation (1 page) stating what you are looking for and why you are interested in this work. You can take the work alone or combine it with a language programme. Students with a low level of English language e.g. Elementary or Pre-Intermediate may wish to improve their language first. Your understanding of English will affect the type of work a company may offer you, and reduces the choice of companies available for your WEP.
Where can you do your WEP Placements can be anywhere in the UK . We can arrange Host family accommodation for students during their placements.
Please note Work experience placements are unpaid. We can arrange paid work placements only in the Hotel and Catering Service industry, mentioned below.

EU Training Programmes inlingua Cheltenham has experience in various EU programmes, the main ones being Leonardo da Vinci and Comenius. These courses are designed for the individual client and are offered as a complete package with accommodation, travel and transfer. Placements can be for any length of time and anywhere in the UK or Ireland. Funding is available in all EU countries and EEA areas as well as many former Eastern European countries. Please ask the EU office in your own countr y which programmes carr y funding and the percentage of fees you are eligible for.
Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci is specifically designed for students or trainees who wish to be involved in mobility, trans-national qualifications, training and documentation programmes. inlingua Cheltenham offers work experience placements, training programmes and documentation, and therefore are ideal partners for funded projects. Prospective students need to provide an up-to-date CV plus a letter of motivation.
Comenius COMENIUS focuses on education, primarily supporting school projects for the training of school education staff and educational networks. inlingua Cheltenham offers specialised in-ser vice training programmes for European teachers and trainers of English and other subjects.

Social Programme
inlingua Cheltenham’s Main School centre offers a full social programme to all students throughout the year. All activities and excursions are organised and led by inlingua Cheltenham staff. In summer, there are 4-5 afternoon and evening activities per week. In winter, there are 2-3 evening activities per week. A full day excursion is run every Saturday, all year round. The Social Programme is run on a pay-as-you-go basis. Students sign up and pay for their participation at Reception. In July and August, students can join our English Extra Summer Programme to enjoy a language and leisure package with 3 afternoon and 3 evening activities, plus a full day excursion every week included in the price.

Accommodation We understand that your accommodation is one of the most important aspects of your stay. It’s no good having a great school if you are not happy to go home in the evening! We have a dedicated Accommodation Officer who is also a qualified Welfare Officer available to help students with any issues relating to their accommodation.
Homestay The best way to take advantage of your stay in England is by living with an English family. This option will really immerse you in English culture and enhance your Social English.
Standard Host families are ideal for group course students. Accommodation is in a single room and with a desk for studying. You will share the rest of the house as a member of the family.
Executive Host families are generally professional people themselves, specially selected for our Executive clients. Executive Homestay is suitable for company clients on one to one and mini group courses. Many of our host families are located within walking distance of the centre. The furthest distance is approximately 20 minutes by bus. Accommodation oered is half board on weekdays and full board at weekends.
Hotels For those clients who prefer to stay in a hotel, Cheltenham offers a wide selection of high class hotel accommodation. The school have negotiated preferential rates for inlingua clients. We will be happy to book the hotel best suited to your needs.
Self-catering This type of accommodation should be requested at the time of application. We cannot always guarantee availability, but we will do our best to find an apartment for you and your family if they are accompanying you on your visit.
Residency inlingua Cheltenham also offers a number of residential serviced or self catering accommodation in the centre of Cheltenham. With this added source of accommodation we can accommodate individuals and groups throughout the year for any of our programmes.

BY BUS: National Express coaches arrive in the centre of Cheltenham, five minutes walk from the school. Coaches run from all major airports. There is an excellent direct bus from London Heathrow, which takes approximately 2 hours. National Express bus tickets can be booked on www.nationalexpress.com or can be organised by inlingua Cheltenham (see Brochures + Prices) BY TRAIN: Cheltenham Spa train station is within walking distance of the town and is about 25 minutes from the school. There are regular buses to the town centre and a taxi rank. Train tickets can be bought online at www.nationalrail.co.uk

BY CAR: We can arrange taxis for you from anywhere in the UK. If you are driving yourself, you can approach Cheltenham from the M5 motorway or the A40. Follow the signs for the town centre (see map below for our location). Car Parking: Because of our location in the town centre, parking space next to the main school building is limited. However there are various local parking facilities nearby.
