Advanced Diploma SPINs The career-oriented English classes outlined below take place during the SPINs. Please note that availability may vary. Key Concepts of Fashion and Design In this module, students look at the key concepts and terminology of the fashion industry. Students study fashion classifications, garment detail and construction, sources of fashion information and the modern history of fashion. The importance of personalities, politics, resorts, social events, art and theater are also considered in the development of current trends. History of Fashion This course develops students’ knowledge of the history of fashion and its impact on popular culture. Students will also study the fashion
and designers of the 20th century and compare those styles to contemporary designs. Apparel Construction Students’ deepen their awareness of the garment construction through a mixture of study and research work. The course also increases understanding of fabrics and their uses as well as providing knowledge of how to balance personal needs and economic considerations during construction. Merchandising Here, students will explore the relationship between fashion and business. This module helps students understand how social and economic factors affect the fashion industry. It deepens students’ awareness of commercial fashion by discussing and researching case studies and business models. Fashion Icons You will study the history of clothing and fashion in the 20th century. Students will observe the evolution of style for both men and women from a social, cultural and historical perspective. Fashion Portfolio This hands-on course covers Fashion Drawing and Photography for the Fashion Industry. Alongside the

practical application of skills gained, you’ll hone your skills by presenting your work in a professional manner. You will also create a portfolio for the final project. Internship/Volunteership An internship or volunteership in your chosen industry is included in the program. The placement, which takes place during your last term, can be part or full time while the duration varies per destination and company. Examples: Fashion Designers, Fashion Showrooms.
