“Studying with EF gave me the opportunity to live in a completely different country, improve my English and, most importantly, get accepted to my dream university, Cornell.

Our student success stories University Preparation Abroad guarantees you placement at one of over 150 partner universities around the world. Successful EF University Preparation Abroad graduates have been accepted to world-renowned universities – including Cambridge, Imperial College and Berkeley.

The development of my English, alongside being accepted to an Ivy League college, has been my most important achievement. As well as the academic benefits, I really enjoyed being part of EF Boston’s large and friendly community of staff and students from all over the world. We shared so many special moments: We became like a big family. I'm sure these strong bonds with EF students from different cultures will help me make positive social changes as I pursue a career in public policy. Diana Malik from Kazakhstan EF University Foundation Program at EF Boston Enrolled at Cornell University

"My time at EF Oxford equipped me with the required language skills for admission to one of the UK’s leading universities, the University of Exeter, where I now study medical sciences. The program covered essential university topics that I had not learned during my time at secondary school: It taught me how to reference correctly as well as how to write papers such as essays and personal statements for university, which is crucial to the application process. The staff and students at EF were so friendly and always willing to help me with my studies and excursions around this beautiful city. Oxford has a fantastic academic reputation and is a great place to get to know British culture. I was able to try new food, visit historic places and go shopping with new friends from all over the world." School system & partner institutions in the USA

EF continues to build strong relationships with universities in the UK in order to offer our students guaranteed placement at some of the world’s most respected institutions.

We’ve helped place students in some of the world’s most respected institutions of higher learning, including some of the top universities in the United States.

School system of the United Kingdom The United Kingdom’s school system is considered the gold standard in education and has been influential in establishing educational benchmarks around the world. Education in the UK begins at age five where students begin learning subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. In Grade 10 and Grade 11, students prepare for their General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE’s), an academic qualification awarded in up to 10 subjects. After taking GCSE’s, students can choose to enter the workforce, pursue training at a vocational college, or continue studying for two additional years for university entrance exams, called the Advanced Level General Certificate of Education, commonly referred to as “A-levels”. University study Undergraduate students in the UK typically pursue a bachelor’s degree which specialises in one subject for three years. Entrance requirements for international students include English proficiency (with a minimum IELTS level 6.0) and an additional year of secondary school, known as a University Foundation Program, which is equivalent to Grade 13. A traditional master’s degree is in either the Arts (MA), Sciences (MSc) or in Business Administration (MBA), which typically lasts one year and require both exams and a thesis to graduate. Some specialized careers require the completion of a doctoral program or PhD, which may include four to five years of advanced study and research, plus a formal dissertation. For most of these programs, international students are required to have a recognized undergraduate degree and an English level of at least IELTS level 6.5. MBA programs normally require at least two years of work experience. Trusted partners in education We have helped students progress to university in the UK for more than 45 years by developing relationships with many prestigious universities. Our partner institutions place their trust in our high quality programs and give EF University Preparation Abroad students either guaranteed admission or preferred consideration. EF’s top partners in the United Kingdom include Durham University, Loughborough University, University of Exeter, the University of York and Hult International Business School. Grades 9-12 (ages 15 to 18) are attended at a high school. Successful college studies Students wishing to pursue higher education can choose to undertake a two-year Associate’s degree at a community college or a four-year bachelor’s degree at a university. Community colleges provide programs for high school graduates and are often used as a springboard to a four-year university degree. Undergraduate bachelor’s degrees in the United States are typically designed to be completed in four years of full-time study. International students must have an English level of at least TOEFL 550 PBT/ 213 CBT/ 81 IBT to be considered for entrance to university. A master’s degree program lasts 18-months to two years; accelerated MBA programs last one year; and doctorates need additional study.
