A new research project, LAIBRE, looks to leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to remove any bias from the recruitment process helping to attract more diverse talent.

The project aims to eliminate bias across different Human Resources workflows with the help of advanced Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques. This project is expected to revolutionise the hiring process by providing equal opportunities for candidates with diverse backgrounds.

FREE NOW partners with NovaUCD's Zipp Mobility

MULTI-MOBILITY app FREE NOW and Zipp Mobility (Zipp), an Irish micro-mobility operator headquartered at NovaUCD, have announced that they are joining forces with aims to integrate Zipp’s eScooters and eBikes on the FREE NOW app this year.

This partnership will enable passengers to book Zipp’s micro-mobility transport options via the FREE NOW app when Zipp rolls out its services across Ireland in 2022.

The announcement comes off the back of the recently announced Road Traffic & Roads Bill 2021 which will legalise eScooter use in public places as public demand grows for flexible and sustainable transport options. Recent research conducted by FREE NOW shows that 40% of its passengers plan to use eScooters like Zipp’s for everyday transport when they are made widely available in Irish cities this year, and three quarters think that Ireland needs more sustainable, electric transport options in line with other European countries.

Zipp has already launched in the UK and mainland Europe and plans to launch both eBikes and eScooters across Ireland in 2022 along with beginning operations in Portugal and Spain.

The research will be conducted by innovator and data expert, Kolawole Adebayo, winner of the Enterprise Ireland’s CareerFitPlus Marie-Curie Fellowship.

Kolawole said, “I am extremely excited about this pathbreaking project. Hiring bias occurs when candidates feel excluded or are considered positively or negatively because of certain characterizations which have nothing to do with their ability. "LAIBRE seeks to overcome this by implementing AI models that can understand the content of HR documents to remove content that can lead to unconscious bias and discrimination."
