Dress appropriately

Allschools,collegesandchildcareprovidersaresubjecttoa dutyundersection26oftheCounter-TerrorismandSecurity Act2015tohave‘dueregardtotheneedtopreventpeoplefrom beingdrawnintoterrorism’.Thisduty,knownasthePrevent duty,shouldbeseenaspartofschools’,colleges’and childcareproviders’widersafeguardingobligations.

PreventdealswithallkindsofterroristthreatstotheUK.This includessafeguardingchildren,youngpeopleandadult learnersfromextremistideologiesandradicalisation.

TheDataProtectionAct2018istheUK’simplementationofthe GeneralDataProtectionRegulation(GDPR).Itregulateshow andwheninformationrelatingtoindividualsmaybeobtained, usedanddisclosed.

Schoolsholdavastarrayofpersonaldataonchildren,parents andcarers,staffandgovernors,whichmeanstheremustbe appropriatesafeguardsandproceduresinplacetoensureitis managedeffectivelyandsecurely.Pleaseensurewhenon assignmentthatyoufamiliariseyourselfwiththeschool’sdata protectionpolicy,everyschoolwillbedifferent,donotassume whatwaspermittedinoneschoolwillbepermittedina differentschool.AllschoolswillhaveaDataProtectionOfficer, makesureyouknowwhotheyareorhowtheycanbe contacted.
