I am a compassionate and enthusiastic person. My first story was inspired by my father and started when I was a High school student. He is an open minded, responsible and hard-working person. I was going to apply to university in Taiwan, and I was planning to choose interior architecture design to be my major, but my dad thought there was no market in Taiwan so he wanted me to be an IT person, so I went to university with a computer science degree. The second year of my university, I noticed I was still interested in interior design and I always spent time looking at lots of architectures and details . In addition, I dreamed of renovating house interiors, so I started to learn about it myself. My second story started after I graduated from university, and moved to study abroad in Canada to study interior design. I chose the program with one year coop to gain valuable experience in interior design. During my first year in ITD Canada, I learned and acquired abundant knowledge related to building material, interior detail, BC building code, and technical skills. I was enjoying myself, learning new skills, and pursuing my dream as an interior designer in college. I am excited about my next story, which can help me spreading my interior design vision to the world.

The Challenge I was hired to turn a big warehouse into a pub, this design idea is inspired by a movie from Hong Kong. My client wanted to incorporate Chinese elements with Hong Kong style. In the interior, there are lots of columns that I can’t move, in order to not changing the structure, I have to do a good way to play with them.
The Work I played with the ceiling to separate some areas and also separate the bar and the kitchen. In this pub they also serve food, so I put an open kitchen with a bar. I designed a lot of bar tables to offer more capacity. Also, I designed two areas with two different kinds of Chinese Lanterns, compared to the main high ceiling dining area, I decided to give those areas a different ambiance. Lastly, I used neon Lights on Chinese characters to incorporate elements of Hong Kong style.
Different ceiling height separate different areas, different oriental lantern light gives different ambiance, neon light on Chinese characters creates the impression of night-time in Asian street market. Marble flooring reflects the light in the main dining area bright up space also relieve the impression of the night market value.
Different spaces separated by the entrance. Offer two and four seats to customers and put two pool tables to fun up the pub, but used the oriental fan lighting to have the accent of oriental style.
Open a hole from the entrance of the men's restroom to give a different view of the pub. Use the different height of the ceiling to make the pub feel bigger. Feature lighting around the hole to blur people's vision.
The bar between two columns and low down the ceiling at the bar. Use the lantern light to bright up the seat in front of the bar. Wall sconce to decorate the space. Chinese style door to go to the side entrance and women's restroom.

Between Traditional and Modern

This house design was inspired by a Chinese History house, called a “Sanheyuan,” or “Three Section House”. In Taiwan, this is a historically popular house style because it allows many different generations in a family to live together.
The Challenge This client is a couple from Taiwan, who bought a small property in Toronto that they wanted to rebuild. When I first spoke to them, I noticed they are really traditional. They are in their 30s and they really like spending time at home. They wanted to renovate their current home because it was dark, so the most important update was to open the space and make it brighter.
The Work I designed the Three Section House as a Taiwanese traditional house for them. I used a structure called the Bucket Arch in my design, but I made it simple and combined some LED lighting instead of Chinese pendant lighting. The house is built around the courtyard and I used a glass wall and door on both sides so that sunlight can come in easily.
Traditional roof tile is the most iconic to know about Chinese traditional from exterior.
Pocket Door which I designed which can be opened and have air convection in the interior.
Wood Dong-Gung system is inspired by Chinese traditional house structure, I made the structure simple and combined some LED lighting.
Court yard is the central of the Three Section House, the house is built around it. Exterior wall used Stone tile material. Instead of using white exterior wall, I choose Stone tile to make the house more interesting
- Left elevation includes open area, bedroom, walk-in closet and bathroom - Those three areas are an open space which is no door between each area
- Back elevation is a view for the whole house - The courtyard in the middle where is the sun coming from
This is the view looking at the dining area and kitchen, use the dougong system on the ceiling and traditional furniture. Recessed lighting gives the space a little bit modern. Close the glass door still can feel some privacy even though no door between each area.
The view looks at the bedroom with the dougong system ceiling, simple but still gives a traditional feeling. The whole space doesn’t have doors between each area which can make the space bigger.
The abidance of this three section house, it combines traditional and morden house style with natural. It looks like a open house but the three section separated different areas in this space. Although it’s a small space but still have the privacy and common area for this family.

The Challenge In an existing, large space in Vancouver, the client wants to create an open working space, with some conference rooms. For open-concept working spaces, there are a few challenges. Employees don’t have their own offices or even desks, so all areas need to have plugs and pedestal storage for employees. Additionally, open offices are typically loud, so finding a solution to noise problem was very important.
The Work I started to think from their office culture, I found they have a motto “everyone belongs anywhere,” so in their office they also have a quote “works in anywhere .“ According to their culture, I designed to make the atmosphere feel like home. I designed the whole office around the kitchen because, in the office, the kitchen is the only place employees can gather together, the kitchen is the most important area in this office. On the ceiling, I used wood texture ceilling tile to solve the noise problems

Kitchen space design seating table and bar table for group and individual workers because of their culture "works anywhere" and "works like home" so employees even can work in the kitchen and dining area. Black panel on the ceiling to clam this area down.
From the dining area face to the working station area. Use the black steel frame with windows to separate the two spaces but use the window not to make space feel narrow. At the end of this space is solo seating area and with the orange paint to have the accent in the space.
