Everybody’s Talking!
Stolen goods: For a car thief in Englewood, Colorado (US) stealing “Wildman Phil” Rakoci’s SUV netted him more than he bargained for: several reptiles, including a 13-foot python, a rattlesnake, five non-poisonous snakes, a tarantula and some scorpions. "Wildman Phil" earns his living with a traveling show that educates people about the critters. When he left his vehicle running outside a department store to keep the reptiles warm, he came back to find it stolen. Lucky for him and his passengers, the vehicle and its weird cargo were found unharmed the next day. Rakoci reports that his pets were happy to see him. Smart bird: Police officers in the Sagamihara district of Yokohama, Japan, were astounded when a budgie started talking and told them its home address. Officials say the bird escaped from its home and flew into a downtown hotel, landing on the shoulder of a guest. The hotel called police, who came and got the bird. The budgie had been quiet and while police were trying to figure out what to do with it, the bird started to repeatedly recite its address. Owner Fumie Takahashi had taught the bird this information and was thrilled when the budgie was returned to her. Obstacle course: There is an annual crazy competition in Germany called the Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run. The course is 11.16 miles and is located near the town of Weeze on a former British Royal Air Force Base. Obstacles on the course are numerous and include mud baths, hay bales and storage bunkers. Competitors are mostly men, but women do sign up, and they can range in age from 18 to 70+. Nearly 9,000 people try their hardest to come out the winner. However, it’s not all serious business. Some runners will dress up in crazy costumes, injecting some light-hearted fun into the tough race.
"Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them" - Shakespeare, Twelfth Night "I believe that every right implies a responsibility; every opportunity an obligation; every possession, a duty." - John D. Rockefeller, Jr.

"News To Be Enjoyed Over Coffee"
Dancing convicts: Prison inmates in a high-security jail in Cebu in the Philippines like to dance away their sentences. A huge group of them learned the special steps to Michael Jackson’s hit, "Thriller," in the courtyard of the prison. The idea was the brainchild of Byron F. Garcia, who thought it would not only be fun, but good exercise, as well. He posted a video on YouTube of 1,500 red-clad inmates dancing in unison and it went viral. Since then, the inmates have added other songs to their repertoire, including a more recent performance of the horse-riding dance that a rapper named Psy presented to the world. Psy is a South Korea musician.

Old spice: The pepper that we sprinkle on our food comes from the peppercorn plant, which has been cultivated in south Asia for centuries. The peppercorns are harvested, dried and ground. Eight-armed hunter: Living in coral reefs in the Pacific Ocean, such as on the coastlines of Australia and Japan, is the blue-ringed octopus. Although small, its deadly saliva instantly paralyzes its prey, which includes crabs and shrimp. Prolific writer: English author Agatha Christie may be famous for her many crime novels, but she also wrote stage plays. Examples of these works include "The Mousetrap" in 1952 and "Witness for the Prosecution" in 1953. Fenced out: Australia has a fence that is 5,600 kilometers (3,488 miles) long. Known as the Dingo Fence or the Dog Fence, it was originally built in the late 1800s to keep dingoes and other predators from preying on sheep. Collective names: Groups of different animals and insects go by different names. Ants can be known as an army or a colony. Then there is a troop of baboons and a pack of coyotes. If a bunch of flamingoes are hanging around together, they are called a stand.

Run a mile from the slow to smile. Mother: "Are you taking your little sister's candy?" Daughter: "No, Mommy, I'm helping her to share." If you feel that life is not presenting you with enough challenges, try mending a broken umbrella. Character is much easier kept than recovered.
