Military greatness has always been where a general has beaten the odds. Alexander the Great defeated armies many times larger lead by the Persians. In the Civil War in many ways the odds were seen in their favor. The Confederates had to merely resist, and had a vast territory to retreat into. These individuals are supposedly great for losing!
