ADRIATIC AQUARIUM PARK | TRIESTE DS 11 | Tutors: Andrew Peckham & Dusan Decermic Starting with a series of tectonic forms surrounding the Breakwater, the Adriatic Aquarium Park played with interfaces between the sea and built structures varied from Floating Amphitheatre, gridded Diving School sitting above water, and concrete drum creating a hole in the sea. The Undersea Aquarium recreated the underwater atmosphere and engaged viewing experiences with the natural environment.

Villa Opicina Villa Opicina is a linear settlement arranged along the Via Nazionale and the Strada per Vienna. Restaurants and other shops occupy the frontage to this street, whilst the typology beyond the main arteries is almost random in nature, both dense and sparse in certain localities. The landscape is relatively flat in nature, sitting atop of the Karst environment.
Strada Nuova per Opicina This major road is the most direct route back to Trieste. The road winds back down along the Karst landscape back towards the city, affording views south-west to the city and the sea. There are no structures along either side of this route down, the artery having been cut into the landscape. Pedestrian access along this route is restricted and dangerous.
Trieste | Italy site context
11
Linea del Tram The disused tram line is situated bellow the Stada Nuova per Opicina, following a similar path through the landscape but much more sheltered, and offering limited views out. The Linea del Tram follows the start of the Via Commerciale. Due to the steep nature of the route few houses occupy this route.
Via Commerciale Further down the Via Commericale the urban fabric of Trieste begins to emerge. Although the landscape is still steep, the landscape has not hindered the development of two and three story residential structures along both sides of the route. This development prevents views either side of the Via Commerciale.

Hide & Seek Gallery
HIDE & SEEK GALLERY | KEW GARDENS DS 17 | Tutors: Mike Tonkin, Anna Liu & Jonathan Schofield Inspired by the children’s game, the whole point of the concept is hiding and finding. I explored a way of hiding information which draw the visitors’ desire to discover the truth. Kew Gardens has three existing ways of plant representation methods: paintings, seeds and living plants. However, none of the them reveal the whole story of plant. The gallery houses the three ways of representations in the same space. By contrasting the viewing experiences of each, visitors gain the awareness of misleading illusions and desire to discover the growing processes of plants. The unique gallery space was created from the idea of opening up the walls of ordinary painting gallery. By cutting and folding layers of planes, a set of mysterious and mazed spaces which is the ideal place to hide the growing processes of plants. Hourglass-shaped planters and seed collectors are placed behind the exhibition walls awaiting visitors’ discovery.
